High school outfielder Jason Place, born in May 1988, was the first selection by the Red Sox in the 2006 Amateur Draft. Place, who profiles to end up in left or right field, has tremendous power potential, something lacking in the minor league system and something that certainly needed to be addressed eventually. With four first round picks (six last year) and back-to-back picks, it was obvious the Sox would go with a conservative pick (likely a pitcher) and a risky play (likely a hitter with power potential). It played out just like that. The video on MLB.com shows a clear uppercut swing, which also makes him liable to strike out - but that comes with most power hitters. He has a pretty lean frame for his power potential, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him fill out even more.

and daniel bard would be good too

Age: 20

Born: June 25, 1985

Charlotte, NC

Height: 6-4

Weight: 200

Throws: Right

Drafted: 1st round, 2006

College: North Carolina

High School: Charlotte Christian (NC)

ETA: 2010

NOTES: Bard played an instrumental role in North Carolina's Coastal Division title and will be an even bigger piece of the puzzle in the upcoming ACC Tournament...In his last start on May 20 against Boston College, Bard hurled seven innings of one-run ball for the win, while allowing five hits with two walks and four K's...Bard, who played in the shadows of UNC ace Andrew Miller, compiled a 7-3 record this season with a 3.53 ERA in 14 games (13 starts) and 79 innings...He also notched a pair of complete games...A member of team USA, Bard will most likely be a No. 1 or No. 2 pitcher in the majors...He does not have a Roger Clemens-type fastball, but the mechanics to go the distance and fool batters with junk. Scouting Report: Live arm.

Fastball sits in the low to mid 90s and touches 97 mph. Also has an excellent curveball. Has trouble with keeping is command consistent. Average breaking ball. Strong frame and good maturity. Very high potential.

Thanks but once again, there's no room.

What about the minors? I know that is asking a lot, but will top prospects be adjusted much? (assuming it does not affect progression too much for those with little MLB time)

I've been editing the ratings for the guys that've had callups thus far + some other guys but there hasn't been a complete overhaul like the one kraw did on the MLB players.

I appreciate the help Emil and I understand if you don't have time to take a look at the Giants organisation the way we talked about.

However, I won't be making ANY ratings changes to the guys kraw have edited. Sorry guys...

three year splits and trends

if a player has been getting better every year for the last three his rating are a little better than just using the 3 year splits...same for the other direction

Quick Question, is Clayton Kershaw, 7th overall pick in the draft by the dodgers, LHP, left yesterday for the Vero Beach Dodgers, going to be in this roster? If not are any rookies that were selected in the draft going to be added? Thanks

Not at this moment, no (sorry).

Yes, some of them.

Chris Rahl

William & Mary OF Chris Rahl hit 20 home runs and stole 42 bases as a sophomore, showcasing a power-speed combination that earned All-America honors and put him in position to get drafted in the first five rounds. While he hit 12 homers, slugged .554 and stolen 21 bases (in 30 tries) as a junior, Rahl's .297 average and 27-37 walk-strikeout ratio show how he's tried to do too much in his draft year. Opponents have filled his plate appearances with offspeed pitches, and he has struggled against breaking balls while chasing the rare fastballs he sees--often out of the zone. Still, Rahl's plus speed should put him in the first 10 rounds, and history says he will hit better if he stops trying to impress with his power. A high school second baseman, Rahl doesn’t show true outfield instincts, but he works hard and is helped by his speed and plus arm. He could play center field, but likely settles into a corner.

Thanks, I'll add him.

Some movement:

SP Russ Savickas (AAA) went back to down to Mid-A

Syracuse is back to a 24 man roster (max is 25) and they have a 4 man rotation. SP Ty Taubenheim is set to be sent down to AAA tomorrow to make room for AJ Burnett.

RP Connor Falkenbach (AA) was sent back to Dunedin (A). They are also at one shy of the roster max for AA with 22, it is speculated that SP Ismael Ramirez could be activated soon.

RP Derek Tate (A+) sent down to Lansing (Mid-A)

I realize Greene hasn't played much this season, that is why I brought him up specifically, the incredibly small sample size. Yes, he has hit better against righties (in 50 ab's) than he has against lefties (all of 14 ab's) this season, but you cannot rate him as a better hitter vs righties, because that is simply not true.
I just pointet that out, I leave the ratings up to Totte, but understand your point ;)

How did Kraw edit them? Formula?

here is another dback, someone they just drafted and have signed

this is from baseball america

3 87 ARI Cyle Hankerd of Southern California CA

Following up on a strong summer when he was the MVP of the wood-bat New England Collegiate League, Hankerd was the top hitter for Southern California's troubled team, which collapsed in the second half of the season and was expected to miss out on a regional bid for the third time in four seasons. Unlike many college hitters available this season, he has shown improvement, cutting down on his strikeouts while improving his power significantly. Hankerd's bat is his best tool, as he has the strength to maintain a balanced, flat swing that allows him to drive the ball to all parts of the field. He doesn't have natural loft power but has improved in that area this season, improving from one homer in 2005 to 10 this spring. Defensively, Hankerd profiles as a solid left fielder but doesn't have the arm for right. He's a below-average runner as well.

colvin

Colvin was the hottest hitter coming down the stretch for one of college baseball's hottest teams. It's redemption for a player who finished 2005 in a 4-for-39 slump. Colvin took a 15-game hitting streak into the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, as his tools start turning into production. Colvin's timing couldn't be better, as scouts are looking for any college hitters who have tools and are performing. Colvin doesn't have a tool that stands out, but as he has gained strength he has been able to repeat his smooth lefthanded swing more readily, and he's added power to be average in that department. He's an above-average runner and an efficient basestealer who plays a solid left field. Colvin's arm is average. While he doesn't stand out, he has shown fewer and fewer weaknesses this spring, and some scouts estimated he would go in the first three rounds.

Samar.

If Samardzija were solely a baseball player, he'd be much more advanced as a pitcher and a lock first-rounder. But he's not. A consensus football all-American who set Notre Dame records for receptions (77) and touchdown catches (15) last fall, he's also the top-rated wide receiver for the 2007 NFL draft. His fastball has increased from 89-92 mph in 2005 to 91-94 mph this year, touching 96 on occasion. His 6-foot-5 frame and three-quarters arm slot give him power sink on his fastball. He has scrapped a sloppy curveball in favor of an 81-84 mph slider that already is an average pitch. He still has a lot of work to do on the mound. He gets hit more than he should because his control, command and secondary pitches are works in progress. While his mechanics are free and easy, he lacks deception. Samardzija has told Fighting Irish coaches that he'll return for his senior season of football, and he has made it clear to baseball teams that he'll at least explore the NFL next spring. While baseball clubs can give him a backloaded five-year deal as a two-sport star, few want to risk an early draft pick on a player who might walk away in a year. He makes the most sense to a team that has extra picks and can afford to gamble one, or to a club with few picks that wants to try to hit a home run. The Cubs fall into the latter category. Chicago GM Jim Hendry is a close friend of Notre Dame coach Paul Mainieri, and the Cubs spent well over slot money to land Irish righthander Grant Johnson in a similar situation two years ago.
