controller.cfg for XBOX 360 controller (for MVP on the PC)

Recommended Posts

I've followed the instructions a few times and everything is working...for the most part.

I cannot pick people off or lead my runners. Any help would be appreciated.

So I don't have a Microsoft Controller. I have a Pelican 360 controller instaed (it was like $10-$15 cheaper). Now button wise it worked the same as the Micrsoft one in other games. My problem is with the drivers. It doesn't list the controller as Xbox 360 for Windows; it just says "Gamepad (Controller)." I also installed the original Microsoft Drivers (which didn't really change anything). When I go to install the updated drivers they don't show up in the selection window(Step 13). Am I screwed because It's not Microsoft?

Jeeze, these past threads made it seem like there were problems and it has yet to be fixed? Kraw's original .cfg file is near perfect, the only error being the cut-off/relay overlaping w/ the fake throw, simple edit and that is all however. Great files, thanks much... not sure why so many are having problems with it?

Yama, there are so many having problems with it because they don't bother to do any research for themselves. They look at the first page of the forum, don't do a search, then post their question right away.

I think this thread should get a sticky. :)

Do you think all of this can also apply to the SmartJoy X2 adapter and an original Xbox controller?

Question. I'm guessing it has to do with the controller.cfg, when playing with my friend it seems only the first controller is fixed. We did everything to the second controller that we did to the first, but no go. Guessing it's the .cfg file. Need to copy and rename something else?

I'm not seeing it. I must be blind or something. I mean when i click open it brings me to my folders but what folder is the profile in?

Also, how do you slide? The right analog does nothing?

That version is almost perfect but the sliding is messed up. When i push up he slides feet first when he should slide head first. Any suggestions?

Switch the axis for the right joystiq in the controller.cfg file.

Has anyone seen the update for the 360 controller driver on Windows Update? Does this seem to be a worthwhile update, or should I just stick with what works?

Never mind guys I figured it out, anyone else who wasn't sure you have to press the left shoulder button (pickoff button) + the applicable button for intentional walks and intentional HBPs.

Hi, big newbie also.

No matter what i do (with the 360 controller) i cant seem to do things like move the batter in the batters box, or pick off bases before the pitch.

Also, is the Dpad and left analog independant? It seems to me they do the same job if i assign one key to something.

Any help would be apprieciated.

After searching the net and this thread, I wasn't able to get a .cfg file that worked perfectly with the 360 controller using the XBCD XP config program and their 0.2.1 drivers(the .inf file). My 5th pitch would be mapped to LB(R1 on a ps2 pad) and a host of other mis-mappings. I went through my config line by line and matched it exactly to my previous PS2 pad's configurations(using a RadioShack adapter). I've played a few games, and all the buttons are exactly set to mirror the PS2 button placement. I can even get the intentional walk/hit batter sequence to work right. :D

This is the code assuming you have the above mentioned XBCD XP drivers...I'll go through the code again assuming you have the windows xbox360 driver to see if I can get it to work that way. I play Madden 07 as well, and that game is specifially designed to take advantage of the xbox 360 controller...assuming you have the win drivers installed. I'd rather not have to switch drivers everytime I want to switch between Madden and MVP. :)

To the above posters...go to your 'my documents' and search for the 'mvp 2005' folder. Open up the controller.cfg file with notepad and search for the paragraph with the XBCD controller name. If it's not there, just add this past code to the end of the file...make sure you leave a space between this code and the previous paragraph.

If the entry is already there, replace it with this code.

Open up MVP, pick your team. Make sure the gamepad is set to the xbcd gamepad.

It should work fine now, like the PS2 pad. :)

edit: I also got the controller to work the the basic windows xp drivers. The controller DOES NOT VIBRATE with the windows drivers, but otherwise works flawlessly as a PS2 pad substitute:

I needed the XBCD drivers again and all that, and since Total-Classics is down, I have found the Installation setup over at EAmods.com... So I will also post it on here so people like me don't need to go searching all over the place...

here's the link...

