Hollywood70 Posted June 4, 2005 Share Posted June 4, 2005 I've been happily playing MVP '05 for a couple of months now, but suddenly tonight, I can't play it anymore. My computer is overall running just fine, but when I start MVP, everything looks fine until after I click "start game".. Then, it nearly shuts down. The game crawls along, and only ever 20 seconds or so can I click a menu option. Even trying to let the demo play is futile, as it just sits and changes one frame every 20 or 30 seconds. Does anyone know what the heck I could have done to cause this? I uninstalled and reinstalled the game to no avail.. Gudraves Posted June 4, 2005 Share Posted June 4, 2005 Have you installed any new hardware or maybe updated any drivers??? You could try rolling back your drivers maybe, or even try updating the drivers as that might help the problem. Your system info might help us alittle more. Hollywood70 Posted June 4, 2005 Author Share Posted June 4, 2005 I haven't updated any hardware lately.. The only thing I've done is install the Firefox browser. I uninstalled that, but to no avail. My system: AMD Athlon XP 1700+ 1.46 GHz, 256 MB of RAM NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600 I actually was able to make it through the menu and into a game today, and here's how it looked: This just doesn't make any sense to me.. spitoon Posted June 4, 2005 Share Posted June 4, 2005 Wow, that's bad (obviously). I replied in your thread over at TPG that I had exactly that same problem with MVP 2004 a couple of times. It would move along at about 1 frame per 20 seconds...It actually turned out to me my controller believe it or not, uninstalled and reinstalled it and it worked fine. Now the problem with the graphics that you are showing seems to be a video card issue, either a bad driver or a dead card. I've disconnected my controller, reinstalled my video drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled the game. If my graphics card has gone bad, wouldn't the rest of my programs also be screwed up? The only thing that isn't working is MVP, and I'm able to view the intro videos, etc, just fine.. Nothing goes wrong until I get to the "click to start" screen.. Then everything starts to go nuts. Hollywood70 Posted June 4, 2005 Author Share Posted June 4, 2005 Ok.. I've been fooling around with some things, and I'm wondering if maybe I'm having a heat problem. I completely shut my computer off (somthing I rarely do) and let it sit for an hour.. Once I turned it back on, I was able to start up the game and played 1 and a half innings before it started to go flaky on me. So, I opened up the case, and although all three of the fans were running, the vido card was burning hot. So, I've left the case off and now have my window air conditioner blowing directly on the video card. My questions are: 1) Could this be the problem? 2) Is it safe for me to use my computer with this "alternate" cooling method, and 3) What would be the permanent solution? It's not terribly hot in my house, about 76 degrees. Thanks again in advance. Gudraves Posted June 4, 2005 Share Posted June 4, 2005 Wow that is very bad, I would have to agree with spitoon and say its an injured card, not completely dead but definately beyond use. I used to have sorta the same problem with my ATI 9200 but not quite as bad and switched to an older video card and have no problems anymore. As for your AC cooling your computer, some people would argue that you shouldnt do it because of moisture possiblities which could happen but its highly unlikely unless its within inches of the AC. I use a small house fan next to my open computer and it works like a charm, temps are down about 5-10 degrees. They have pretty good prices too. I think they install them too, but I am not sure. I played an entire game with my new homemade cooling system, so I'm guessing that heat is the problem. I plan on having an MVP marathon tonight (the wild and crazy saturday nights of a mid-30s dude), so I'll post any additional issues or observations..
