Advantages of GIMP?

Recommended Posts

Umm GIMP is a free alternative to Photoshop, it will do everything a normal home user would dream of so I dont understand why some many people download photoshop illegally. or even buy it, unless you are a pro GIMP will work.

EDIT: You wouldnt want to use GIMP for certain office tasks such as publications. I wouldnt know if i can confirm this but its wat ive read.

EDIT AGAIN: GIMP is alot faster program and is only like 10 megs if that to download including the GTK runtime.

I prefer GIMP but use Photoshop because I know it better.

I just got GIMP 2.2 because I was tired of my old Paint Shop Pro 7 and I didn't have the money for Photoshop. However, I have a few questions.

1. I am not sure what format to save in. My old stuff is all in .psp files, can GIMP open them? And what format would you recommend?

2. Are there any cool add-ons or expansions that I would want?

3. Is there any way to combine those annoying two windows so I don't have to keep switching back and forth?

Thanks

Yes, Gimp can open .psp files. Some sites you might want to take a look at:

GimpShop: http://gimpshopdotnet.blogspot.com/

Gimp.org: http://www.gimp.org/

Gimp User Manual: http://docs.gimp.org/en/

*Just as with photoshop, there are hundreds of tutorial sites for Gimp on the net. Just google.

In the Windows version, GIMPshop uses a plugin called 'Deweirdifier' to combine the application's numerous windows in a similar manner to the MDI system used by most Windows graphics packages.

Does anyone know if this works? And a good site to get GIMP brushes and accessories?
