Cincinnati Reds (18-9) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (21-8)

Bronson Arroyo (3-2, 3.91) vs. James Mueller (5-0, 0.60)

The first game of May will be a battle of the top two in the NL Central. The Cardinals just two games against the Reds after a stellar first month. James Mueller looks to continue his undefeated success as him and a 5-star caliber defense take on the 4-star rated offense in their hunt for the NL Central title.

Bottom of the fourth, Colby Rasmus slaps a ball over the third basemen's head to score Albert Pujols from third. Chris Duncan advances to second on the one-out single. With two outs, Wily Mo Pena hits a three-run homerun to put the Cardinals up 4-0. Before the inning, the Cards only had 1 hit on Bronson Arroyo.

An Albert Pujols double, his second of the game, drives in Adam Kennedy. Chris Duncan follows with a two-run homerun over the right field fence. 7-0 Cardinals.

Troy Glaus opens up the 7th, and a new pitcher's outing, with a solo homerun to center. 8-0.

Albert Pujols hit his 3rd double of the game in the 8th... btw, he's batting .440 at the beginning of the game, now going 3-4 tonight.

Bottom of the 8th; Yadier Molina drives in the ninth run of the game on a double, scoring Glaus from first. After a wild pitch to the backstop, letting Molina advance to third, a bloop single by James Mueller drives in the tenth run.

Top of the ninth, Cliff Floyd goes yard off of Mueller to open the inning. Brandon Phillips got a single right after. Adam Dunn line's out right back at Mueller, he threw to first to cut off Phillips for the double play. Ken Griffey Jr. follows with a single. A hard hit ball to the wall right after would be caught by a spectacular Wily Mo Pena to end the game for Mueller.

James Mueller struck out 3 in the 1-run, 6-hit affair. Cardinals win, 10-1.

Philadelphia Phillies (20-13) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (25-9)

Adam Eaten (2-1, 4.05) vs. James Mueller (6-0, 0.67)

James Mueller struck out the first batter he faced in the game.... and the second batter.

Adam Kennedy opened the game for the offense with a lead-off triple on the first pitch. Pujols singled to right with one to drive him in.

Bottom of the 3rd, Chris Duncan pulls a pitch to the right field upper deck, barely clearing the foul pole for a solo-homerun. Cards up 2-0.

Top of the fourth, James Mueller struck out the side.

Bottom of the fourth, after a double and a wild pitch, Colby Rasmus scores from third on what should've been a ground-out turns into a throwing error to first by Ryan Ludwick. Cardinals were unable to capitalize on two runners in scoring position with one out. 3-0.

After giving up a lead-off hit, Mueller was replaced with closer Eric Gagne in the top of the ninth. After Ludwick dropped a fly ball in foul territory, Chase Utley singled to center, moving Howard to third. A deep fly ball is caught, but deep enough to score Ryan Howard. Eric Gagne managed to get the double play with one out to end the threat. Cardinals won, 3-1.

James Mueller pitched 8 innings, giving up 5 hits, striking out 8, and giving up one earned run. He picks up win #7. He also went 1-3 at the plate, adding no other stats to his resume.

St. Louis Cardinals (28-11) vs. San Diego Padres (21-18)

James Mueller (7-0, 0.73) vs. Justin Germano (3-1, 3.43)

During the first inning, James Mueller was spotted in the dugout listening to his iPod on a pair of over-sized headphones. With his eyes closed he was slouching back in the bench, twirling his head a little and silently singing to himself, all while rolling a baseball in his pitching hand. This is perhaps a rare glance at what Mueller does to prepare for a start. After the third out, Wainwright slapped his knee and Mueller's eyes opened and he hopped out of the dugout ready to go.

Mueller struck out the 3rd batter, the second out after an error by shortstop Edgar Renteria.

Mueller gave up his first hit in the third inning, to the opposing pitcher.

In the bottom of the fourth, Craig Monroe hit a solo-shot off of James Mueller to right field. Mueller crouched down on the mound and then shot up after it landed. Mueller shook his head as Monroe rounded the bases. Padres up, 0-1.

Top of the sixth, after Mueller struck out the side in the fifth, Troy Glaus hit a single to center, scoring Edgar Renteria from third base. Pujols advances to second, with one out. Colby Rasmus follows with a bases clearing triple, his second triple of the night, scoring Glaus & Pujols. After intentionally walking Skip Schumaker, a bloop single by Jason Kendall scores Rasmus. James Mueller followed with a single to juice the bases full. Adam Kennedy lines into a double play. Cardinals up 4-1.

Albert Pujols CRUSHES ball, almost over the Western Metal Supply building in left field for a solo-homerun. Cards up 5-1.

Top of the 8th, Rasmus hits his third triple of the game. James Mueller's one-out line-drive single to right would score Rasmus easily. Schumaker advances to second. Kennedy's single to center scores Schumaker from second, Mueller to second. On a potential double play ball, Kennedy breaks it up by sliding into the second basemen. James Mueller was aware enough to score on the fielder's choice all the way from second. Pujols tacks on a two-run homerun, scoring Renteria. 10-1 Cardinals.

James Mueller picked up the 10-1 win, giving up only 2 hits on 1 earned run. He struck out 7.

Mueller also went 2-4 at the plate, scoring once and picking up an RBI.
