Expos Audio?

Hello,

I've been searching everywhere on the forum for replacing a team with the Montreal Expos. I saw a download pack, but it doesn't include the audio. I also saw an old forum with someone asking the same question, but they never explained how it was achieved:

Is it possible to edit the audio of one team to change it to say the Expos (or other minor league teams, etc)? And is it really worth it in anyone's opinion? Hahaha

I guess while I'm at it, I mine as well ask one more question. I learned how to change the text of any team to say "Expos" and accessed the uniforms in EAgraph. However I cannot find out where the team logos are filed, any help in this just in case I wanted to add my own custom Expos logo to replace another teams logo. *Edit*figured this part out

Thanks in advance, any help linking tutorials would suffice just as well as direct answers! (:

Okay I have made a little progress in this. I have taken the audio files from the 1994 mod that say the Montreal Expos and have converted them into the MVP 13 mod. However I am doing this "blindly". I was able to have the announcers say "Expos" in place of "Nationals" but only because I kept the file name the same (28.hdr) If there is a way to be able to extract the audio files and somehow convert and then listen to them that help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to replace the Rays however and not the Nationals, so I have to play around with the numbers a little more.

The only advice I can give you right now is the same thing I tell everyone else. Back up your files before you attempt to do anything like this on your own especially when you are not 100% sure of what you are doing.

One other thing. I admire how you have been searching the forums for answers to your questions. It is a pleasant and welcome surprise.

Thanks!! Yes I have backed them all up, that was a huge piece of advice I have repeatedly read throughout the forums as well. In fact the best way to learn is to mess up from time to time and experiment around. Btw thanks for your help (indirectly) I have read some good posts from you during my searches hahahaha

Okay I have made a little more progress that may help some others out too!

Unfortunately it seems like just simply renaming the 28.hdr and 28.dat files will not cause the announcers to rename other teams to the Expos. The GOOD NEWS is the announcers won't say the old team name though. Instead they will say the "home team" or "visiting team." This is still pretty cool, because hearing that is more tolerable than playing with the Expos and hearing the announcers call the team the "Tampa Bay Rays."

To explain it a little further basically the two files 28.hdr and 28.dat come from the audio files of the 1994 Mod. They represent the audio files for the announcers saying the "Montreal Expos." The number 28 represents the Washington Nationals. So its an easy fix to get the announcers to say "Montreal Expos" in place of the "Washington Nationals." However for me personally, I don't mind the Nationals being in the league and would rather replace the Tampa Bay Rays. I wasn't sure what number represented the Rays, so I messed around with changing the file names of 28.hdr and 28.dat to 29.hdr and 29.dat. After a while of picking random teams in exhibition mode I found out 29 = New York Mets. To make a long story short I changed the file names again and realized 25 = St. Louis Cardinals. So I remember seeing these numbers when doing the 2014 schedule update and the Team specific ID numbers are in the data->database->team.fsh file. Once I opened this I was able to find out the team ID for the Tampa Bay Rays is 13. So I changed the 28.hdr and 28.dat to 13.hdr and 13.hdr and imported them through the bigGui program. The announcers did not say the Montreal Expos, but they also did not say the Tampa Bay Rays at all during the game. The same applied with the Mets and Cardinals. Instead the announcers would just say the Visiting team or focus on my opponent. Like they would say "And Orioles are up by 3 through 2innings." So this is kind of cool as a "place holder" audio file in the time being before I (or someone else) can figure out how to modify the .hdr and .dat files.

My thinking is that somewhere in the .hdr and .dat files are text with the ID number '28' representing the Nationals as the team to be replaced. Although I could be way off on that because I am a newb, its just my guess at this point. In the meantime I will try to search ways to open/preview .hdr files and .dat files.

If anyone has any suggestions I am all ears! :D

You are on the right track. You can rename those files to the number you want, however, you also have to hex edit one of them (the .hdr file, I think), Embedded in that file is the number of the audio .dat file associated with the .hdr file. You have to change that number to the new number. I had to do that when moving audios around as I developed the Total Classics mods.

If there is no .dat file, no team name will be announced, as you found, sort of. The renamed 13.hdr file had the number 28 embedded in it, to indicate that the audio file associated with it is 28.dat. Since you renamed it to 13.dat, there is now no longer a 28.dat file, and therefore, no audio available for 13.hdr. That's why the announcers could not say a team name.

I will try to dig through my modding notes at home tonight to get the exact information you need to get your Expos audio working.

>this audio tutorial will teach you how to hex edit. it talks about doing it for players but it's the same for team hdr files.

>this will give you the teams associated with each id number.

I haven't read your posts in its entirety yet, but sounds like you are on the right track from glancing at what you wrote. the dat files are the actual audio files, where the hdr files are sort of a place holder that tells the game to play the dat file. editing player audios is pretty straight forward, but i do remember there's something tricky about doing teams. i don't remember exactly what that is off the top of my head so you will have to experiment and see what happens.

Thank you both for the replies! Once I'm off work I will definitely check that tutorial! I figured that number 28 was embedded in the .hdr file. I think I may have to hex edit and change one of the codes from ASCI to ACSII (?) or something along those lines, at least that is what I read in an earlier thread someone mentioned about player audio files. But yeah Jim825 if you come across those notes that would be great (:

Edit: Update*

The tutorial is well written and easy to follow, but my game crashes after my attempt at modding the audio. My guess is the .hdr file was not modded correctly on my end. I have trouble at this part: "What you will need to note is this four digit combination of numbers and letters in pairs. The first pair (in pink) is eventually going to be noted later, and the second pair (noted in green) will also need to be noted later. "

Basically I am not sure which hexadecimal to edit. In this case I just guessed and edited the "1c" to 0d" which would be changing '28' to '13' in decimal.

Sill gonna keep trying though!

  • 2 months later...

I've been trying to change the team name of the Oakland Athletics to the Oakland A's, but it blanks out the "Oakland A's" name on road games like at Baltimore, New York, etc.. I've been searching and using trial and error but I just can't get it to work. I've been studying my printout of the forum article, "Changing audio files for teams" but the one that did the explanations didn't give detailed explanations of the abbreviations. I checked the hdr file of mine to the example and formulas and I didn't see anything different except for the df_01 on the first line that he thought was the size of the file but didn't explain how to measure the file and how to put it in the hdr file.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

BRobby05

PS: I even used the original hdr file from the disc.

I got it to work!!!!!!!!!!! Kuiper said "and the Montreal Expos"

SUCCESSS!

I want to thank everyone for their help here in this thread (and no it didn't take me 3 months hahaha I was just on pause for a while)

The hex edit I changed was in this photo:

jTOREUk.jpg

What I changed was the 1C which = 28. The 28 stands for "Washington Nationals." I had to change this to 13 because I wanted to replace the Tampa Bay Rays and not the Nationals. So all I had to do was open the .hdr a change the 1C to 0d. 0d = 13 and the 13 would replace the Rays with Expos audio!

*And I did this in MVP 14 conversion mod. So now I can start my owner mode with the new MVP 14 (:

Here is a short video showing the audio with the new mvp'14
