Kassie
Hi, I'm new to the game of baseball and have seen a couple of matches so far. Everytime the batter's stiked out, the catches throws the ball to his left side. Presumably the 3rd baseman. Why is that? Kassie
utahjazzno12fan
Generally, the catcher throws it as a way to keep the fielder's arms "warm." The term used is 'around the horn.' It will usually be thrown to each fielder except for the 1st Baseman. This also happens on ground outs and other plays which leaves no players on base. If a player is on base, they will not do this because the ball is "alive" and the runner can advance at their risk, especially if a ball is thrown away.
