I want to find out what pitchers made it for the AL because if the indians don't have CC Sabathia and Jake Westbrook voted in, i am not watching the all star game because they are 3 and 4 in ERA in the AL. Victor Martinez also deserves to be there, he has quickly become one of the better catchers in the AL :D

Pretty much the same reason Nomar, Delgado, and Giambi are currently leading in votes... because the All-Star voting is a popularity contest and most fans are idiots.

Victor Martinez and C.C. Sabathia should both be in the All-Star game. Martinez has been hitting as well as Pudge and Sabathia has been unhittable of late. Frank Thomas, Mark Buehrle, and Juan Uribe on the White Sox should all make it. Frank Thomas is tearing the ball up and there is no way Giambi should be there instead of him. It should be David Ortiz and Frank Thomas at 1B for the A.L. Juan Uribe should be selected as a reserve 2B by Torre. Afterall, he can play SS, 2B, and 3B!

Kent and Everett are leading because the all-star game is in Houston so the fans there are paying more attention to the voting so they're getting their players into the game. I still think they should do it like the NFL. 1/3 vote is fans, 1/3 vote is players, 1/3 vote is coaches. The fans have their voice, but since most of them are idiots they aren't always going to get there way(Like Nomar and such). Anyway, just because I'm bored, I'm going to post who I think should be the allstar starters

AL

---

C - Victor Martinez

1B - David Ortiz

2B - Alfonso Soriano

SS - Michael Young

3B - Alex Rodriguez

OF - Ichiro

OF - Carl Crawford

OF - Vladimir Guerrero

NL

---

C - Johnny Estrada

1B - Todd Helton

2B - Mark Loretta

SS - Jack Wilson

3B - Scott Rolen

OF - Scott Podsednik

OF - Ken Griffey Jr.

OF - Moises Alou

Man I hate Rolen more this year than most. I think Aramis Ramirez totally deserves the all-star game this year, unforunately Rolen is doing slightly better. But to think Aramis is even better than Rolen in the field this year so far. Damn you Scott Rolen.

All-Star Game Starters in my opinion...

C - Ivan Rodriguez w/ Victor Martinez a close 2nd

1B - David Ortiz w/ Frank Thomas a close 2nd

2B - Juan Uribe w/ Alfonso Soriano a close 2nd

SS - Carlos Guillen OR Michael Young / tough choice here!

3B - Alex Rodriguez

OF - Vladimir Guerrero

OF - Manny Ramirez

OF - Carlos Beltran

NL

---

C - Johnny Estrada /w Mike Piazza the starter if you still consider him a C instead of a 1B

1B - Albert Pujols

2B - Jeff Kent

SS - Jack Wilson

3B - Scott Rolen

OF - Barry Bonds

OF - Lance Berkman

OF - Bobby Abreu

Even though I am an indians fan, I belive Uribe deserves it because he has played great this season. Jake Westbrook should at least be a reserve, he has pitched 2 complete game shutouts, one of them only giving up one hit. He is 4th in the AL in ERA. Thats a pretty decent resamay. I think that most of these guys are just starting to play good this season, and the fans that only care about the superstars will start to get respect for them when they keep it up either in the playoffs or in next season.

All I can say is good luck to you AL Central fans, I can guarantee Joe Torre will pick his own guys, even if they are stinking up the joint. Watch Enrique Wilson beat out Uribe. :?

I know, it's sad. Torre hates Big Hurt and will pick Giambi instead if Ortiz wins the voting (which he should). It should be an obvious choice. Besides, Giambi is a roided up freak who is always injured because of it.

If all these no-name guys make the team then nobody will watch the allstar game. Thats why its ok that Derek Jeter and Nomar are leading the voting. They put fans in the seats and glue butts to the couch to watch the game.

I see your point, A lot of those stars have paid their dues and put up consistent numbers throughout their career.

but this game should be played with the best team possible as of 2004, The Winner of the All star game gets homefield advantage during the world series, That is why i dont like a lot of the players on the team.

