Jay I am not sure if you or anyone else knows how many different screens there are that need to be replaced with new photos? I have already grabbed my CD that I have my albums on and I have looked through some of the photos. The ones I plan on giving to you guys are all going to be in hi resolution format. I just need to know how many screens there are that are replaced in a mod so I can have a starting number in mind.

I don't know either Y4L, I personally have never dabbled in that area of the files either. Hopefully this thread catches fire and someone who knows will jump in a be kind enough to let us know.

How about you Joe? Will you be able to work on the mod too? I mean aren't you moving to Europe in the coming months? That is going to take a lot of your time.

I'll have time, still not sure if the move is set in stone, but even if it is, I'll definitely make the time.

i don't really feel a need to officially chime in. for one, i never stopped making cyberfaces and don't see a reason to stop yet. i obviously can't make them at the rate as i used to.

secondly, as i've always stated you guys are always welcome to use my faces in conversion mods. it would be nice if others learn though. it would make it go much better.

thirdly, i still plan on keeping the updated facepack, so at the very least guys can download that. the biggest issue i see is i have a lot of other modders' work in it. they have given me permission to use them, but only at mlbmods. we obviously don't need to get into all the reasons why, but i should throw that out there.

lastly, the list you have going is pretty good, but the list of things we need are still pretty significant parts of a mod, so we need to get all of those addressed if we want to do something.

I don't see who will pack it up for install, but that shouldn't be a big issue. at the very least, i could wrap it up to be Tit-ready.

Y4L, i don't recall how many there are either, but i venture there are around 40 to 50 screens you can change. if you go to the frontend folder, open all of those files up with EAgraph and you can see which ones you can update. there's also that initial splash screen. one thing to keep in mind with these screens is that most of us play on widescreen, so you have take a picture you want and crop it to widescreen, then resize it down to a 4:3 ratio. this way when you play, it stretches it out to the correct ratio.

That's good to hear, Homer, and I agree with everything you're saying, you would know better than I. Like I said, I've never been internally involved with a total mod conversion, so I'm sure there are things that I missed.

As far as my part, my work slows down to a snail's pace in the winter, and I'm buried up to my neck in Photoshop anyway. By the time it's said and done, I can promise between Trues and I, we can knock out some kick azz overlays.

Obviously, the more people involved the better, and with the time allotted, and a solid combined effort, this mod shouldn't be too far fetched.

That is something I don't know how to do but now that I know we need about 40 to 50 different screens this gives me something to shoot for. I plan on submitting here more than 50 photos so you all can pick and choose the best ones. Every one will be hi-res and not those little photos that you see on ESPN or places like that.

i take that back. i decided to go look. between the initial splash screen, the bkgnds.big, the loading screens, the license.big, the 58bd.fsh, the splash.fsh...there's 169 you can change. there's one more that you can change but i forget where it's located.

I will do whatever I can to help. I have a general idea on how to do uniforms, obviously not nearly as nice as what has been releaed...but there is still 7 months until spring training.

As for an installer...is Jim able to do these?

My installers are pretty basic. They simply copy files to a particular folder. So when I install uniforms, I'm really just copying the models.big file (which already has the uniforms in it) to the specified data folder. My installer doesn't take the .fsh files and install them in the models.big file for you.

If this is acceptable, I could probably do something to help out.

Awesome, guys, I'll put you on the list as well.

What's the saying? "Every journey begins with the first step?", or something like that.

My suggestion is to keep this thread active with updates, progress, or just merely questions and support pertaining to what you're working on. Not only will everyone be able to see progress with the entire mod as it develops, but those more experienced are likely to come across this thread and offer their assistance, possibly even join the effort. Not only that, once we have some pieces in place, the motivation will almost certainly follow.

Even though time is on our side, getting started as soon as possible may be the key to this mod's success. I personally have a couple of busy weeks of work left, but I plan on digging into the overlay section by at least the 1st of September.

Hello Joe,

First off, I want to thank you for jump starting the interest in creating an MVP ’11 update. I would be more than happy to contribute my time and effort into making this happen for all of the die-hard fans (including myself) of this game. I can do audio, audio editing/mastering, Photoshop/Illustrator, ads, textures, logos, and I’ve made all new 2010 loading screens for my MVP Baseball game. Anything I can do, I would love to help.

After reading through this entire thread I wanted to address 2 main issues and to hopefully offer some positive motivation:

The main issue seems to be that there are not a lot of individuals who can mod. I just wanted to say that when I joined this site back in March, I didn’t know squat about modding this game. I spent the month (off and on) of April going through the “MVP Baseball 2005 for Dummies” and the All-Encompassing FAQ and basically just practiced and practiced some more. It’s definitely a trial and error process and I needed to ask some questions; but the bottom-line is that IT CAN BE DONE. Whatever you want to focus on (Portraits, Uniforms, Rosters), it can be learned. By no means am I an expert, but I have accomplished my desire to make a completely updated (to my tastes) 2010 version of the MVP game for this season and I couldn’t be happier with what I have learned in a relatively short time.

Another issue I noted in the thread was the motivation to do this during the off-season. I’m a big NFL and NBA fan but I have to say my main love is baseball and I put this MVP game up there on the same pedestal. I would be thrilled to work through this project in the fall/winter months to make this a reality by Opening Day next year. I just want to say that you can count on me during the “dead-times” in the forums here. I want to be in this for the long-haul. :drinks:

Outstanding.

I've witnessed your work from the time you joined, and have watched you progess into a talented modder. The things that you have accomplished in such a short time should be a model for the rest of us that haven't modded much in the past, if any at all.

Speaking for the entire project, I'm thrilled you jumped in here with us, I'll put you on the list.  :drinks:

i would like to echo your sentiment. again, we need new blood willing to learn to mod, otherwise we might as well kiss this goodbye.

i've seen what you've done with stadiums. i would like to challenge you to go through rolie's zmod tutorial and learn the major modelling work. that would be the next step at least.

Quick update with this. I already grabbed 149 hi res photos and I am not even close to being done yet.

Homer,

Yes, I definitely will be doing that as my next step in the process. Back in April, I had gone through the Z-mod tutorial as well as the O-edit one. I have used Z-mod in the past but I got discouraged somewhat when I discovered that I could not use O-edit on a system running Windows Vista or 7. I had heard that it will only work with Windows XP…Could you confirm that? Also, if I remember correctly, is it necessary to use O-Edit in order to extract the stadium details…then you can edit the stadium in Z-MOD?

If this is true I will go ahead and convert one of my slightly older desktop PCs back to Windows XP and proceed with going through the tutorials once again. If there is a way to use Windows Vista or 7; that would be ideal…but I’ll ultimately do whatever it takes.

Thanks for any info you may have on this to confirm.

that would be a good question to ask SeanO. he's the only one here who has experience with it. though i can confirm that oedit only works on Xp. if you have windows 7, you could try installing it in XP Mode.
