Game 2: Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Braves Back on Track

The Braves look to be back on track with a 5-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the second game of the series. John Smoltz pitched a killer game for the Braves tonight going eight strong innings giving up only one run on seven hits and recording seven strikeouts. He improved his record to 2-1 on the year while Randy Wolf, who pitched for the Phils, fell to 0-2 on the year.

The Braves and the Phillies both scored one run in the third innings. The Braves scored on a RBI triple by Pete Orr that drove in John Smoltz who hit a double(0-1). The Phillies scored their lone run that inning on a solo homer by David Bell(1-1).

The Braves scored again in the fifth inning on a RBI single by Orr to drive in Brian Jordan(1-2), and on a three-run homer by Andruw Jones(1-5).

The Phillies scored tried to rally in the ninth on a two-run homer by Jim Thome off of Adam Bernero(3-5).

But Dan Kolb was called in to get the final out of the game, and he did. He got a ground ball to first in which Kolb covered the bag and recieved the throw from Julio Franco to get his fifth save of the year.

The Braves are now 5-6 on the year while the Phils are 3-8.

Game 3: Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Braves Make it Two in a Row

The Braves ended their first series with the Phillies in good fashion with a 2-1 win. Today's game saw Mike Hampton pitch for the Braves and John Lieber pitch for the Phils. Hampton pitched a great game for the Braves going 6 1/3 innings giving up only one run on three hits and striking out four batters. Lieber didn't pitch too shabby himself going eight innings giving up two runs on six hits and striking out three.

The Phillies opened up scoring in the third on Chase Utley's second homer on the year putting the Phils up 1-0.

The Braves didn't score until the seventh, but they made the wait worthwhile. Marcus Giles and Andruw Jones both hit solo homers to put the Braves up 2-1.

This would be all that the Braves would need to get their sixth win on the year. Dan Kolb did the usual in the ninth, sitting down the Phillies' batters 1-2-3.

On an extra note, Andruw Jones had the play of the year so far for the Braves, throwing out Kenny Lofton who tried to score from second on a base hit up the middle. If Lofton had scored this run, he would have tied the game at 2-2.

The Braves are now 6-6 on the year while the Phillies are 3-9.

Game 1: Atlanta Braves vs. Houston Astros

The Braves finally snapped out of their offensive slump with a 14-4 win over the Houston Astros. Tim Hudson was the pitcher tonight for the Braves and Roger Clemens was the pitcher for the Astros.

The Braves started scoring right out of the gate with six runs in the first inning(6-0). The Astros responded with two, two-run homers in back-to-back innings off of Hudson(6-4). This would be all that the Astros would score.

The Braves scored again in the fourth off of a two-run homer by Raul Mondesi(8-4). In the fifth, the Braves scored off of a three-run homer by Brian Jordan(11-4). The ninth proved to be another inning that the Braves would score in, with yet another homer in the game by Brian Jordan, this time it was a three-run jack(14-4).

The Braves finally have a winning record as they improve to 7-6 while the Astros fall to 7-5.

Game 2: Atlanta Braves vs. Houston Astros

Braves Win in 12: 3-1

The Braves won their first extra inning game of the year tonight 3-1. Andruw Jones was tonight's hero, his only hit of the game being the game-winning homer in the top of the 12th. Horacio Ramirez and Andy Pettite were the pitchers in tonight's game, and neither of them picked up a decision.

The Braves scored first, in the fourth, on a RBI single by Chipper Jones that drove in Tony Pena, who lead off the inning with a double(0-1). The Astros were quick to repond however, with a RBI double by Jason Lane in the bottom of the inning(1-1).

No one scored a run until the 12th, with Chipper Jones starting off the inning on a single off the left field wall. Andruw Jones stepped up to the plate, he didn't want to make his night an 0-for, so he went out with a bang. He hit a 427-foot homer out of the stadium to give the Braves a 3-1 lead and to give them their fourth straight win.

Kolb did his thing in the 12th, sitting the Astros down 1-2-3, capping it off with a K.

The Braves are now 8-6 while the Astros are 7-6.

Braves Make it 5 in a Row

The Braves continued their winning ways tonight with a 4-1 victory over the Nationals. John Thomson pitched tonight for the Braves while Zach Day pitched for the Nats. Thomson pitched a very good game en route to his first win of the year; going six innings and giving up one run on three hits and striking out five.