I hardly think Frank Thomas is a no name player though lolz, i just dont want to see a blowout

Agreed. I hope IamTheMick7 didn't mean that Frank Thomas was a "no-name player". He has been a much butter player in his whole career than either "steroid-freak" Giambi or Ortiz. Frank Thomas will make it to the Hall of Fame when he retires. Take a look at his career numbers...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?statsId=4527

That said, I still think David Ortiz should start the All-Star Game. Ortiz has alot more RBIs than Thomas but the Big Hurt beats Ortiz in many other stats. Thomas should be a close second as the starting 1B but better make the reserve. However, I have a feeling that Torre will pick his boy Giambi as the reserve, if he doesn't win the voting of course. :banghead:

what about carlos guillen? I think he should definitely be on the all-star team, if not starting.

Agreed. He is statistically neck and neck with Michael Young at SS. The fan voting is a joke... Nomar and Jeter? Give me a break. :x

Almost a toss-up as to who should start. Both should make it of course but with idiots voting for Nomar and Jeter, who knows?

well, I did vote for Nomar, only cuz i'm a boston fan, but my first vote was for Guillen. I have him on a fantasy team of mine, so I've watched his stats all year long, and he's having a pretty amazing year and is a big part of the Tiger turnaround.

As far as Jeter is concerned, he's having a horrible year for what I would consider a good shortstop.. .259 avg or something like that? Not very solid at all. I definitely think it should be Guillen and Young at this point.

Jeter has actually started to hit well lately after his horrible start to the season. Afterall, he was batting around .150 for awhile there and had an 0 for 32 streak.

Regardless, these are definately not All-Star caliber numbers. Young and Guillen should be there at SS, not Nomar and Jeter. Nomar has 39 at bats this season for f*cks-sakes!!! :banghead: Vote for Manny and Ortiz, not Nomar.

I had a real hard time not voting for Barrett and Ramirez. I might change Estrada to Barrett, but Rolen leads in RBIs by far so I felt I had to put him in there. And I didn't put Bonds in there because I just don't like him. I'd rather not this thread turn into a Bonds argument though.

As for starters, in the NL it'd be a close race between Zambrano and Schmidt, though in reality it'll come down to Johnson and Clemens, which I'd have no complaints about. In the AL.. hmm... I'd probably have to say Schilling.. maybe Mulder.

Voting this year was really hard. Barrett and Estrada were both so close. And Pujols/Helton was really hard. I ended up choosing Helton because Pujols is a Cardinal. Guillen and Young was a hard choice too. I ended up feeling Young deserved it for doing what he has while filling in for A-Rod, same with Estrada and Javy Lopez. I'm also more inclined to pick an average/speed guy over a power hitter, hence me picking Podsednik, Ichiro, and Crawford. I also found the NL 2B the hardest position to pick, because its the weakeset position. Heck I'm almost picked Todd Walker but felt Loretta deserved it. The only two 'stars' at the position haven't had the best seasons IMO, being Kent and Castillo.

And there's no way Todd Walker should beat out Jeff Kent as the starter, especially when the All-Star Game is in Houston. Besides, Kent and Loretta have both been better than Walker.

The Cubs should have 4 All-Stars: Alou, Ramirez, Barrett, and Zambrano with only Zambrano possibly starting the game for the N.L. Sosa being an All-Star and starting is a joke. Hell, Alou should start before Sosa does.

TribeTime26, in the end I think Victor Martinez and C.C. Sabathia will make it with a flier on Jake Westbrook (doubtful). The rest of the players you mentioned already have too much better competition at their position. Both Lawton and Belliard have played great (particularly against the White Sox  ) but there are too many better 2B and OF in the A.L. for them to make it. For example, Juan Uribe, has been better than Belliard and he may not even make it. :banghead:
