Is a hitter's bat speed and power the same thing?

it has something to do with it along with bat angle relative to the balls traveling speed and angle. Adam Dunn to me looks like he doesnt swing to hard and his balls travel as far as someone like Gary Sheffeild. I always thought it has more to do with the pitch speed than bat speed though I may be wrong.

By generating bat speed you generate power. Just look at Alfonso Soriano, he isn't a big, powerful guy but he generates a lot of bat speed which makes him hit the ball over 400 feet. I wouldn't say bat speed and power are the same thing.

To answer your question; bat speed is one of the things that determind the amount of HRs a player hits.

Are the amount of HRs a player hits determined by how much bat speed he has?

There are many different factors that go into how far a baseball is hit.

Bat speed, pitch speed, bat angle in relative to the ball, follow-through, and muscle size.
