Cleveland Indians -- It's Tribe Time Now!

SpaceFlare

Recommended Posts

This is my first attempt at presenting a dynasty.

It'll be set in the year 2009 and I'll be controlling the Indians. I did a lot of the offseason moves for all teams myself.. Forcing trades, FA signings, etc.. The free agents who I had no idea where they would be headed, I let the computer sign them, so there may be strange signings around the place.

I originally wanted to start this off with a hot stove report of sorts. Decided against that.. I'll just do roster presentations for all 30 MLB teams. With a season preview and my predictions on who will finish in what place in each division.

If I can't get help on presentation templates, I might just do text presentations. I know they aren't too appealing to readers so that is a fallback plan..

Ooh! A good Jensen Lewis face!

I hated how my set-up men and middle relievers had cyberfaces and my closer had a generic face on.

Rosters are done. I've edited all the lineups for all 30 MLB teams and I'm gonna get help in preparing a season preview for all teams, which will include their projected rotations and starting lineups.

And my gameplay settings while we're at it.

Difficulty: Pro

Datafile: Jim's Combo Datafile v8.25

Sliders: My own

Hot/Cold Zones: Fade

Strike Zone: Off

Hitter's Eye: Off

Rosters: kg's latest with some edits

lol so sorry if this ends up completely hijacking your thread, but i've been seeing a lot of ppl with dynasties post about datafiles--what exactly are they, and what do they do?

And btw, i'm excited to see what moves you make--i used to have a tribe dynasty for fun and it was going quite well, i forgot why i deleted it, lol :D

A datafile affects different facets of the game. You can edit camera views, ball physics, CPU pitcher and batter tendencies, pitch meter difficulty, etc, etc.

Combining a datafile of your choice with sliders adjusted to your liking should yield realistic gameplay results.

I'm working on season preview write-ups now. And I've found people to help me with templates so I should be able to whip something up within the week. :D

Thing is though, that I lost the list of offseason transactions and I don't remember everything I did.. The less notable trades that I did, and the CPU did some trades of its own as well.. Actually they only made one trade so I still recall which one that is.

lol OUCH about them transactions, that's tough!! lol.

But seriously, thanks for the explanation on datafiles--i've been using kamula's sliders but not the datafile bc i didn't realize that it made any difference.

But this looks really good, I really love cliff lee, i'm not a tribe fan, but he's definitely one of my favorite pitchers in recent memory, lol.

Good luck here, like I said, i've got a certain affinity towards tribe chises because my first ever franchise i ever made with this game like, 4 years ago or w/e was with cleveland, so....yeah....

I've always wanted someone to do a "Tribe" dynasty in the mold of Major League (the movie), where the roster is cast offs from other teams ... and then see how the franchise/season would play out.

It might be interesting to see what a roster of "busted prospects" and "beyond their best years" (or oft injured) veterans would look like.

Carmona solid in Opening Day win

Boxscore: BAL 0 - CLE 4

Fausto Carmona proved to everyone that he was healthy and ready to go, pitching 7.1 innings of shut-out ball in a 4-0 win against the Baltimore Orioles.

Refusing to answer questions by the media how he would approach this coming 2009 season, Carmona let his game do the talking. He struck out 7 batters and scattered 5 hits, while showcasing excellent control as he gave up only one base on balls.

Baltimore starter Radhames Liz struggled with his command, giving up 5 walks and recording only one strikeout.

The Indians opened up the scoring in the 3rd inning after Hudson lined a single to center field to score Sizemore, who opened the 3rd inning with a bunt single and a stolen base.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Radhames Liz left the game complaining of pains in his pitching arm. Details on his injury have yet to be made known.

Reliever Randor Bierd was given a rude welcome by Shin-Soo Choo, as the Indians right-fielder clubbed a two-run homer on the 1st pitch thrown by Bierd.

