About This File

Introducing MVP Baseball '98, a complete overhaul of just about everything! This mod has literally been over 15 years in the making, with frustrating restarts and computer crashes and losing files and everything, but at last it's done, in time for the 20th anniversary of MVP Baseball 2005.

Features:

  • In this mod, you'll be able to play in all of the 30 MLB parks, with era appropriate signage. You have legit ballparks for each minor league and spring training stadium. All classic stadiums have been replaced to stadiums that were still standing in 1998 (albeit perhaps a bit modified, like Jarry Park, which is now a tennis stadium).

  • You'll see a bunch of new, never released cyberfaces that I created. In addition, you'll have the chance to play as any number of "Comebacks" for retired players, including Nolan Ryan, Kirby Puckett, Don Mattingly, Fernando Valenzuela, and many many more!

  • All players have accurate birthdays to reflect their ages in 1998. If you'd like to use the ScheduleUpdater tool, I will be releasing a mod shortly that will have the legit birthdays for when you roll back the clock. You just won't be able to play the All-Star Game due to errors with that.

  • Uniforms! I got my start on this site as a uniform mod creator, and I put my heart and soul into these uniforms. All teams have throwback uniforms and alternates. All minor league teams that had alternate uniforms have them. So sure, you might not ever play as the Prince William Cannons, but if you do, you'll be able to wear their softball top alternates if you wish! All players have proper uniform numbers, as best information as can be provided.

  • Portraits have been updated so that every player who has made the Major Leagues now have audio and a picture. Some pictures are low quality because they were ripped from baseball cards, but I just had to do my best with that. Players that never made the MLB have the logo of their current big-league club as the default.

  • All team, stadium, and player audio has been updated to so that every player has at least play by play names, and every stadium and every team has correct audio, to the best of my ability.

  • Menu music featuring all of your old favorites, from Ken Griffey Jr. presents Major League Baseball on the SNES to MLB '99, feel the nostalgia as you browse through the menus.

Limitations:

  • Due to hard coding, the winner of the All-Star Game will have homefield advantage. If you wish to remain era accurate, you'll have to win as the American League in 1998, National League in 1999, and so forth.

  • Using the schedule updater means you have to simulate the All-Star game or your dynasty will crash.

  • Like with many TC mods, playing multiple games may result in a crash, so be sure to save often.

  • Away bullpen cameras not lining up at 3Com Park (San Francisco) and neither home nor away bullpens are lining up correctly at LA Memorial Coliseum.

  • The San Diego Padres World Series team's uni select screen may say that the uniforms need to be unlocked. This is not true and you can scroll to select the uniform and it will load into the game as normal.

What an amazing effort and the description is not wrong as this mod drips with the nostalgia of the '98 season. The attention to details are tangible and excellent choice on the music:)

Response from the author:

Thanks very much! It was definitely a labor of love, and I had to go all out with it. The music was an homage to all the games I used to play when I was a kid. :)

Finally got a chance to really get into this new Mod today and the attention to detail is absolutely incredible! From the signage in the stadiums to the little details on the uniforms - such as the Harry Caray commemorative patch on the Cubs '98 uniforms - this is a first-class effort! It's so obvious how much time and energy BallFour put into this one! Great work!

Response from the author:

You'll notice that I've got the Harry Caray patch for the Cubs but not the "HEY HEY" patch above it. That's because Jack Brickhouse passed away in August. So while you might see it on some MLB Authentic Cubs uniforms from 1998, that patch wasn't added until August.

The hard work that BallFour put into this mod is evident as soon as you get into it. I wish I can give it more than five stars but as long as he knows I would if I could is good enough for me. Thank you for a sensational mod from a wonderful season in baseball history and Yankee history.

Response from the author:

Glad you've enjoyed so far. Looking forward to seeing a deep dive review from you in the future! :D
