I'm guessing it's in Yiddish... I'm not going to even bother looking it up. Here's something, though: the firefox spell-check recognizes the word.

It is indeed Yiddish. Which is why it's kind of shocking that only 2 of 30+ Jews would know its meaning, especially when most of them are Ashkenazi. Ashkenazi is the Hebrew term for European Jews, and Yiddish is a combination of Hebrew, Polish, and German, so you would think that Ashkenazis would know what a common Yiddish word like that would mean.
