World Baseball Classic

Was bored last weekend whenever the playoffs weren't on.

2screen7ha.jpg

The roster base was Ultimate 3.13 B

Copied needed players into Class A slots

The USA uni is the awesome one done by bigbully for 2004 installed with MVP Studio 2005. There are actually two in his download.

About the only "work" I did was for the USA and Canada logos and I found graphics that weren't part of a flag on a few baseball sites.

As it is, I wouldn't be able to release it without permission from a few people and several logos and uniforms. I'm o.k. at logos, but uniforms have so far been beyond my grasp. There are pictures on the All Star Game Site with what the HR Derby guys wore at a press conference but I seriously doubt those would be used come March.

Hopefully this gets the right modders excited about the spring cause NCAA baseball isn't my thing.

Classic modders: All time World Cup ? Clemente, Oh, Gehrig, Carew, etc

Fixed, found nice higher res flag graphics on Yahoo reference, updated Venezuela too while I was at it.

I have a start on Japan and Mexico, but those teams will have players not signed to MLB contracts that will need to be created. Haven't decided the best way to try to use Japanese or Mexican league stats yet. I'm assuming players like Ichiro, the Matsui's, & Iguchi in MLB will be invited to play for Japan.

There are countries with less than half their players in UR 3.1x - Korea, Taiwan, Panama, the Netherlands, Australia, or South Africa.

And then there's Cuba ... just the national team? national team and a team of Cubans that play here? A team with some of each? all 3 teams? - Cuban national, Cuban defectors, best of each

I have no clue who would be on the Italian or Chinese teams.

And even though they're not in the Classic in March, it'd be cool for Vicente Padilla to pitch for Nicaragua and Orlando Cabrera & Edgar Renteria to lead a Columbian team. (We could figure out which one plays short and where the other one plays later.) Might be able to find some minor leaguers from those two countries or someone can create players with World Cup or Olympic qualifying experience.

Any other countries would be awesome too. I always liked that feature in the NHL series. Many countries represented whether they have a rich hockey history or not. The more the merrier, maybe a preview of WBC 2009 with 20 or 24 teams.

Thanks for the kind words, cloutier, gameguy, & nyyankees

As far as a release, I suppose that if I asked and received permission from Totte to use Ultimate Rosters as the base for player rankings, it could be released now as a work in progress.

It's just 8 team rosters (5 nations) in Class A and their logos at this point

A zip file could be uploaded with:

-- roster dat files (that would go into the MVPdatadatabase folder)

-- logos.big (MVPdatafrontend folder)

-- the 2 LOC files (MVPdata folder)

I could include the mbe for those that want to look, export, or whatever in MVPEdit, but you wouldn't need MVPEdit to install the data files as uploaded.

I just posted some pictures and moved some players around in UR 3.x as a "what if" preview as I certainly don't have the graphical skills or time to do it all myself.

This is project type stuff. A "Team WBC" (or whatever name, suggestions?) would need to be formed with submissions of uniforms, stadiums, logos, portraits, rosters, faces, anything else from all over the modding community.

What's in the game so far:

8 rosters: USA (3), Dominican Republic (2), Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Canada

Logos for all teams above

Roster Notes:

Jesse Crain - Canada

Alex Rodriguez - Dominican II on the bench until he and/or Bud Selig decide who he's playing for

Apologies to fans of the Molina brothers. I used Jorge Posada, Pudge Rodriguez, and Javy Lopez as the 3 catchers for Puerto Rico (only team so far with 3)

I downloaded and installed Bigbully's Team USA uniforms to use for testing purposes

Has any country unveiled a uniform or has MLB said if they're using the designs worn at the All Star Game announcement in Detroit ?

2004 Olympic and 2005 World Cup uniforms, for example, could be possible mods in the meantime and cool 3rd or 4th jerseys once any official WBC uniforms come out. Fantasy or concept or even classic national jerseys could be used.

Given the size of uniforms.big and particularly models.big, the uniforms might need to stay separate packages and installed by the enduser with MVP Studio until most of them were done and put in a package. Of course, that's up to the creator(s) of the uniforms.

TO DO:

-- Rosters and logos for the other 11 WBC participants (see post above for status); any other nations, junior teams, US or World Futures Game teams, whoever

-- Uniforms for all teams

-- Portraits for WBC roster players not in Ultimate Rosters / Total Portraits

-- Possible stadium mods for hosts of games in the tournament: Hiram Bithorn, Japanese stadiums for Asian qualifier (all games at Tokyo Dome?), WBC version of MLB venues (Petco), alternate locations for international flavor (home stadium for every team?)

-- Replace Class A logo with the World Baseball Classic logo ?

-- ESPN / WBC overlay ?

-- There's over four months to come up with other ideas and 18,000 modders and counting to think of them

Thanks for the offer to help on Taiwan & Australia and the info about the Chinese, uspdude.

Totte has approved using Ultimate Rosters as the base for the WBC roster. I hope to have the first preview released by the weekend so people can start trying out different matchups and lineup combinations. It will use 3.13B for now and I will update periodically as new UR's are released and WBC teams added.

hey I´m from Venezuela...and I can Help you to the realistic line-up..but the President of the Venezuelan league is going to say the 30 man Roster in March 2nd.....ANNDDD a suggestions that I have to you ...ALL the players that are going to play for Venezuela are Big Leaguers ..less 1 the name is " Alex Cabrera" that plays to the Japananese League and is the Leader of all of times in Home Run in that league.. and made a home run contest against Barry Bonds..