Emotions escalated in the 9th inning when Rafael Perez plunked Lou Montanez in the head. When asked what happened, Perez replied, “I was trying to throw a cutter up and in, but the ball slipped away from me and it happened to knock him square in the face. I wasn't trying to hurt him, why would I intentionally hit someone in the 9th inning?â€

Sizemore's 4th-inning double scores game-winning runs

Boxscore: BAL 2 - CLE 4

Last year's AL Cy Young winner, Cliff Lee, did not have his usual command out there, giving up two runs, six hits, and three walks. in 6.0 innings pitched.

“My cutter just wasn't working right today. I couldn't locate it and the opposing hitters mashed it,†Lee commented on his start.

He did not need his best stuff to beat Troy Patton and the Orioles tonight, however, as Patton himself had a similar night, giving up seven hits, four runs, and three walks in 7.0 innings pitched.

The Indians took the lead for good in the 4th inning, when Grady Sizemore hit a two-run double that drove in Ryan Garko, who singled to get on base, and Asdrubal Cabrera, who doubled.

Orioles shortstop Chin-Lung Hu continued his shaky defensive play, racking up 2 throwing errors, which did not lead to runs.

Ride the Choo train! Indians win extra inning thriller in grand fashion

Boxcore: BAL 5 - CLE 9

Is Chris Ray ready to close? Orioles fans were asking this before the season began and the early returns do not look nice.

After Adam Jones hit an RBI triple at the top of the 10th to drive in Nick Markakis to give the Orioles a 5-4 lead, silencing the ruckus crowd at Progressive Field, Chris Ray came in at the bottom of the 10th to try to nail his first save of the young season.

After getting Jhonny Peralta to fly out, Eric Wedge surprisingly pulled out Ryan Garko, who went 3 for 4 in this game, and put in Travis Hafner.

The move panned out well. Hafner proceeded to club a 99 mph heater into the stands to tie the ballgame, rejuvenating the crowd.

Perez pitched a shaky 11th, as Matt Wieters opened things up with a base hit. With Freddy Bynum running for Wieters, Nomar Garciaparra would then hit what would look like a routine double play until Asdrubal Cabrera fails to come up with the catch off the flip by Orlando Hudson.

And when Chris Ray came back out of the 11th, he could not even get a single out. Asdrubal Cabrera lined a single up the middle to lead things off. Grady Sizemore got on base by a throwing error by back-up catcher Guillermo Quiroz on what would have otherwise been a sacrifice bunt. With the ball sailing past first base and into right field, Sizemore and Cabrera advanced up to 2nd and 3rd.

With the pressure mounting, Orioles manager Dave Trembley opts to intentionally walk Orlando Hudson to load the bases with nobody out.

And Choo came up to bat, looking to win the game, whether it be via a walk, a line drive, a little dribbler or a sacrifice fly. But out of all his options, he chose to clout the slider thrown inside and hit it off the upper deck to drive in all the runners on base as well as himself.

Was Choo's offensive barrage late last season a mirage or was it a sign of things to come?

For now, we can say that Choo is proving that he is ready to break out and become a steady source of run production.

Indians tired bullpen nearly costs them the game but they hold onto win

Boxscore: TB 5 - CLE 6

The late inning slugfests reminded Indians fans of the horror of last season's bullpen.

With the best bullpen arms unavailable due to fatigue, the Indians were forced to use relievers they were not really comfortable with using in a tight situation.

Scott Lewis looked to be in line for the win until BJ Upton cranked a two-run shot against Indians reliever Masahide Kobayashi to tie the game during the top of the 8th.

Asdrubal Cabrera hit a single in the bottom of the 8th to drive in two runs which would put the Indians up for good.

Rafael Betancourt came to close things out in the 9th inning but gave fans a scare by giving up a home run to Carl Crawford to bring the Rays within one run of tying the game up again.

Rookie David Price was a little roughed up in his first start of the 2009 season as he surrendered 4 runs in 5.1 innings, including a two-run homer to Ryan Garko. He struck out six batters, gave up seven hits, and walked 3 batters in the game.

