Awesome, gonna add you guys later today.

And Sean, not ignoring you my man, I put your cell in my phone again (didn't even see your PM until the other day). The NCAA Tourney and with the kids being home on Spring Break is reeking havoc here in the Jay household.

Indiana plays today at 2:45 p.m. EST today. If we lose, I'm diving straight into baseball, if not, it'll be a week and a half at the most.

Can't wait to get my head on straight again. :)

For whoever hasn't add me, my psn is wrigleyville33. How is online this year? Is the connection any better? I don't have my ps3 with me at school right now, but in the summer I will pick up '13 and would love to play with y'all.

Get with the program, kid!

13 online > 12 online. Still a bit of lag, but it's better.

Mike, you and I were talking about ball physics the other night. Here is an excellent example of both the ball physics and realistic animations that set The Show apart from any other baseball game on the planet.

In the first video against Texas, I was down one run (one out) late in the game with Chris Young at third base. The ball was lofted somewhat in no man's land between second base and shallow center field. Realizing at that split second that Kinsler was more than likely going to make the play, and knowing Young has decent speed, I retreated back to third base to tag up.

My point is, here is where the realistic elements kick in:

  • Down one run late in the game
  • Chris Young has decent speed at third base
  • The ball is blooped to shallow right center field, where if Kinsler does make the catch, he is running away from the play
  • With The Show's extremely realistic animations (allowing timing to be a factor), I realized I may have a chance to score because I knew Kinsler's momentum running away from the play would give me a slight edge
  • Knowing the situation, I had to be aggressive on the base paths, as I was running out of innings

Second example (vs Seattle):

  • I had a runner on third, ball was scorched to the right side of the infield
  • In a split second (again) I immediately thought it was down the line for extra bases, so I took off for home plate
  • Completely different ball physics obviously, this one was a laser (the diversity in ball physics is phenomenal in this game)
  • As you can see, I was gunned down getting back to the bag on a great snag

As much as I loved MVP and the High Heat series, I didn't really realize how all the little details could make for a much more realistic baseball experience. Sony (along with a very diverse and excellent slider system) has been listening to the hardcore baseball gamers and improving this already great game into something better each year.

To me, it all starts with game play. The slider system gives you realistic game play if you take the time to tweak them to your playing style. The realistic animations, such as player momentum in the infield and outfield, taking angles to the ball, rounding the bags, etc., introduces a timing factor that brings a whole new element to baseball gaming. The ball physics get better and better each year, and I could go on.

All that being said, when about the only thing left on a wish list is to be able to sit in the stadium as a fan (True's idea) and watch your friends play, heckle them, hold up signs, etc., you know the game has gone in the right direction.

I would have added the "streak across the field" option, but I'd hate to bother Sony with having to slap a rating system on a family oriented game. :)