The Braves opened the scoring tonight with a RBI single by Adam LaRoche to bring in Marcus Giles(1-0). But the Nationals were quick to respond with a RBI double by Brad Wilkerson to drive in Christian Guzman(1-1).

The Braves were not content with a tied ballgame, so in the second the Braves scored on back-to-back RBI singles by Ryan Langerhans and John Thomson(3-1). And, they topped off their scoring in the fifth on a solo homer by Marcus Giles, his second of the year(4-1).

The Braves are now 9-6 on the year, while the Nationals are 4-11.

I have a big affection for the Rangers, since I stopped doing my Rangers Dynasty in MVP 03, I then bought 05 and here I am. I started my dynasty with the Braves, with the Rosters pretty current. The onlly thing I did was trade away some guys for top rookies. I got Capellan back, and I got Prince Fielder. My closers are Farnsworth, Urbina, and Gordon. No set closer. I DID get rid of Kolb though. I traded Mondesi away for Juan Gone.

In the event you enjoy bringing up your rookies and want them to have realistic faces, you should change McCann's face to Blalock's, you should change Marte's to either Mondesi's or Aparacio's, Davies should have Dave Delucci's face, and if you are tempted to get a fat kid on your team, give Prince Fielder Adrian Beltre's face and then go trade for the chubbs. Oh, and I chose to give Francouer Toms Seaver's face. But then again, you already started you season.

Quesiton. Will you be trading away Chipper, Andruw, or hampton for salary reasons. Just wondering since the Braves don't have many good rookies. It makes sense to trade those salaries away and try to get all top noche rooks.

haha i was the one that you quoted with the thing bout kolb being lights out in the game.... i dont wanna go into it too much cause this is Spiveys dynasty page but i mentioned i play one game a night along with the braves real schedule as playin more games makes me sick of the dynasty.... with settings on MVP default sliders in 43 games kolb has 20.2 IP 1-0 16 saves and a 0.44 ERA .... the cutter is deadly my man.

Quesiton. Will you be trading away Chipper, Andruw, or hampton for salary reasons. Just wondering since the Braves don't have many good rookies. It makes sense to trade those salaries away and try to get all top noche rooks.

I don't really know, actually I've never really thought about it. Hey, if I come to the point in which I need to dump some salary, I'll do exactly that.

Braves Lose Nail-biter 1-0

The Braves' winning streak ends at five games with a 1-0, pitcher's dual loss. John Smoltz pitched tonight for the Braves and Livan Hernandez pitched for the Nationals. John Smoltz pitched one heck of a ball game; going six innings and giving up only one run on three hits and striking out nine batters. But, he gave up one run too many as the Braves are unable to get a runner past second all night.

The Nationals lone run was scored, in the sixth inning, on a RBI double by Christian Guzman that drove in Brad Wilkerson, who in two at-bats earlier, hit a double. The Braves were unable to get anything going tonight as Hernandez pitched an awesome game.

The Braves are now 9-7 on the year, while the Nats are 5-11.

Braves Win Extra-Inning Thriller

The Braves have participated in two extra-inning games this year, and now they have won them both. With Ryan Langerhans, who struck out in a crucial pinch-hitting situation last game, getting the game-winner tonight for the Braves. Tonight's thriller saw Mike Hampton and John Lieber pitch for there respective ball clubs.

The Braves opened up the scoring in the third on a RBI single by Pete Orr that drove in Brian Jordan(1-0). The Phillies never gave up, though, with Tomas Perez getting the game-tying hit in the eighth inning off of Kevin Gryboski, who was in to relieve Hampton(1-1).

It was looking pretty dismal for the Braves until the 12th inning, when Eddie Perez started it all off with a single to right. Two batters later, Jordan hit another single to center to prolong the inning. Then came the pitcher's spot in the order, and manager Bobby Cox decided to go with Ryan Langerhans. "I just had a feeling that he would get the job done." said Cox, "And boy did he ever!" Langerhans gave the Braves their tenth win on the year with a RBI double to drive in Perez to win the game(2-1).

The Braves are now 10-7 on the year, while the Phillies are 5-12.
