The Make All Buttons on PS2 Controller Work Fine Fix

*Perhaps this should be a sticky*

If you use the PS2 Controller to play MVP Baseball on your PC you've probably noticed that the 1-4 buttons are not in their correct places.

1 is suppose to be on "[]" but now 1 is on "/"

2 is suppose to be on "X" but now 2 is on "O"

3 is suppose to be on "O" but now 3 is on "X"

4 is suppose to be on "/" but now 4 is on "[]"

Which messes up your pitches and Pick Off Bases, your Base Throwing, and some other stuff.

Well this fix will fix that problem and make the game respond to all buttons the way they were meant. You can change the config to your liking but don't change any of the ones that say Button 1-4. Buttons 5-12 are not a problem and are easily changeable.

Just copy and paste this into the controller.cfg in your My DocumentsMvp Baseball 2004 Folder

Now when you go to pitch the 4 Seam Fast Ball and you press "X" you'll throw the 4 Seam Fast Ball instead of some other pitch. Which was so confusing that you would take more time figuring out what button to press to throw the pitch you wanted than you took to play the game.

What is the best way or product to hook a PS2 controller to the USB port??? And does it come with drivers and everything?

I have an in-depth tutorial on three of the most used adapters that are available, hopefully Trues will have it up over the weekend.

I personally use the Soyo KiKy X-Series Game Pad Adapter, but have helped numerous people set up the Radio Shack Adapter.

Yes, all controllers either have drivers or work natively with windows. If you end up getting the radio shack adapter, many people have complained about the cd not working, here is a link to the drivers on their website.

Hope that helps.

Any word on how to get the controller to scroll the menus?

I use a 3rd party program. It's called JoyToKey, it's not perfect, but I've gotten used to it.

You just map the buttons to whatever. I have 'select' set to F10 for screenshots and the dpad to the mouse. Works pretty good.

I don't exactly know how to go in and get the originals. Is it all mapped out the same MVP directory/data/ etc.? And copy the models.big file?

I can't remeber which cd is which, but just search for models.big. I know you're a CS guy, but you should backup before you do any of the mods.

Makes it easier if you need to revert to a previous state.

I was using the Radio shack adapter for the PS2 controller and my problem was that I couldn't slide or dive the correct way. For example I would steal second and hold up and to the right on the right analog stick to slide head first and avoid the tag and the player would slide feet first and to the left, right into the tag. I didn't see anything in the set-up to change this so I just stopped playing on the pc because that is very annoying. Another thing was that my Start and Select buttons were reversed but not really a big deal. Again I couldn't find a way to set them correctly. Anyway I just bought the Logitech Dual Rumblepad 2 and it works great. I didn't even have to set it up, the game just recognized it and did it automatically.