Just look in some finder in the net about him...

this are some WEB information about him..

Thanks for the heads up, alvaron.

Most of the information out on the Classic so far is quite biased toward filling rosters with MLB and MLB affiliated players. Alex Cabrera will be a great fit to a Venezuelan squad that lacks a true 1B from picks available here in the States. I'll start working on him and I'll need to figure out a numbering system for the portraits to be added. Another Venezuelan with good numbers in Japan is Alex Ramirez from the Yakult Swallows (.282, 32 HR, 104 RBI)

So far, there are 11 pitchers

Victor Martinez and Ramon Hernandez are at Catcher

OF (CF play): Abreu (not since 02, athletic enough to play it), Miguel Cabrera (0 career games), Hidalgo (3 games in 05, 361 career), Ordonez (not since 03) & Juan Rivera (4 games in 05, 13 in 2004)

IF: Guillen (3B/SS), Vizquel (SS), Alfonzo (3B/IF), Cesar Izturis (SS/2B), Tomas Perez (2B/IF)

UTIL rating: Melvin Mora, Miguel Cairo

2 questions for those who know much about either of the Alex's in Japan:

Which position player gets left off a 25 man roster with Alex Cabrera on it?

Does Alex Ramirez displace someone, and if so, maintain enough depth at all positions?

Responses:

1) In the MVP baseball game i put Alex Cabrera and released Miguel Cairo..

But in the World Cup they are going to be 30 players with ALEX CABRERA including.

2) AND in the Game i Put Alex Ramirez and released Richard Hidalgo.

and here some WEB whit information about ALEX RAMIREZ

Thanks everyone for the kind words, helpful suggestions, and offers of help with mods.

ncaapitcher, a beta version with just rosters and logos can be downloaded here.

OK, Team Mexico. Here's what I'm looking at right now:

Note: Players that aren't in Ultimate Rosters are italicized.

Pitchers: Oliver Perez, E. Loaiza, Elmer Dessens, Rodrigo Lopez, Ismael Valdez, J. De La Rosa, Rigo Beltran, Luis Ayala, R. Rincon, D. Reyes, Antonio Osuna

Catchers - 2 or 3 of these choices: Miguel Ojeda, Rod Barajas (i think he's a dual citizen), Humberto Cota, Geronimo Gil

Infield: Guillermo Velasquez (can he still play OF?), Jorge Cantu, Vinny Castilla, A. Amezaga, E. Durazo, Juan Castro, Adrian Gonzalez (dual citizen, can play RF as well)

Outfield: Mario Valenzuela, Luis Garcia (one with Balt in 2002, not the one in Norfolk earlier this year & in UR), Karim Garcia

Some other possibilities: Oscar Robles (LA), Francisco Campos, Javier Robles, Jorge Campillo, David Cortes, Edgar Gonzalez (P)

I guess start suggesting changes to the preliminary 25 (particularly any additional players in Mexico or Japan that would make the team) and adjustments can be made closer to tourney time.

The last I heard, Alex Rodriguez has decided to play for the Dominican team, despite being born in New York City and growing up here. That's some great loyalty, Alex.

I'm looking forward to downloading this as it progresses, and once they announce a final list of stadiums, I may work on getting those up in the game. If nothing else, i'd love to have Koshien in MVP.

edit:

Apparently, the Japanese games will take place at the Tokyo Dome, while the South American ones will take place at Hiram Birthorn, so we will probably have every stadium but the Japanese one.

For the team Mexico:

Definitly Barajas and Adrian Gonzalez are nopt being considered for the team.

Right now the Mexican League had announced that manager Francisco "Paquin" Estrada is the favorite for being the manager for Mexico.

Francisco Campos has been selected as Mexican League Pitcher of the year and I'm pretty sure he's going to be on the team. He has over 1000 strikeouts in his career. Here are his stats for the last season

http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...id=milb&cid=523

Javier Robles is th Mexican League Player of the Year. Hes a veteran SS, last season he hity for .392 avg. His stats:

http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...id=milb&cid=569

In the same page are the statics of Guillermo Velazquez (he only plays at 1B now) and Matias Carrillo, a veteran RF and fan favorite that is very probable that hes going to the tournament.

karim Garcia played last year in Japan, so you can fin his stats on the japanese league page

Rigo Beltran has been struggling for the last years, I dont think hes going to be on the team.

Victor Alvarez is mexican and hes on the UR 3.14 on the FA, same as Benji Gil and Juan Acevedo.

Oscar Villareal (arizona) is a good young pitcher and may be on the team.

I also found this article (in spanish), its an interview with Jose Contreras and he says he wants to play for the Cuban team (if they decide to go)

http://espndeportes.espn.go.com/story?id=377019

Roberto Kelly is the Manager for the Panama team. Tony Peña is the manager for the Dominican team, he already has a face in MVP. Luis Sojo is going to be in charge of the Venezuela team.