Fellow rookie Scott Lewis had uncharacteristically shaky command in his start tonight, walking four batters, but he showed the deception that led to his being in the major leagues by striking out five batters and allowing only two hits and two runs in six solid innings of work.

Shields, Rays end Indians early winning streak at four games

Boxscore: TB 6 - CLE 3

With the Rays bats still on fire, James Shields did not have to wait to long for his first lead of the game.

Carl Crawford hit a two-run homer off of Indians starter Aaron Laffey to give the Rays their first lead of the game 2-2 in the 2nd inning.

The Indians would knot the game up with two runs in the 3rd inning, but would not hold onto that lead for long.

BJ Upton would hit a sacrifice fly in the 5th inning to drive in Jason Bartlett, who was earlier walked by Aaron Laffey.

Rookie reliever Jon Meloan struggled with his command in his first relief appearance of the season, and he gave up a two-run shot to Carlos Pena to have the Rays pull away with the game.

The Indians would try to rally in the 9th inning, after Kelly Shoppach and Ben Francisco each hit bloopers for singles. This prompted Rays manager to bring out closer Chad Cordero in place of set-up man Dan Wheeler to shut the door on the game.

Chad Cordero would give up an RBI single to Asdrubal Cabrera, with the earned run being charged to Wheeler. Cordero induced a pop fly from Sizemore's bat and a grounder from Orlando Hudson to end the game.

Kazmir comes one out shy of no-hitter; Victor Martinez injures meniscus

Boxscore: TB 3 - CLE 0

Rays fans looked on in anticipation, would Scott Kazmir pitch the organization's first no-no?

Shin-Soo Choo had other plans. With two out in the ninth inning and facing a 1 ball, 2 strike count, Choo smashed a single into left-center to break up Kazmir's no-no.

Kazmir would settle for the 1-hit shutout by striking out Orlando Hudson in the next at bat to end the game. Kazmir had great command of the strikezone in this game, allowing only two base on balls and striking out seven batters. But what was more amazing was that he only threw 88 pitches on the night.

"I had faith in my defense," Kazmir commented, "I know they can come up with the great defensive play and I don't always have to go out there looking for a strikeout."

This new philosophy by Kazmir led him to a complete game shutout in which he threw less than 90 pitches. This is the same Kazmir who looked wild past the 5th inning as he had reached the century mark in pitch count.

Kazmir's stellar performance could not have come in a better time, as the Indians Fausto Carmona pitched 7 good innings, allowing only three runs, as well as fanning six batters. Carmona suffered from the long ball, he gave up two on sinkers that did not have quite a lot of sink in them.

Victor Martinez injured his knee on a diving play in the 1st inning. Carlos Pena hit a little dribbler down the 3rd base line, Peralta charged and threw the ball quickly to 1st base, Martinez had to get down on the ground to make a play and, in doing so, strained his meniscus.

Martinez is looking to be out of action for the next two weeks at the least.

Defensive lapse costs Athletics the win in day end of doubleheader

Boxscore: OAK 3 - CLE 4

Sometimes a single play can make or break the game. The A's youngsters learned that lesson today.

With the bases loaded and 1 out in the 4th inning, Asdrubal Cabrera hit a chopper back to the mound. Instead of going for a 1-4-3 double play, pitcher Dana Eveland tries to get Jhonny Peralta out at home. Cather Kurt Suzuki did not expect the throw would be headed for him and the ball sailed past him and into the backstop.

"The scorer charged the error to Kurt for not catching a good throw but it was really my fault," Eveland commented, "I should have just tried to gun down Kelly Shoppach at 2nd and we could have escaped that inning without giving up any runs. [it's] my error, that should have been an easy double-play."

It didn't seem like such a big deal back in the 4th inning, the A's were down by 3 runs after that error and it looked like they were in for a shellacking in the 4th. But at the end of the game, you could clearly see the frustration on the faces of Eveland and the rest of the A's.