Followed the instructions, and everything works fine. One question: Is there a way to change the pickoff from the normal one to the quick one? I was pretty bad at pickoffs on the xbox, but with this config it's impossible to pick someone off.

New version has been at TC for a while, here is a link

http://forums.total-classics.com/viewtopic.php?t=20

I can't get this link to work. Keeps coming up with an Error or says URL can't be found.

I'd like to be able to use my 360 controller for this game. Is it possible that someone could upload their controller.cfg file ??? Or, maybe post the exact text that I need to add to this file and tell me exactly where to add it within the body of existing text???

FYI, I already have the MS file necessary to use the 360 controller (have used it for playing Madden 07).

Thanks in advance !!!

UPDATE: For the most part, I've got the controller working but there are still a few things that I can't figure out how to do. I followed Kraws instructions (finally found it on EAMods.com) and even downloaded the MVP profile shown.

Here's my problem:

1) Can't get the batter to move in the battters box

2) Can only do the slow "safe" pickoff throw

Does anybody know how to correct these ??

Thanks

1. I'm not at my home PC so I can't confirm, but I'm pretty sure it's done by holding down the left trigger and moving analog stick.

2. I asked the same question 2 posts up, so I'm also waiting for a response in regards to this issue.

Does anyone have the link for the xbox 360 controller? When I connect it to my laptop, windows update cannot find anything and I have to physically locate the file somewhere on microsoft.com. After I run this .exe, and go through all the steps I cannot locate the controller in the device manager, but I do see a question mark next to Other Devices and a subdevice with question mark called USB Device. What do you think is wrong?

No, the drivers on that CD are unnecessary.

You should see a controller no matter which one you installed. Did you install the drivers with the controller unplugged?

That said, the XBCD ones are preferred since they give you more options for configuration.

OK, got a few more questions for ya since I don't want to screw things up when I try this:

1) Should I double click on that XBCD XP file (the one you linked me to earlier) before I plug the controller into the USB port, or while I have the controller plugged in?

2) Will using the file you gave me affect my game play at all during other games, say, like Halo PC, that I have used it for before and it worked well?

3) Again using the file you linked me to and no other, can I use the controller "like a mouse" for in game menu browsing, as I have seen several other ask about here?

Thanks again

1) Should I double click on that XBCD XP file (the one you linked me to earlier) before I plug the controller into the USB port, or while I have the controller plugged in?

2) Will using the file you gave me affect my game play at all during other games, say, like Halo PC, that I have used it for before and it worked well?

3) Again using the file you linked me to and no other, can I use the controller "like a mouse" for in game menu browsing, as I have seen several other ask about here?

Thanks again

1.That's the way I installed. It probably doesn't matter, but I've seen some computers screw things up if you don't install the drivers before plugging things in.

2.It'll affect other games, if you have previously configured them to use the gamepad using the Microsoft drivers.

3. The XBCD driver applet doesn't have the ability to do this (that I know of). You probably need another application to configure that and I don't know the name of it offhand.

Alright, go to Control Panel->Add/Remove Hardware. Opt not to use Windows Update. Choose the driver to install. Choose the pick from a list option and track down the XBCD controller driver.

But if I use your driver AND THEN try to use it to play Halo PC it should work like normal?

And what's the point of this extra driver anyways? The controller doesn't work for MVP 2005 without it?

I assume you meant "Don't search I will choose the driver to install" when you said pick from a list option. After that I select the hardware type as "sound, video, and game controllers" then click next. It lists several vendors, none of which are xbox or microsoft.

You'll probably have to remap the controls (if you use the gamepad).

the biggest benefits are being able to configure the triggers as independent buttons instead of parts of a single axis and the added rumble support. MVP works with the default MS drivers, but it works better with the XBCD drivers.

The XBCD driver should be listed as a "Human Interface Device".

One other thing, have you tried configuring your gamepad on another machine?

When I choose Human Interface Device I have a large choice of vendors to choose from. There's nothing xbox related under Microsoft and I cannot find anything XBCD related. I have no other machines to test this on currently unfortunately.
