Despite Long Night, Indians Bring Sticks Against Oakland

After last nights long 17 inning game both teams must have been tired, but after this 7-1 take down of the A's, we know at least some Indians were awake. Whether it was coffee, or manager Eric Wedge sent Byrd home in the 14th to get some rest, Paul; Byrd put in a nice display on 6.2 shutout innings. Mike Miller and Guillermo Mota pitched the last 2.1 innings and didn't let in any earned runs.

While Jason Michael's 3-run HR was a big boost, it was the only extra base hit for the Indians who still managed to get 7 runs against the A's. Despite the great game, one thing is for sure - All the players on the squad will be getting some much needed rest tonight!

Young Guns Sleepless in Seattle

Felix Hernandez and the Mariners stood in the way of Adam Miller's first win. Tonight that proved to be too much. Miller's endurance came into play tonight much as it did for his minor league career. Adam was strong in the first 6 innings, letting up only 2 runs both solo shots by Carl Everett and Richie Sexton and striking out 2 with no walks. But it was when he tried to go into the 7th inning that he ran into problems. After letting up 1 run that inning Danny Graves was brought in with no outs and bases loaded and he proceded to let in 3 more runs, 2 of them given to Adam Miller.

On Seattle's side King Felix got his 2nd win and looked much like the prodigy he is supposed to be. Hernandez went 7.1 strong innings letting up only 1 run (Grady Sizemore HR) and striking out 4.

Sabathia Dominates Mariners as Indians Win 3-0

C.C. Sabathia must have ate something else for breakfast this morning as he was dominate tonight, pitching one of his best games of his career. Sabathia owned the Mariners tonight letting up only 5 hits on the way to his first complete game shutout this year. Eric Wedge and the rest of the tribe are hoping that Sabathia will have more than a few more nice games like these coming this season.

The Indians brought just enough offense to give Sabathia his 3rd win of the year. Sizemore started it off with an RBI double in the 3rd, while Belliard hit a solo HR in the 5th, and Jason Michaels had a solo shot in the 6th.

Yep, plus me and my friends found a toilet on the side of the road for Free, so we took it, got the roof of the school and put it right in front, over the main entrance!

hehehe I actually have some pictures I am getting soon. It rocked come morning everyone saw a big toilet on top of the school. ahhh and we are only juniors and we totally one- up'd the seniors prank.

They did a bunch of little things - Slept in tents in our courtyard on a school night, stole the 'Iron Cow' (a homecoming thing our school has), planned to throw water balloons on everyone from roof (rained that afternoon). Plus while we were on the roof we dumped about 350 water balloons off the roof so the seniors couldnt do it. THey had them in coolers from the other day.

Anyway I'm going to practice now, but I'll be home around 8-9 pm est, so expect an update then, prolly at least of a 3 game series with the Brewers and maybe another. See you then...

Big Inning Leads Tigers Over Indians

May 1st, 2006: Detroit Tigers (14-21) @ Cleveland Indians (20-15)

5_11.jpg

Left: Andy Marte turns a great DP at 3rd Right: Peralta's liner squeezes by for a double

W: Kenny Rogers (2-4) L: C.C. Sabathia (3-1) S: Dan Reichert (7)

CLE 0 0 2 1 0 0 0 0 0 3	6 1

C.C. Sabathia took the mound confident from his last outing (a complete game shutout), but that confidence quickly faded as Carlos Guillen took the first pitch of the game out into the left field stands. That is never the way to start off a game, but Sabathia 'looked' to rebound and pitched the next 4 innings nicely while the Indians took a 3-1 lead after Sizemore, Peralta, and Michaels all hit solo homers.

But perhaps the leadoff HR to start the game was a foreshadow of what was coming for the Indians in the 5th. An error to lead of the 5th allowed Carlos Guillen to start off on 2nd. Then a single by Wilson moved Guillen to third which set up an RBI single by I-Rod, 3-2 Indians still up. Single by Vance Wilson and I-Rod paved the way for a 3 run dagger by Magglio Ordonez to make the score 5-3. The Indians never recovered as the Tigers bullpen remained solid, and the Indians took the loss 5-3.

Clubhouse Talk:

Martinez: "It's tough to rebound after a first pitch HR, but C.C. seemed alright. Magglio just hit the ball well, nothing you can do but watch it go.

CLE 0 0 2 0 3 1 0 0 x 6 12 2

When Adam Miller was called up to the majors and given a chance to show what he had in the 5th spot of the rotation fans were very excited, his 98+ MPH fastball will do that to people. But that excitement left the fans as he had 3 miserable loses and an era of over 5.00. But After tonights game I have a feeling the excitement is back and bigger than ever. Adam led the Indians out of a 5-game slide while showing great control and keeping the Royals in check all night long. He pitched 7 strong innings of shutout ball and struck out 3 batters. The Indians used Huston Street in a none save situation to keep him fresh.

While the Royals did have 3 costly errors during the game, the Indians came ready to play. Ron Belliard started it off in the 3rd inning with a 2-run single after Sizemore got on from an error. Grady Sizemore drove in 2 more in the 5th with a triple and Belliard then brought him in with a double of his own. Then in the 6th, just for good measure Jason Michaels went opposite field to seal the deal with a solo shot.

Clubhouse Talk:

Martinez: "Adam was hitting every spot I gave him. You could see the kid's confidence rising throughout the night."

Sizemore: 1/4, 3B, 2 RBI

Adam Miller was fresh off his first win and the best game of his career and rode that feeling into tonights rubber game against the Pirates. Miller pitched 4.2 innings when he called the trainers out to the mound after giving up a HR to Sean Casey. In the press conference after the game it was announced that he felt something in his wrist tweak after the pitch to Sean Casey and it stiffened right up. Jason Johnson came in to pitch the rest of the game and take the win.

By that time the Indians were up 5-1 after a team record 4 home runs in the 2nd inning. Victor Martinez and Ben Broussard went back to back to get the ball rolling and then Casey Blake and Grady Sizemore went back to back later on the inning. They ended up scoring 5 runs in the 2nd and then 2 more in the 5th.

Clubhouse Talk:

In the 3rd Sizemore led off with a single and was knocked in by Jhonny Peralta. Then continued the long balls in the 4th with a solo shot by Eduardo Perez. A Look At Huston Street After Rocky Series...

While Huston Street did pick up 2 saves in 2 chances this series, they both were very rocky. In the first game he let up 2 walks in 1 inning, but recovered nicely and didn't let up any runs. In the second game he let up a 2 run HR to Luis Castillo in the 9th, and had a runner on 2nd before he got the save. Mench has released a statement saying that "the Indians are not concerned and that Street is their man." He blames Streets shaky performance on his lack of work due to the Indians losing streak they went through the last 2 weeks.

Trade Rumors...

With the 1st base position barely contributing offensively; Broussard/Perez a combined .247 with 7 HR and 22 RBI; manager Eric Mench and the Indians organization has been looking at some other options. While shopping around for a young 1st basemen is the first choice, one option may be the more plausable.

That option being moving Travis Hafner from DH to actually playing the field, the Indians have talked to him about it and he has been practicing there since the beginning of the year. Then either shopping for somebody with a big stick to play in the DH spot, or moving Casey Blake to play DH and finding somebody to play right field.

Blake has been a monster at the plate this year hitting .306 with 6 HR and 20 RBI. Problem is he leads the team with 6 errors, and a few costly plays that may not be ruled errors, but have costs the Indians a few runs. Mench said that he can't stand that kind of fielding and the Indians may look to their farm system for a more speedy and aggresive outfielder.

What do you guys think I should do about my 1st base situation? I want to have your guys' input some more - Make it more fun for you guys to follow. Hows that sound?

Anyway Perez is hitting pretty good powerwise he has 3 HR in like 20 hits and he is hitting like .275 or something. Problem is he is hitting only against lefties and no way he can bat against right handers. With Broussard in my 6 spot, I need either more power or more contact and speed in that spot. Broussard just isnt cutting it.

So what do ya think?