Bobby Crosby's two-run homer in the 8th inning could've knotted the game up rather than just cut the lead down to one.

Cliff Lee did a nice job of hanging around in the game long enough to keep the bullpen fresh for the night end of the double-header. Closer Jensen Lewis will be available tonight as he only neeed six pitches to get the save tonight.

Sal Fasano, called up from AAA Buffalo earlier today, could start at catcher in the 2nd game of the double-header.

Barton's home run gives A's the win; A's split double header with Indians

Boxscore: OAK 6 - CLE 5

Daric Barton hit the last of six homers for both teams combined in this game, and it was a big one. Down by a run in the eighth inning and with a runner on second, Barton could have knotted the game up with a base hit but he opted to touch 'em all as he knocked one on a hanging slider by Rafael Perez.

"I had him set-up for the strikeout and I would've gotten out of the inning, but I didn't get enough break on my slider and he just hit it out," Perez said.

Barton had a big game after posting mediocre numbers for the first 7 games of the season. Barton went 2/3, driving in three runs, and hitting his first home run of the season. He also drew one walk and did not strikeout; a concrete sign of the plate patience he had demonstrated throughout the minors.

Grady Sizemore continues to scuffle at the plate, as he went 0/4 with a strikeout tonight. Orlando Hudson also went 0/4, fizzling after a hot start to the season. The Indians lead-off men both are hitting .172 and .167 on the season.

Indians win via Lewis' five-hit shutout

Score: OAK 0 - CLE 3

Lewis continues to show his success towards the end of 2008 was no fluke. This time he held the Oakland Athletics punchless throughout the game, for his first career complete game shutout, a day after the Athletics forced slugfests in both games of the doubleheader.

Lewis exhibited his trademark command, giving up no walks and fanning three batters en route to the complete game shutout.

Grady Sizemore may finally be breaking out of his slump. He went 2/4, hitting a single and a home run. Sizemore also added another stolen base to pad his totals to five on the season.

"I guess it was just a case of us facing southpaw pitchers consecutively, " Grady Sizemore said, "We faced Kazmir, Eveland, Braden... that's three lefties straight. I'm just glad I was able to post a good line against a righty."

Indians clobber Rangers in series opener

Boxscore: CLE 7 - TEX 2

The Rangers roared to a win-loss record of 8-2 to start the season via a power-packed offense that just clobbered any pitching staff they faced.

But today, Aaron Laffey did what no other pitcher so far this season has managed to do; he held the Rangers offense relatively cold.

Laffey pitched 7 strong innings, striking out five batters, walking none, and only giving up three hits. The Rangers nabbed two runs off of him on two solo shots, one by Michael Young and the other by Milton Bradley.

"This place has been known to be a hitter's park," Aaron Laffey commented, "I knew I might give up a couple [home runs] here but I wanted to make sure that I would only give up solo homers. Their potent offense has come from getting on base and being driven in by the long ball. I managed to keep them off the bases."

Rangers starter Kevin Millwood struggled through four innings, allowing six hits, walking three batters, and giving up two runs albeit striking out five batters. He left the game in the 5th inning without recording an out and was replaced by Vicente Padilla.

Padilla started out sharp by retiring the side in order in the 5th, but things started to turn for the worse for the Rangers reliever come the 6th inning. After giving up a double to right fielder Ben Francisco, and inducing a grounder off the bat of Asdrubal Cabrera, Rangers manager Ron Washington opted to intentionally walk Grady Sizemore. Orlando Hudson would also get on base with a walk.

With the bases loaded and only one man out, Shin-Soo Choo clobbered his 2nd grand slam of the season, breaking the game wide open and putting the Indians on top for good. This was Shin-Soo Choo's 4th home run on the season and this upped his RBI totals to 13.

