Mueller will continue his dominating show on the road against the Isotopes tonight.

He gave up his first hit in the bottom of the fifth.

It wasn't until the 8th that the RedBirds finally strung together some hits, after getting 8 in the previous 7 innings, to finally get on the board after a two run double by Josh Phelps. Another single would send Phelps in to score from second, to put memphis up 3-0.

For the second straight game, Mueller pitched a 1-hit shutout, this time striking out ten.

James Mueller gave up a single in his first at-bat of the game against the Iowa Cubs.

With zero outs and runners on the corner, Mueller found himself in a jam with runners on the corners, and with only a 2 run lead. He got the first out on a strikeout. A deep enough fly ball would score a run on a sacrifice fly for the second out. He then got a ground-ball for out three. This was the first run given up by Mueller in, I think, four starts atleast.

Mueller struck out the last batter he faced. He pitched another complete game, this time a 1-run 3-hit game. He struck out 7, and it was win #20 of his minor league season.

Today's the last game of the regular season for the Triple-A Memphis RedBirds. James Mueller, they're extraordinary ace, takes the mound tonight against the Nashville Sounds.

Another stellar performance from James Mueller... Nine complete innings of shut-out baseball once again. He only managed to strike out four, but he also only gave up four runs. The RedBirds won, 5-0. Mueller also went 1-3 at the plate.

Cardinals lost their 4 game lead at the beginning of September to the Pirates, who won the NL Central just 2 games ahead of the Cardinals. The Cardinals, however, did make it to the playoffs, just 2 games ahead of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Wild Card spot.

The Cardinals will take on the Braves in the quarter finals, as the Pirates take on the Rockies. Over in the AL, Red Sox vs. Rangers, and Tigers vs. Yankees.

In Triple-A, our hero James Mueller will lead the playoff surge against the River Cats in the semifinals.

In Double-A, The Springfield Cardinals will take on the San Antonio Missions.

Memphis Red Birds vs. Sacramento River Cats

James Mueller vs. Chris Gaudin[/align]

James Mueller takes the mound tonight against the Sacramento RiverCats in the first round of the Triple-A playoffs.

Last time Mueller faced the River Cats, Mueller struck out 16 batters in a complete game shut-out, where the Memphis offense had scored 17 times. The Red Birds try to repeat that feat tonight.

Notable Game Moments:

Both Mueller & Gaudin pitched a 1-2-3 first inning.

2nd Inning: The defense turned a double-play after Brian Barden threw an error to first, letting a batter reach.

In the top of the third, Eli Marraero broke Gaudin's no-hit bid with a single.

Mueller picked up his first K in the bottom of the 3rd. After that, a batter broke his no-hit bid as well. After a second strike-out, Brian Barton misplays a ball in left-field. A run scores on a double, putting Sacramento ahead 1-0.

Bottom of the 4th, Mueller snagged a line-drive aimed at his head.

Bottom of the 5th, Mueller snagged another line-drive aimed for his face.

Top of the 7th, Red Birds with two runners on and no outs, failed to capitalize on the opportunity. Still 1-0 River Cats.

Bottom of the 7th with two outs, Mueller allows 3 consecutive hits to fall 2-0. Mueller struck out the 3rd out.

Gaudin pitches a complete game shut-out against the Red Birds, he did not strike out a single batter. Mueller pitched 8 innings, a complete game for the road team. He gave up 5 hits, 2 earned runs, and struck out 6. A solid outing, but not solid enough.

In the second game of the series, Memphis won 3-2.

In the third game of the series, Memphis won 5-1 to take the series. Memphis advances to the Championship round.

The Memphis Red Birds won the first game against the Portland Beavers.

James Mueller takes Game 2 tonight against them, the Red Birds defending a 1-0 lead in the series after taking Game 1.

First inning, James Mueller strikes out the first batter he faces.

Bottom of the first, Brian Barton opens the game for the Red Birds with a basehit. D'Angelo Jimenez follows him with an infield single. Colby Rasmus grounds into a 5-3 double play.

Bottom of the 3rd, James Mueller appears to be upset that his offense wasn't producing for the second straight start he has had, so he decided to give himself some boost. He terrorized an inside pitched out of the park for a solo-shot, giving Memphis a 1-0 lead. Mueller walked into the dugout, firing up his team. Afterwards, Colby Rasmus doubled in another run to make it 2-0.

After giving up two straight hits and a mound visit in the top of the 4th, Mueller gets a double play to end the threat.

Shelley Duncan hits a deep double to right-center to score a run, making it 3-0. After advancing to 3rd on the throw, Eli Marrareo knocks him in on an infield single, just off the glove of the 3rd basemen, making it 4-0.

A line-drive off Mueller's head knocked him down to the mound in the top of the fifth. After some medical attention, Mueller was cleared to resume pitching, surprising everyone in attendance and listening in on the game.

Bottom of the 5th, Colby Rasmus hits a two-run homerun after a D'Angelo Jimeniz single to put Memphis up 6-0.

Between the 6th and 7th innings, Mueller said he "popped enough ibuprofen to where he couldn't even feel a gunshot in his head, let alone the line-drive."

Mueller, who was all smiles afterwards, didn't appear to lose a step while pitching. Perhaps because of the ibuprofen, Mueller became more relaxed. He managed to strike out another batter in the top of the 7th, after giving up just his third hit of the game. He then got a basehit in the bottom of the 7th, going 2-3 so far. After Jimeniz grounded into a fielder's choice, where Mueller was declared out, James Mueller retreated to the dugout. However, he went to his opponent's dugout and talked to some of their players before the inning was over. He even cheered for his team when Travis Hansen hit a two-run double with two outs. Then, Josh Phelps hit a two-run jack to put the Red Birds up 10-0.

