Once you have the folder open, click on the executable .jar file named: NBA2K10ModTool. Then follow jhtapp76's excellent instructions below:

The numbers in parenthesis above respresent the player's Portrait ID #. You will need to download the NBA 2K10 Mod tool in order to import these images into your portraits.IFF file. You can download the tool from here

To Install:

1: Create a backup of your existing portrait.iff and portrait.cdf files from your MLB2K10 installation directory

2: Extract the contents of this ZIP file to the location of your choosing.

3: Copy your portrait.iff AND portrait.cdf files from your MLB2K10 installation directory to the same directory to extrated these files to

4: Launch the NBA 2K10 Mod Tool, click open, and browse to the copy of the portrait.iff file you just copied

5: When prompted to decompress, select "Yes"

6: Using the scroll bar in the top left pane, scroll to the portrait ID number corresponding to the player you wish to update

7: Click on "Import Res" and select updated DDS file you extracted earlier

8: Now to see the updated portrait in-game, copy the portrait.cdf file from the location you copied it to before BACK to your MLB2K10 installation directory.

9: Start the game and enjoy

Note: You will not be able to complete step 8 above if the game is running. You will have to exit the game first.

Note #2: Please refer to this post which lists all assigned and unassigned Portrait ID numbers.

Huh? When I look at the files of the NBA2k10 Mod Tool that I downloaded, there is no executable .jar file named NBA2K10ModTool.

Here are the files in the download (all in a .rar file):

lib (which contains several more .rar files, but no .exe files)

j3dcore-d3d.dll

j3dcore-ogl.dll

j3dcore-orl-cq.dll

d3dcore-ogl-chk-dll

Nba2k10ModTool (another .rar file)

inside this last .rar file is bunch of other stuff, broken into 2 more folders:

META-INF

nba2kmodtool

both of which do not contain an .exe file

So, either I'm not downloading the correct thing or I'm completely blind in seeing any .exe file to get the program to run.

Can anybody help me see the light here?

If not, no big deal. I can live with non-updated portraits. But if given the chance, I'd like to try.

Thanks, and have a great day!

Last file in my screenshot below. Do you have java installed on your system?

That is not a RAR file it is a JAR file, and a JAR file is really a renamed ZIP file but I digress

Double click the JAR file and the program will launch, assuming you have java installed

okay, I got it to work. I had java installed at one time but I either uninstalled it (for whatever reason) or I forgot to re-install it after a computer cleaning.

I got java back on my system and, voila!, that file turns from a .rar file to a .jar executable.

Thank you for the help and suggestions to try.

Seeing that we are talking about roster editors. I was using mlb2k10 editor and an update list came up and I accepted it. Then when I went into the game all my portraits were gone. How can I get them back? What I now have in the game is a few portraits that do not match the right player, but 95% of portraits are gone. I am using pc with a keyboard.

Post your issue with the Roster Editor in the MLB 2K10 Roster Editor discussion thread, so Ty or someone else will see it. Also, read thru the thread, as this issue may have already been addressed.
