Windows 8.1 Caveats

Hi everyone - since it appears that Microsoft is no longer allowing upgrading to 8.1 to be an option (I was forced to upgrade today), I thought I'd share the annoying impacts on playing 2K12.

First of all, if you don't have your product key, try to find it. Once you are on Win 8.1, it treats the game as a new install. Thankfully for me, I purchased it via download from Amazon, and they still had it stored in my amazon.com profile. I've now written it down and put it with the rest of my valuables

Next, be prepared to be frustrated by having to provide your log in credentials for 2K Sports. Somehow I managed to guess at mine and was successful, even though it leads to the usual "unable to connect to 2K sports at this time" message.

Lastly, be prepared to want to throw your computer through the nearest window when you finally get your game running, and you realize that your controller no longer has any drivers associated. It was tricky, but I was able to finally update my Logitech wireless dual stick to the drivers for a wireless xbox controller and everything started working fine again.

In summary, it's a pain in the ***, but nothing that can't be fixed once you've been "upgraded". For those using Windows 8.0 who haven't had the forced upgrade yet, search for that product key!

You're lucky your serial code worked from Amazon. I tried mine and it didn't work at all.

But just some info if you ever have to reinstall it again and your code doesn't work all you have to do is install this mod on here

I found that after you install that even if you dont have your serial key it will start up just fine.
