Sabathia was once again outstanding as he didn't give up a single run for his second consecutive start. Dickey was great as well: he tossed 7 shutout innings, allowed 5 hits and struck out 5. In the 8th the Yankees scored the only run of the game: Martin got a 1-out single, and he was advanced to 3rd by another base hit by Jeter. With men at corners, Granderson hit a ground ball that Wright fielded, but his throw was off-line and Granderson was called safe and Martin scored. CC gave up 2 hits with 2 outs in the 9th inning, and Girardi with the game on the line, decided to go to Mariano Rivera: Rivera retired Paulino and the Yanks won 1-0. "with a 1-0 score, i didn't to risk anything, so i decided to go to Mariano." said Girardi "CC was pitching well until then, but with a 1-0 lead, you don't really want to give up the tying run."
