The Ultimate Rap Thread

Fastflink2009

Recommended Posts

I was recently thinking about how I barely have any rap tracks on my Ipod. So I have been trying to find some great rap, the rap that you turn the bass all the way up on and Rap like that. So I've made this thread. Post your favorite rap tracks not the best of all time (This is not like Kriegz's Top 100 Hip Hop songs of all time thread), but your personal favorites. Hopefully we can get a ton of stuff on here for everyone. I'll start with mine...

Fresh Azimiz - Bow Wow

Chunk up a Deuce - Swishahouse ft. Paul Wall

Make it Rain - Fat Joe ft. Lil Wayne

Get Ya Hustle On - Juvenile

Ambition as a Ridah - 2Pac

Everyday I'm Hustlin' - Rick Ross

Pearly Gates - Mobb Deep ft. 50 Cent

Post your stuff guys!

On the wide scale of things, there aren't very many rap songs in existence. Plenty of rap tracks, but not many rap songs.

Anyway, it's easy to list good rap tracks. Good hip hop tracks, however, are much harder to find, and are really only open to a select community.

Might take you a while to read, but here's the stuff that's in my My Music folder. Not included the stuff in other locations, like tracks that haven't been sorted yet.

Some of it's rap, some is hip-hop, some is other, some is a mix of them both...or other, as well.

If you want relatively new stuff, check out Akon - Senegal, Fort Minor - Kenji and Remember The Name, Busta Rhymes & Dr. Dre - Look Who, anything from Lupe Fiasco's new album and Mos Def - The Rape Over. Albums wise, just check the classics. 2Pac's albums, the old school stuff, (KRS-One, Run-DMC...any decent hip-hop site will have a list), KRS-One's Keep Right album is solid, Brand Nubian, Mos Def, Gang Starr, Masta Ace's A Long Hot Summer, EPMD, Big L, Jurassic 5, Wu-Tang Clan...too many to list. It's 3:40am here, and I need to get some sleep. If you want banging beats, look no further than the current southern rap/crunk movement that's infesting rap as I type. If you want lyrical genius, avoid it like the plague.

The new music that's coming out is turning out quite well as someone had the great idea (and not a moment too soon - most people with a brain stem were thinking this the moment crunk became a household name) of combining those banging beats with rappers who actually had half a clue what they were talking about. Before now, they tried it, but the production was generally terrible, which meant great beats, good lyrics, and horrible tracks because either the producers didn't know, care or think about the intentions of the lyricists, or the lyricists just went way over their bar quota and ended up rapping on the part of the track that was intended to be the hook...or had more happening in the track than could effectively be listened to. Thus, we are now seeing good lyrics combined with attractive beats and good production, which makes good tracks.

Hooray! :hail:

Right in time for the world to end. OK, send us the nuclear weapons!

(Hip-hop news site: allhiphop.com. Has a few of the latest tracks at the bottom of the front page, as well as the latest news in the hip-hop world as it happens. Check out streethop.com as well.)

Finally, here's my not-so-recent CD list ripped directly from my site...hence the nasty layout. No way am I bolding the artist names at this time in the morning.

Not at all, Bama. I like the south...when they actually know what it is they're trying to say on the tracks. When an infant can slaughter you on the usage of the English language in music, it doesn't make for a very good track. :)

Oh, check out Proof's only album as well, Searching For Jerry Garcia. Shows some of the promise he had as an MC.

I believe its "da durrty souff"

and being from 'da A-T-L' (as the kids say now a days) i'm embarassed at my lack of knowledge with regard to the english language, and me spelling 'da durrty souff' wrong. My apologies.

 The wierd thing is, I live in Canada, and we have black, brown, white, and chinese kids all talking like that. Its a sad day when our role models are respected for lacking knowledge

(not hating on rap or anything, I'm a fan)

Quote of the day. It's suddenly become "cool" to be either dumb, or ignorant - or even worse, both, for some reason.

Yeah I totally agree, you should listen to Pearly Gates by Mobb Deep and 50 Cent. It is really interesting what they say about heaven and hell

you should also listen to visa versa by pastor troy, that's really interesting about heaven and hell. "what if heaven was hell and visa versa"... great song.

You wouldnt believe what I saw today. I was at the mall during my lunch break and standing there smoking were a group of kids who I could've sworn were still in elemntary school. All of them were wearing clothes that would have been big for me (I'm 6'0 230 lbs). Later, as I;m about to leave I see the same kids half running-half keeping their pants up spraying silly string in all directions even hitting an older couple. I wanted to slap the **** out of them. I wonder what this world is coming to sometimes.
