Hello - I am a computer illiterate who can't get MLB2K up and running on my PC. It's extremely slow and operating in safe mode. Here is what I'm working with:

Microsoft Windows XP (Home Edition), 5.1 build 2600

Version 2002

Service pack 3

eMachines T2895

Intel Celeron CPU 2.80 GHz

2.80 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

DirectX Version 9.0 (4.09.0000.0904)

Not sure what my video card situation is.

Do I need to upgrade or get a video card? Is playing this game hopeless on this computer?

Thanks in advance....

Intel Celeron CPU 2.80 GHz - This CPU isn't gonna cut it, because it's a Celeron.

2.80 GHz, 512 MB of RAM - That isn't gonna cut it either, because it's not enough and judging by your other specs, your RAM is probably slow.

DirectX Version 9.0 (4.09.0000.0904)

Not sure what my video card situation is.

Do I need to upgrade or get a video card? Is playing this game hopeless on this computer? Maybe, when did you get that computer ? Your GPU ( graphics card ) is probably integrated and isn't gonna attempt to run the game. In my opinion, the game isn't worth playing anyway, but if you wanna play, ****, it's your prerogative. I just wouldn't go spendin' a lot of money to play it.

Thanks in advance....

I don't think it's going to work. The graphics chip only has 64MB of vRAM according to dxdiag.

That 845G graphics controller is going to hurt. Along with the RAM and processor.

Not to mention it's Socket 478 (2 generations behind) and probably AGP with a weak power supply.

Here's an idea. Go to the 2K website and find the home page for 2k9 baseball. Look at the system requirements they have there. Your questions will be answered.

Unfortunately, how is a user going to know that a Celeron is a poor CPU for playing current games? That Intel integrated graphics is completely out of the question for said games also? Not enough people have enough familiarity with hardware trends to know how their system will hold up without having to start a thread in a forum.

Especially when the featured game on this site is many years old when unified shader powered multicore computing on a consumer level was just beginning.

Actually, an Intel Integrated Graphics Card can play the game. I have an Intel GMA 4500 graphics card which has Shader 3.0 support and it plays the game. Of course some of my settings are pretty low, but I can still play it.

Okay, not all Intel integrated stuff...but still I'd prefer a separate graphics card for desktop use (jay, are you using a laptop?) as from what I've read the x4500 and others in its generation is still appears to be underpowered for good gaming experience for newer releases.

That said, the OP's whole computer is likely an aging machine.

Yes, it is a laptop. I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6905. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6400 at 2.0 GHz per core, 3 GB of Ram, a 320 GB Hard Drive, the Intel Integrated Graphics, an 802.11 b/g/n wireless, and a 9 cell battery. I have found it works ok for Gaming, and even on the low settings, the graphics are still better than MVP (although I still love that game as well.)
