All-Time Fictional Film Baseball Squad

I haven't heard back from Boone and he hasn't posted in a few weeks. Taking this in mind, as well as the description of his project as one where Donald Trump and Eminem would take the field, I feel safe in starting a new thread. Should he come forward with objections, we can deal with them civilly.

Here's my plan. I already composed a roster of adult male fictional baseball players from movie and, in one instance, television. I've been working on collecting portraits for them and, with the exception of one, either have them or have access to them. Here's the roster:

1B - Jack Elliot ( Tom Selleck - Mr. Baseball)

2B - Dennis Ryan (Frank Sinatra - Take Me Out to the Ballgame)

3B - Roger Dorn (Corbin Bernsen - Major League)

SS - Joe Hardy (Tab Hunter - Damn Yankees)

LF - Isuro Tanaka (Takaaki Ishibashi - Major League)

CF - Willie Mays Hayes (Wesley Snipes - Major League)

RF - Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford - The Natural)

C - Crash Davis (Kevin Costner - Bull Durham)

DH - Pedro Cerrano (Dennis Haysbert - Major League)

P - Ebby Calvin 'Nuke' LaLoosh (Tim Robbins - Bull Durham)

P - Billy Chapel (Kevin Costner - For the Love of the Game)

P - Steve Nebraska (Brendan Fraser - The Scout)

P - Bingo Long (Billy Dee Williams - The Bingo Long Traveling All Stars and Something or Another)

P - Henry "Author" Wiggen (Michael Moriarty - Bang the Drum Slowly)

LRP - Sam "May Day" Malone (Ted Danson - Cheers)

LRP - Montgomery Brewster (Richard Pryor - Brewster's Millions)

MRP - Chet Steadman (Gary Busey - Rookie of the Year)

MRP - Mel Clark (Tony Danza - Angels in the Outfield)

CP - Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn (Charlie Sheen - Major League)

C - Jake Taylor (Tom Berenger - Mr. Baseball)

C - Bruce Pearson (Robert DeNiro - Bang the Drum Slowly)

Util - The Whammer (Joe Don Baker - The Natural)

1B - Stan Ross (Bernie Mac - Mr. 3000)

OF - Barry Bo...Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes - The Fan)

I'm going to start tonight with setting up the roster. I will first be using stats from players whom the fictional characters were based on, i.e.

Bobby Rayburn = Barry Bonds

The Whammer = Babe Ruth

Billy Chapel = David Cone

Bingo Long = Satchel Paige

Roy Hobbs = Eddie Waitkus (maybe)

Nuke LaLoosh = Steve Dalkowski

Dennis Ryan = Johnny Evers

Crash Davis = Crash Davis (maybe)

And some that I think resemble other players in real life, i.e.

Joe Hardy = Mickey Mantle

Mel Clark = John Franco

Isuro Tanaka = So Taguchi

...And I'd be hapy to take arguments and suggestions from the floor.

I think they should wear the uniforms of the previous PCL league team The Hollywood Stars, although I don't know what stadium should be their home. I'm guessing that I'd set it up for them to replace one of the Heroes and Legends teams.

Any other ideas? Contributions? People willing to make cyberfaces?

Here's a team I might like to see. I can do some further research into what real life players might fit with these characters, though some initial thoughts are listed below.

Thanks,

The trouble with some of these is that I wouldn't be able to find portraits and/or proper cyberface material for them, esp. Bruce Bennett. Maybe what I'll do is make a core lineup, then release player packs later that you can switch out, complete with portrait and cyberface and file for MVPEdit.

And I still say base Chapel on David Cone, who pitched a perfect game at Yankee Stadium and who, according to the Yes Network at least, Costner based parts of the character on.

Good call! I can see Cone on Chapel. I just threw together some quick ideas. Some others, like Foxx for Dugan might work... but we would have to push the stats back a bit, because no way Dugan puts up Hall of Fame numbers. My guess is he comes close, but his career was cut short due to alcoholism.

As far as a stadium goes, I'd say Ebbets Field or the Polo Grounds would work.

I'm not good with cyber faces, but I can try to pull together some base stats for each player once we decide on who we want to model them after.

The problem with kids is that...well, they're kids. You could use the skinny body type, I guess, but part of me feels (1) it just wouldn't look right and (2) that it would be unfair, due to the lack of female body types, to leave out Tatum O'Neal from the original Bad News Bears.

Although I guess I'm already leaving out Dotty Henson from A League of Their Own.
