Dances With Wolves... A Cleveland Indian Dynasty

This is my first public dynasty and I want to keep it going through multiple years, something that most others don't do. So I won't be doing a recap on every single game, I will be simming about half of the games. So expect a recap only once or twice a series at most. I won't always recap the same pitcher or anything like that, but I am doing this so that it keeps my dynasty going smoothly over many years. I am going to try and make my recaps like Lual's and Rolliefinger's, they are short and sweet.

The Indians have a lot of young talent on their team and are hovering on the edge of the playoffs, so I am here to push them into the playoffs and further.

Your 2006 Cleveland Indians are Announced

Wedge and his Staff released their Opening Day Rosters for the 2006 season today. The roster looks pretty much as expected with Wedge saying that productivity will have the final say throughout the season.

The Indians will open their season with a tough 3 game series against the defending World Series Champion Chicago White Sox at US Cellular Field. We will see CC Sabathia on the hill against Mark Buehrle.

The Indians came ready to play against the defending World Series champs. Eduardo Perez went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles while Travis Hafner and Casey Blake got their first HR's of the year. Sabathia pitched well enough for the win scattering 7 hits over 6 innings if work.

The Indians started out well when Sabathia retired the first 6 batters and a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd. But Joe Crede soon ended the smooth sailing with a 445 foot blast that brought in 3. The hitting didn't stop after that with both teams leaving their fair share of men in scoring position. The Indians threatened to blow the game open with a 2 run HR by Peralta that was brought back in my Scott Podsednik and then a solo shot by Blake that was also brought back in by Podsednik. But the Indians had the last laugh as Hafner blew one over the left field wall for a 2 run HR in the top of the 7th which was followed by a Casey Blake HR in the 8th for added insurance.

Clubhouse Talk:

Blake: "Who knew Podsednick could field like that, but at least I got the last laugh"

Indian Hitting :

Perez: 3/4, 2 2B

Hafner: 2/5, HR, 2 RBI

Indian Pitching:

Sabathia: 6.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Wickman: 1.0 IP, 1 H

Injury Report: Aaron Boone will be out for 29 days after spraining his right Hip Flexor in the 8th sliding into 2nd. 3B Andy Marte is called up to fill the void.

Jake Westbrook looked like he had total control of the plate and had a good game going, that is until the bottom of the 3rd when Joe Crede smashed a 3 run homer into the right field stands at US Cellular Field. From that point on it was all Chicago - All the time. Westbrook left after 3 and Cabrera came in, only to pick up where Westbrook left off. Letting up 4 more runs in the 4th inning. So it was all Crede in the 3rd, and then all Konerko and Podsednik in the 4th with a Podsednik triple followed by a Konerko HR. Garcia pitched a nice game after letting in 3 in the first inning, striking out 6 in 7 innings.

Clubhouse Talk:

Miller: "The guys just couldn't get it going tonight, so I just went in and did whatever I could to try to keep us close - It's never fun going in like that."

Great Start By Lee Leads Indians to take Series

Both pitchers looked dominant today and it was definatly one of those 'small ball' games. Cliff Lee brought a no nitter into the 5th inning before Jermaine Dye managed a 2-out double. Jose Contreras held off the Indians until Travis Hafner went opposite field for a solo shot and his 2nd HR of the year in the top of the 5th. The only other action we saw was with 2 outs in the 6th when Casey Blake hit a double and Grady Sizemore battled off a nice pitch that broke his bat for an RBI single.

Wickman came in for the save in the bottom of the 9th and looked alittle shaky. He let up 2 hits before getting an out. Then with 2 runners in scoring position AJ Pierzynski hit a sac fly to bring the White Sox within one and a runner on 3rd. But Wickman held true and got the last out on a line drive to 1st basemen Eduardo Perez.

Clubhouse Talk:

Lee: "I just had control today and kept the ball down. A solid fielding effort behind me is to thank.

Indian Hitting:

Martinez: 3/4, 2B

Hafner: 1/4, HR, RBI

Indian Pitching:

Lee: 6.0 IP, 4 H, BB, K

Mota: 2.0 IP, K

Wickman: 1.0 IP, 1 ER

I have a question about how you guys think I shyould report on the few games I sim here and there. Its the beginning of the season now so I am playing all the games at the moment, but soon I will start simming a few games here and there.

So should I just have the scores with the WP, LP and say like 1 'Player of the Game' or something to that sort?

Or should I have just the scores?

Or should I not even report anything?

Indians Drop Home Opener to Twins

Whatever the Indians did they just couldn't figure out Kyle Lohse and the Twins. Lohse was resentless today, going the distance and his only mistake was a 2-Run HR to Rookie Andy Marte, other than that he pitched effectively and baffled the Indians the whole day. The Twins offense started up in the 2nd with a solo shot from Michael Cuddyer and blew the game open in the 4th witha Torii Hunter HR and a 2 run double by Cuddyer.

Paul Byrd got roasted by the Twins, but he did show some good adding 6 strikeouts in only 5.1 innings of work. Graves saw his first action today pitching 3.2 innings of relief.

