mcoll86
has anyone tried to if mvp05 could run in a vm of win7. As im wondering if it would, would it be best to run it on a true windows 7 system or xp. OneSeasonWonder
If you're trying to run it in a VM, Windows XP would be your best bet. You would have to manually install all of the drivers for direct X and such though. I run the game now using Win 10 and with a program called DGVoodoo2 and it works you just have to configure your settings and make sure you run as administrator in compatibility mode XP service pack 3. Kccitystar
I believe your best bet is to play on a native system. VMs do not allow passthrough GPU support so it can use the host GPU for 3D Quote Link to comment https://www.mvpmods.com/forums/topic/76146-running-in-a-vm/#findComment-716590 Share on other sites

There is a utility called SafeDiscShim that recreates the "handshake" the DRM makes between your PC and the discs so the game can work, along with dgVoodoo2 that spoofs earlier DX 8 graphics cards since the newer GPUs won't work Quote Link to comment https://www.mvpmods.com/forums/topic/76146-running-in-a-vm/#findComment-716609 Share on other sites

I've always played this game without any problems and without any additional programs. My PC specs are: Intel processor with Intel® UHD Graphics 630 GPU, but I'm currently using an NVIDIA graphics card. 24 minutes ago, Kccitystar said: There is a utility called SafeDiscShim that recreates the "handshake" the DRM makes between your PC and the discs so the game can work, along with dgVoodoo2 that spoofs earlier DX 8 graphics cards since the newer GPUs won't work Last time I checked, the Intel Iris Xe graphics card wasn't working. It's supposed to emulate a handful of cards, I think the Radeon 8500, GeForce 4 Ti 4800, Geforce FX 5700 Ultra and 9800 GT are in the list Quote Link to comment https://www.mvpmods.com/forums/topic/76146-running-in-a-vm/#findComment-716613 Share on other sites

Yes, but I've never had any problems running the game. Even so, many of my friends are having this problem. I'm just curious on how this is possible given that the DRM required for the game to work has been removed since Windows 7 on the OS level. Actually, nevermind, I won't even ask. There's a tutorial on our site here for working with dgVoodoo2. Check the forums. I don't know what to say about this, because in Latin America around 90% of the people who play this game use Windows 10 or 11. Some people have had problems, but it's only a minority. Thank you! Any way. Quote Link to comment https://www.mvpmods.com/forums/topic/76146-running-in-a-vm/#findComment-716620 Share on other sites
SPDouglas616
I was pretty successful in running MVP on Win7, 10 and 11 on various computers up through my 2019 Helios Predator 300 laptop. Since I upgraded to to a new PC with a GTX 5060, however, it has failed to run MVP past the start screen before crashing, even with all of the Windows 11 fixes applied. At one point a few years ago, I had a VM set up with XP and MVP with its original modding programs and used it to create cyberfaces, but I would truly have no idea how to go about setting it all up again. But it is certainly possible if you are patient enough. I am likely going to just acquire a native XP laptop soon as we just seem to be getting to the bottom of the barrel on MVP compatibility even with SafeDiscShim and dgvoodoo. I've got the base game working, the 97 total classics mod and the mvp 08 total conversion mod. I haven't been able to get mvp 15 or the new mvp 98 to work. I used to have the game running on a win 7 partition on my old PC but it is a pain going from one os to another on a dual boot system. The only other issue I've had is that either my dvd drive is knackered or cd 2 is worn as sometimes my PC refuses to acknowledge that there is a disk in the dvd drive. Also, in the time since I last played I've become useless at hitting!
