Player Ids Not Matching With Portraits

Hey all,

So I was looking into fixing up a couple of player photos, and I realized that the player ID does not link up with the number of the photo in neither of the modding tools.

I wanted to know if there was some sort of key I'm not looking at or an algorithm or something to pinpoint who is who in the portraits.iff file.

Any help would gladly be appreciated.

Thanks!

KC,

that portrait ID must be one of the best kept (annoying) secret.

But let me tell you that a long time ago I filed on .docx a player by player, ID by ID of my personal Roster - started by a 2K default one.

I dont know how much is changed from another rosters, but If you - or someone else - have any interest it's just give a shout.

Whoever does portraits, walk me through this:

What do I use to import portraits?

For what it's worth, I've been just creating DDS versions of player portraits today with the entire Astros organization as practice so when the official 2014 pressbox photos come out, I can do all the teams within a week.

Here is the process I use:

First of all i never once import any portraits using nbamodtool into the in game portrait.iff so forget that all together. Those ID's mean nothing. ID numbers need to be obtained using Ty's editor. Here are the steps.

1.) I first create my portrait using Photoshop. 256x256. For Joe Nathan I name the file nathan.dds for example.

2.) Now for size of the file. This step is crucial or the portrait will look terrible in the game. For this step I take a folder with nbamodtool and a COPY of the portrait IFF. For this example I will use Joe Nathan. Use Ty's editor to look up his ID number for the roster you are using. His number is 1729 for me.

3.) Open up the copy of your portrait iff. You need to import nathan.dds into any slot (doesn't matter which one) and export it back out as 1729.dds

4.) nathan.dds was 87,536 bytes in size and the resulting 1729.dds is 87,520 bytes. As I said this step is absolutely necessary.

5.) Now for installation. Create a folder called portrait and a folder within the portrait folder called 1x. All numbered dds files go in the 1x folder. For example portrait-->1x-->1729.dds. This allows for one or hundreds of portraits to be installed. After placing all completed files in the 1x folder take 7zip and create portrait.7z

6. Install Total Installer Thingy for 2K10. On first setup it asks where your MLB install directory is and so forth. Just follow the directions. Click the ... button and load portrait.7z. Then click the start button. All portraits should now be installed in the game.

I really hope this helps you. I really appreciate everything you do for this game. Thank you, and feel free to ask me any questions.

This worked. It was a bit of a long process but it worked. Thank you!

  • 11 months later...

I messed something up!! LOL Please help!!

I followed Raiderbball's instructions (to a T, I thought). When I opened the game, every single player I made the .dds. file for had no image. Just a picture of their cyberface. Any idea why? Or what I could have possibly done wrong?

If I can figure this out, the process of making the .dds files will be long (as previously stated) but it would save more time over all in just inserting and updating player pics after trades and signings.

Thanks for the tutorial, so far. LOL

Okay, okay... I'm losing something in the nbamodtool, I think. When insert the png into the tool, it is 87kb. When I extract the dds file, it's 67kb. I think that has something to do with why they don't even show a picture in the game, and revert to just their cyberface. Now, any ideas why an 87kb png file would turn into a 67kb dds file??

**Edit

Never mind... sorry. I wasn't saving the image in PhotoShop as a ddf; instead saving as a png. Duh! :-D
