Regular Season Over:

Maris 78

Mantle 63 and the 63rd just cleared the upper facade in right field. A school kid found the ball at 123 River Ave. Also, someone with an 8MM caught it on tape in color. He produced a little bit jerky camera work (3 fps) and will hopefully send it to MVP mods. Not to top this but Tony Kubeck must have had his Wheaties the last day of the season because he hit one about 450 ft. and it just cleared the right field concrete wall between the bleachers and the right field seats. He was inspired by the Mick. This one also bounced around on River Ave and was retrieved by a hot dog vendor....... So in two days, a feat never achieved, two players (Yankees) have finally hit it out of Yankee Stadium.

The Pirates clinched first and the Braves are in as the wildcard.

Playoffs Begin!!! Hope we get to play in PaulW's Crosley (that's if the Reds make it).

Game 1 in the Bronx White Sox win 4-2 on great pitching by Pizzaro who had 8 strike outs and gave up no runs. The Mick went deep in the bottom of the ninth for the only 2 runs. Whitey gave up two runs on solo homers and was the loser.

Game 2, 50 degrees at the 1 PM Start: Yankee bats were quiet until the fourth when Tony Kubeck went deep to left center off of a high Pierce fastball. The Mick went way deep to the upper deck in left field to tie the game at 2. The Yanks exploded for 5 in the 6th with Roger doubling in two and Moose Skowron going deep to right. 8-2 at the end of 8. In the 9th the Sox got things going. Bud Daley was taken out with Luis Arroyo shakingly closing it out. Ralph Terry got the win. He went 7 and gave up 2 ER, struck out 3 and had no walks. Not to forget, but Elston went 3 for 4. Yogi is having it tough, 0 for 8 with 4 whiffs.

Series Tied at 1-1 and off to the Windy City.

Around the Playoffs:

Baltimore is up 2-0 over the Tigers!!! Wow an upset in the making

St. Louis 2-0 over the Pirates

Milwaukee Braves up 2-0 over the Reds.

Before we forget, Ralph Terry picked off Nellie Fox in game 2 who appeared sleeping on First!!! A rare event, a pickoff.

Game 3 at Comiskey (Cellular) : Yanks Win 9-8! The big bats were alive and Mantle is on fire (3rd homer of series) Ellie had a another 3 hit game with a homer. Kubek, Yogi and Johnny B Good Blanchard all homered.

Art Ditmar got the win in relief (one inning) and Lou eee Arroyo saved it.

  • 3 weeks later...

Wolrd Series is OVER! The Yanks lost the first two extra innings games against the Cards and then came back to win the next four. Game 6 - In the bottom of the ninth with the score tied, Mickey batting lefty, hit a screamer down the left field line for a double. Yogi followed with a liner into left and Mickey scored. It was fun ride. Thanks to the Classics Team. I'm off to 1967 to relieve the doldrums of the weakened Evil Empire, the Yankees in the late sixties. At least the music is pretty hip in the 67 mod and at batter walkups.