In the top of the 8th, Mueller barely ducked another line-drive aimed for a his face.

Top of the ninth had another scare, another line-drive buzzing past Mueller's head. After giving up another hit after that to put runners on the corners, Mueller got the 3rd out to end the game on a line-drive to right field.

Mueller finished the complete game shut-out, giving up 7 hits will striking out 8. Red Birds won, 10-0.

Tonight, James Mueller and the St. Louis Cardinals will battle Jeff Weaver and the Milwaukee Brewers. It'll be an interesting match-up.

It'll be Mueller's first home start on the year...

Milwaukee Brewers (4-4) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (6-3)

Top of the first, Mueller goes 1-2-3 against the 4-star rated Brewer offense.

Bottom of the first, Dan Uggla hit's a solo-homer to deep straight away center field to open up the Cardinals offense.

Top of the second, Mueller strikes out Bill Hall for the first K of the game.

Bottom of the second, Mueller singles through the gap between 2nd and 1st. Colby Rasmus races from second to home, barely beating the throw to score. 2-0 Cards. Mueller would later use his speed to steal 2nd base off of catcher Anderson, not known for his strong arm.

Bottom of the third, Dan Uggla hits another solo homerun, again to straight center field, his 4th on the season. Albert Pujols tees off his second of the season, making it back-to-back homeruns. Chris Duncan makes it back-to-back-to-back. Jeff Weaver hangs a breaking ball inside, making it easy for Duncan. Two outs later, Colby Rasmus hits a solo-shot over the left field wall, going opposite way, his sixth homerun of the season, 16th RBI. Edgar Renteria hits one opposite way over the right field fence to make it a back-to-back effort for the second time this inning. Cardinals tack on 5 to make it 7-0.

Top of 4th, Ryan Freel ends Mueller's no-hit bid with a single straight up the middle, buzzing past Mueller.

Bottom of the 4th, Dan Uggla hits a triple off the right field fence, just a couple feet shy of being the third homerun of the game for him. Bobby Abreu's dive for a Pujols' line-drive misses, letting Uggla score easily, and Pujols reaching 3rd base. Duncan sac flies out to deep center, Pujols scores uncontested.

Bottom of the sixth, Pujols is beaned in the back on the first pitch that was delivered to him.

Top of the seventh, Prince Fielder was beaned in the back by James Mueller. Prince started yelling at Mueller, but Mueller just turned around and started tossing around the Rosin bag, ignoring him. However, Bill Hall would strike revenge with a 2-run homerun, his first of the season, to make it 9-2.

Bottom of the seventh, Troy Glaus let the Brewers know how he felt about it, and hit a solo shot of his own to make it 10-2 Cardinals. Colby Rasmus later hits a single, making him a double shy of the cycle.

James Mueller would stay out for the complete game victory. Cardinals and Mueller win, 10-2. James Mueller struck out 9, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. He is now 2-0 with an ERA of 1.50.

Top of the seventh, Yadier Molina ends a batting drought, with two outs. He doubles off the left-center wall to score Troy Glaus from first. 11-0 cardinals.

Bottom of the seventh, Kelly Johnson ends Mueller's perfect-game bid with a double to deep left center. It was 18 consecutive outs for Mueller before then. The runner would not score as Mueller shuts down the threat.

***Dave Duncan took Yadier Molina and James Mueller aside after the inning in the dugout. It is unknown what was said, but an upset Molina slammed his glove down on the bench before going back to the locker room as Jason Kendall was instructed to suit up. Mueller was seen shaking his head. This was possibly due to a disagreement in playcalling between Dave Duncan's strategy and what James Mueller was doing after giving up the base-hit.

Top of the ninth, Wily Mo Pena doubled to center, knocking in Troy Glaus from first. James Mueller hits the fourth consecutive hit of the inning, knocking in Pena from third on a single, moving Kendall over to second. There Was Some Controversy after the Game...

James Mueller was being questioned by press after the game, after congratulating him on his 3rd straight complete game since being called up from the Minors. Mueller thanked them at first, then became defensive.

When asked what happened in the dug-out between him, Molina, and pitching coach Dave Duncan, Mueller replied with a shrug and said "Nothing really, we had a chat about the NHL playoffs coming up. Duncan's a Red Wings fan, me and Molina are Blues fan, so you can understand the disgust we had in the dugout."

Obviously avoiding the question, Mueller was refusing to officially comment on the altercation, though it was told by an inside source that it was over the playcalling, that Molina and Mueller were going renegade against Duncan's plans. James Mueller seems to be the only pitcher who is "given" free range on his pitching selection and location in the games, often going high and tight with fastballs, and even high with change-ups, which is a Dave Duncan no-no.

When asked about his success, however, Mueller did answer it, though avoided the real question. "Well, I know my stats look good on paper, but so far I've pitched against some struggling offenses. You look at the guys that pitched the day before me, they've dominated as well. I do know you can't give me more credit then the team behind me in the game. They brought the bats and the gloves to the games I've pitched, and I'm appreciative of that."

Bottom of the fifth, Albert Pujols simply crushes a ball over the center field wall, for a 2-0 lead, his 11th homerun of the month.

Top of the seventh, Mueller got two runners on first and second and no outs. After a deep fly ball, it was one out with runners on the corner. Mueller gets the 3-6-1 double play to end the inning.

On a deep fly ball to right by Yadi', Troy Glaus tags up from third to score. Immediately after, Colby Rasmus hits a triple. Cards up 3-0.
