MVP in widescreen!

Thanks Kraw. It worked. I really appreciate this.

Here is my review. The picture definitely looks sharper at 1600 x 1200 than with the 1280 x 1024. However I did notice a slight teeny bit of stutter (very slight) on the ball when being thrown across the diamond & even a bit on a throw from second to first. It was only a slight stutter though & in regular gameplay probably almost unnoticable.

I use a Nvidia GEForce 6800 ultra video card with all my video settings maxed. 8X anti aliasing & 16x Anistropic filtering. Plus, all my video game settings are maxed out too.

Hence I feel it looks decent enough in 1280 x 1024 where the ball movement on throws is literally smooth as silk that I am personally feeling that I am not going to up it to 1600 x 1200. This is strictly a personal preference & since it looks so good at the lesser resolution anyway, I feel the compromise of even the teeny slight stutter is (for me personally) not worth the extra resolution increase.

With that said, this discovery is really cool & I thank you Kraw for telling me how to do it. If I personally want to play in 1600 x 1200 in the future that option will be there now that you helped me.

You must have hex edited it wrong. Did you check the widescreengaming forum tutorial?

hexlf5.th.jpg

In your hex editor search/find the value - 8002 0000 E001. If it doesn't support spaces then just do it without the spaces. Once it finds it, check to see if there is another one just like it. There should be two almost right after each other like I highlighted in the pic. Each resolution is in the file twice, one after the other. One is for the actual displaying of the resolution, the other is for what is displayed at the video options screen.

640x480 - 8002 0000 E001

800x600 - 2003 0000 5802

1024*768 - 0004 0000 0003

1280*1024 - 0005 0000 0004 In the pic, it shows 0005 0000 0003 because this is the resolution I changed to 1280x768.

You can change any of the resolutions you want. I would suggest changing one that you don't play with that way if you mess up, you can go back to standard.

You don't overwrite any files. Its in the mvp2005.exe. You have to hex edit the file, then save it. If your monitor supports only a 1024x768 max resolution(thats a pretty old monitor), then you don't want to use anything bigger than that, otherwise you can break it. I still don't know why you would want a widescreen resolution with a standard 4:3 monitor. The game only stretches the screen and players look short and chubby. There is no benefit. You will be wasting space at the top and bottom of the screen where the black bars end up once you get widescreen working.

You can try

1024x640 - 0004 0000 8002

1024x600 - 0004 0000 5802

848x480 - 5003 0000 E001

960x640 - C003 0000 8002

I edited my resolution to my native 37" LCD HDTV 16x9, which is 1366x768 at 60Hz and it worked like a charm. Before, I had to run at 1024x768 and while it looked very good, now it looks tighter and more real estate horizontally too. It is really smoother looking on pans and the stadiums just feel larger.

It is very similar to watching a ESPN HD broadcast now!

There appears to be a little stretching at 1360x768 on my 42" HDTV but it doesnt matter at all. It looks great!

With everything so much bigger now, I really prefer a little bit of a pulled back fielding view, because you can see much more of the field and stadium atmosphere. Makes for a great MVP experience.

I just order a 22" ws monitor this one here. it looks like the default res will be 1680 x 1050. Does anyone have an edited exe from the 07 mod using that resolution they can send me?

I looked at that guide, but figured it would be easier if someone already had an edited one since I dont really understand hex stuff :p thanks. please pm me if you can help.

Kraw,

If the Hex data embeded within the .exe can be edited would it be possibly to change the coding for jersey's, adding or deleting the names on the back of the jersey's? Of course finding where that data is locating is another story.

Thanks,

Tx

Just got my new monitor today and I was able to get mvp running at 1680x1050 with the hex edit. It looked good, but I don't think I could get used to the stretched out effect.

I the tried running at 5:4 (with bars on the side), but for some reason, I can't get 1280x1024 to work. However, I was able to get 1360x1024 to work. Not sure why 1280x1024 won't work.

Anyway, I hexed mvp to support that res and it seems to be working ok. It's still not the correct 5:4 aspect ratio, but it's much better than 1680x1050 as far as reducing the stretching.
