Mvpmods Subscriptions

I agree with the 10 bucks a year. 10 bucks for a repeat customer likely gets you a roster update, uniform updates, minor league uni and logo updates, portrait updates, some cyberfaces, etc. $10 for up to date gameplay is well worth it, and with unlimited access to total conversion mods, audio files, and everything else ... that's a bargain.

If a person just wanted a one year subscription, they could download a whole lot of quality stuff in that year ... much more than $10 worth, IMO.

I would seriously look at a one year membership, unlimited access. I would imagine most of us regulars, and a quite a few new members would re-up every year, and relieve the cost to the admin.

I think this is a grand idea, but when is the apology thread for theSpungo going to be erected? Soon?

He doesn't deserve it. He charges for his mods. I'm not charging for my mods. Trues isn't charging for his mods. No one is charging for mods. You are being asked to subscribe in order to have unlimited ability to download mods. You can download without subscrption.

Bad idea since the site is then obligated to provide those paid members a roster update, uniform updates, cyberface updates, and the other mods that you have listed every year. People who work on these mods do so on their spare time (or so I assume) and it would just foolish to ask them to provide an update each year. And if they just don't feel like providing that update, it's only going to come back and bite Trues and this site in the ***.

then why was thread bad mouthing him allowed?

I could have sworn he had a chance to explain himself in that thread, oh wait, that was AddisonClark, I'm sorry.

Anyway, this isn't the thread for any of that so let's just move on.

That's certainly a possibility. But, in the same vein, there's always new stuff to download, as well as, old stuff such as total conversion mods for people to try for the first time. I would imagine that "someone" will always make a roster update for themselves, and be willing to share with others. I would not expect someone to make a mod that they would not enjoy making. This stuff, should be fun ... not work.

My basis for my comments is that I was unaware (until recently) that Trues was funding the site out of his own pocket when the donation goals are not met. That bothers me.

you got that right, for example in my country (Venezuela) we have a limited use of Dollars per month with the credit card...so...is a little frustrating cause i love the game but can´t download anything from now on....good luck to all, hope this page can carry on for many years...

If there is still a possibility of 2 DL's day without a subscription, then how is it you can't download "anything"?

I really don't think that $5 or $10 is such a big deal considering what there is to offer and I'm not going to pretend to understand why guys would want their mods pulled from the site because of it, nor am I going to pretend to understand why there was a split to begin with.

This is a video game.

No one is curing cancer here.

$150/month sounds a bit steep for this website in my opinion.

I know I mentioned to Trues in a PM, but thought I would post here in case he didn't get it for some reason (Got an error when I sent).

Anyways, how about moving to a web host that gives unlimited storage space and bandwidth, such as FatCow.com? Granted it's not eat all you want, but they say it should be enough to satisfy a personal or small/medium size business at $58/year. Probably more a pain than what it's worth though. (7zip'ing the files would help a bit as mentioned earlier)

Not sure about the extent they can provide, but what about Yola?

how do i just donate money? because i have some extra money in my budget and i figure that that not buying a baseball game for four years and still getting a load of enjoyment out of mvp 2005 is worth more than 10 dollars to me.

You can make your donation to the paypal account for this website.

Sorry it had to come to this guys, hope everything works out. I only log in once every two weeks or so, and no longer have the game or reason to download anything, but still loved all you guys have done, so good luck. MVP was the only good baseball game ever made, and I would really wish to get it back sometime soon. I miss you guys though, even some of you darn yanks fans!

Hey guys, appreciate the trouble you're in and sorry you're in it. This new scheme doesn't affect me much since I don't download a whole lot anyway. However--have you guys considered the possible legal issues with this move? I'm not in any way providing or attempting to provide any sort of legal advice or admonition here whatsoever, but it's probably something you should consider. Charging money for access to modifications to content to which you do not own the copyright--no matter how noble or necessary the reasons--can potentially get you into hot water if EA or its parent company (do they have one?) suddenly "stumbles across" this site. It's different than offering the content free--it's obviously necessary to put some payment requirement in place in order to keep this community alive, but beware of straying into those gray areas. Again, I don't have any vested interest in any of this.

I think you are misunderstanding what this is. The subscription fee is for the payment for the server costs each month that this website has. 100% of the money goes to that and only that.

Unfortunately this has come to pass here. Check out how many members we have here. As I write this there are 75,092 members and most of them contribute nothing to the running of the website.

But, this is your opinion and that's how it is.

Trues..... i could be wrong, but i think i heard that you said that the hosting of mvpmods is 1and1. i had that hosting service but non a dedicate server like you. Some days ago they increased the monthly bandwith for all packages to unlimited . you could downgrade your dedicated server to one of hosting package and you'll pay less than a dedicated server