CLE 0 1 0 3 2 0 2 0 0 8 11 3

The Indians are beginning to love playing against leftys - Ron Belliard took full advantage of batting in the 2 spot against leftys with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs on the day. Eduardo Perez also took full advantage of starting against leftys when he nailed a 3 run HR in the 4th to give the Indians the lead. Grady Sizemore helped out by using his speed and playing small ball, grabbing 2 stolen bases and beating out a drag bunt for a single.

Despite the numbers Jason Johnson pitched well, letting up 6 runs, but only 3 of them were earned. Marte, Broussard, and Michaels all made blunders in the field that almost cost the Indians the game.

Clubhouse Talk:

Sizemore: "I was just getting good jumps on my 2 steals, I was stealing the pitcher not the catcher in this case."

Blown Saves and Bad Calls as Indians Drop Series With the Twins

CLE 0 0 0 5 1 1 0 0 0 0 7 14 1

Another high scoring day game for the Indians, but this time they didn't come out on top. Sabathia turned in a pretty poor performance going 7.2 innings and striking out 7 batters while letting in 6 runs, only 4 being earned. He pitched well enough though and was in line for the win going into the top of the 9th inning. Enter closer Bob Wickman with 2 saves already but yet to have a perfect inning of work this year. One out in the top of the 9th when Rondell White went yard for his second solo shot of the game to tie the game at 7.

The 10th inning is where things got interesting. Michael Cuddyer started things off with a leadoff double and Joe Mauer hit him in on a controversy call at the plate. Indians Manager Eric Wedge came out screaming at the Home Plate Umpire but it was to no avail as he got ejected. It only got worse as Lew Ford was called safe on a call at 2nd that was closer to the 'out' side. With no manager the Indians took the bad calls and took the 10-7 loss.

Clubhouse Talk:

Wedge: "Calls like that just baffle me, I don't know how people can be allowed to umpire at the MLB level that can't even call the easiest calls right!"

Felix Hernandez is supposed to be the Mariners savior, their King, and baseball's prodigy. But that destiny was put on hold tonight when Victor Martinez and the Indians tagged him for 6 earned runs in only 2.2 innings of work. The Indians busted the game open in the 3rd inning with a single by Peralta followed by an RBI double by Travis Hafner. Victor Martinez added to the run with a 2 run shot that traveled over 435 feet. Travis Hafner later added a solo shot in the 7th just in case, and the Indians rode to victory in this rubber match.

Coming off a shaky start last week against the Twins, Paul Byrd got it right this time against the Mariners. Byrd pitched 7 innings of 1 run ball before turning it over to Fernando Cabrera to finish it out. Byrd ended with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks, much improved from his first start.

C.C. Sabathia and the Indians brought there brooms in today as they completed the 3 game sweep of the Orioles. The Indians got it started in the first inning when Ramon Vazquez (Peralta got a days rest) hit in Grady Sizemore. But Chris Gomez knocked a solo shot in the bottom of the inning to tie it at 1. So Travis Hafner came out and smashed a 2 run shot into the right field stands to bring the Indians up 3-1. From there on out Sizemore hit in 3 more runs and Casey Blake had an RBI single.

Sabathia had a quality start going 7 strong innings and letting in only 3 earned runs (HR's by Gomez and Lopez) and striking out 3. Even though his strikeout total is low for the year (only 13 after 28 IP) the staff is happy with the way he is making people ground out and just controlling the game. Rafael Betancourt came out to finish of the game and struck out 2 in only 2 innings. A solid effort by the Indians pitching staff.

Future OF Prospect Arrives From Phillies

roberson.jpg

Chris Roberson sporting his new Indians Cap

April 24th, 2006 - The Cleveland Indians have reached a deal with the Philidelphia Phillies that will sent SP Ben Howard to the Phillies for CF Chris Roberson. The Indians have been in talks with many teams looking for another OF to split time with Jason Michaels and possibly another 1st Basemen. Chris Roberson was hitting .289 with 1 HR and 5 SB in 14 games for AAA Scranton.

While the Indians like the speed he shows and are looking for some speed in their outfield, Roberson was placed on AAA Buffalo. They are looking for him to show some better hitting skills, mainly being more patient and getting deeper into the count when hitting. But it is a definate possibility that we could see Roberson in an Indians uniform in the near future.

gwynn.jpg

Tony Gwynn Jr. Joins A Talented Group of OF Prospects

On the same day the Indians made another move when they traded RP Jason Stanford to MIL for CF Tony Gwynn Jr. Gwynn is the son of future HOF Tony Gwynn and the Indians must think they can see a vision of his father in him. Coming off the bench for AAA Nashville Sounds he was hitting .250 with no HR, but had 4 SB in only 30 appearences at the plate. The Indians hope to use his mix of contact and speed to their benefit in the future. Gwynn Jr was placed into the RF spot on the AAA Buffalo Bisons.

Westbrook turned in his first quality performance of the year and the Indians payed him back by giving him his first win of the year. Westbrook almost went the distance but was taken out with 2 outs in the ninth with the bases loaded. Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez did there part in backing Westbrook up as they both hit 2 Run HR's, Hafner in the 4th to start the scoring and Martinez's came in the 8th for some added insurance. Wickman came into the 9th with 2 outs and loaded bases but got J.T. Snow to ground out to 3rd.

Clubhouse Talk:
