take it easy guys!

i'm French, living in France and i'm not offended when other people name us "the frogs". We take it like an affectionate nickname.

one thing about Zidane: he's one of the most talented football players but yesterday he showed us he's just human, with his weaknesses.

does anybody has an explanation?: how such a huge country like the US can't compete in many sports against small countries. for example soccer(didn't pass the 1st round in the world cup), hockey (olympics and world cup for the swedes) world baseball classics(japan) basketball(olympics for argentina). :D

The Americans (and everyone bar Europe & Argentina/Brazil) don't do well at the World Cup cos they aren't very good at cheating.

According to Brazilian TV, the Italian guy called Zidane's sister a prostitute.

So young soccer players, if you're training to win the World Cup one day, play-acting and baiting the opposition are the two most important skills you need to succeed, forget about talent and skill, those are overrated.

The USA doesnt compete in those global sports for a few reasons.

Futball doesnt count beacuse it is such a young sport here, and still seen largely as a girls game, although that WILL change. Give them a few years to catch up and theyll be challenging, if it takes off. They also suffer because they lose a lot of potential stars to teh big 4 sports in teh US, so the talent pool is not what you would expect from such a large country. There are probably more amateur soccer players in most European nations than over here.

Olympic sports dont count because it is supposed to be an amateur event. Therefore most of the stars form the US dont go. If you seriously dont think an NBA all-american allstars team wouldnt destroy just about every other team in the world then you are sorely mistaken. Same with the baseball classic. For one thing, a lot of Americans played for other countries (like of their grandparents birth), and the US team wasnt the best the MLB could put out.

The 3 biggest sports here arent very international and so there isnt a big international sport that is played, like Futball, rugby, cricket, hockey, etc.

Huh?

The USA has won the most medals at every Olympics since 1984 haven't they? And I'm pretty sure they do have the pros playing for the olympic basketball team.

And btw basketball is the 2nd most popular team sport internationally.

I wouldn't rag on the US Soccer team too much, they were in a tough group, if they were better actors they've could've beaten Italy in the group stage and maybe ended up with an easy route to the semi finals.

USA still owns in basketball. The greatest olympic team by far was the 1992 "Dream Team" containing all the greats of the late 80's, early 90s.

Jordan, Ewing, Olajuwan, David Robinson, John Stockton, Barkley. Those were the days.