Player of the Game:

McCarthy exits in the 3rd inning as Indians win

Boxscore: CLE 5 - TEX 1

Brandon McCarthy had been the best pitcher for the Rangers in the early season. He posted a 0.66 ERA, and a 2-0 record in both games he had started so far.

McCarthy was able to escape the 1st inning only giving up a hit to Grady Sizemore. But in the second inning, Jhonny Peralta led things off with a solo home run. Catcher Kelly Shoppach would follow suit, knocking in a solo home run as well.

The damage would come in the third inning, when, after walking Sizemore and giving up a single to Ben Francisco, Shin-Soo Choo would club a home run to put the Indians out front with a then 5-0 lead.

Fausto Carmona was able to escape trouble despite not having his best stuff out on the mound. He only struck out three batters, walked one, and gave up eight hits through six innings. Despite giving up eight hits, he only gave up a single run on a bases loaded sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning by Michael Young.

"My sinker didn't quite have a lot of sink tonight. They were able to get hits, luckily they didn't score a lot of runs, " Carmona commented.

Orlando Hudson was given the day off to try and get him out of a slump. Jamey Carroll started in his place in 2nd base; Ben Francisco moved to the 2nd spot in the batting order and continued his hot hitting, going 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Benches clear twice as Indians complete sweep of Rangers

Boxscore: CLE 8 - TEX 3

The Rangers won't get blown out without a fight. They showed that today.

Rangers Reliever CJ Wilson started the fracas as he plunked Grady Sizemore with his first pitch of the night in the 7th inning.

Grady Sizemore, thinking he was beaned intentionally, started jawing at Wilson and then proceeded to charge the mound. Both benches cleared but no blows were thrown yet. The umpires decided to eject Grady Sizemore but not CJ Wilson.

In the 8th inning, Scott Feldman came in relief of CJ Wilson, and after getting Franklin Gutierrez, who came in to replace Sizemore, to fly out, Feldman hit Orlando Hudson with a pitch.

Hudson attacked Feldman, took him to the ground and threw several fists in his direction. Third baseman Chris Davis charged in as well and threw himself on Orlando Hudson.

After the fight was broken up, Feldman was carried off the field, limping as he went off. Hudson and Davis were both ejected for their on-field wrestling match.

Warnings were finally issued after Indians reliever Jon Meloan decided to hit Milton Bradley on the thigh with a cutter, after Meloan surrendered a solo home run to Josh Hamilton.

Meloan was ejected by the home plate umpire; luckily, Milton Bradley took his base without going after Meloan.

Rangers starter Scott Olsen threw 120 pitches through six innings, giving up nine free bases while only fanning two batters as he took the loss in this brawl-marred game.

Five players suspended in Indians-Rangers brawl; Feldman injured

The league has handed down suspensions to five players for their actions on Sunday night's game.

The heaviest suspensions were given to Indians second baseman Orlando Hudson and Rangers third baseman Chris Davis. Both were suspended 7 games each for exchanging blows.

Davis came into the fray after Hudson charged the mound and knocked down Rangers reliever Scott Feldman. Davis, seeing that Feldman had gotten hurt, came to the defense of his teammate and threw punches at Orlando Hudson.

Scott Feldman could've been suspended for hitting Orlando Hudson with a pitch had he not been injured. Feldman will miss at least a month and a half with a fractured left knee.

Indians reliever Jon Meloan, who got ejected after hitting Milton Bradley with a pitch in the 8th inning, will receive a five game suspension. Meloan's actions could've instigated the 3rd bench clearing of Sunday night's game, luckily, Milton Bradley opted to just give Meloan a glare and walk right down to first base.

Rangers reliever CJ Wilson received a five game suspension as well, for starting the whole business by plunking Grady Sizemore with his very first pitch of Sunday night's game. Sizemore received a three game suspension for charging the mound after getting hit, as his actions caused the tension between both teams.

Staggered suspensions will be implemented, with the heaviest punishments going first.
