Flamethrower Adam Miller Called up to #5 Spot From AAA Buffalo

April 29th, 2006 - Called Up #27 SP Adam Miller from AAA Buffalo in exchange for #56 RP Fernando Cabrera who was called down to AAA Buffalo to work out of the pen. Adam Miller had an era of 2.47 in 25.2 IP with 17 K and only 7 BB for AAA Buffalo this year. He will replace Jason Johnson as the 5th Pitcher in the rotation.

The Scoop On Adam Miller: Miller throws an upper 90's fastball that has been regularly clocked arouynd 97-98 and has a nice change and slider to complement it. The downside of throwing a fastball that fast all game long is that he usually won't stay in games all too long, averaging only 5.2 innings per outing. Definatly a strong prospect.

Ron Belliard has been moved up to the #2 Spot against RHP. He has already been in the #2 spot against lefties and has hit a overall of .310 with 2 HR. Jason Michaels who has been struggling to keep his average over .200 will move down to the #7 spot.

Boone Comes Off The DL...

Aaron Boone came off the DL today after 29 days with a sprained right hip flexor that he injured on opening day against the White Sox. Andy Marte has been hitting in his #8 spot at 3rd and has been filling in nicely hitting .277 with 1 HR and 2 SB. The Indians want to keep Marte in the lineup so he will platoon with Boone batting against the LHP. Boone will pick up where he left off this year playing in the series opener against the White Sox.

Yea and I like Ronnie Belliard so its a good deal for me, although I am looking around for speed to add, but I dont want to make any huge trades cause I feel they make a dynasty feel fake if there are too many and stuff.

Indians Split Double-Header With The Rangers

W: Francisco Cordero (2-0) L: Danny Graves (1-1) This first game of todays double header was a thriller. The Indians went into the bottom of the 9th down by 2 and Rangers closer Francisco Cordero on the mound. A leadoff single by Jason Michaels got everyone on their feet but then a quick 3 pitch strike out by Peralta reminded everyone of Cordero's 100% save rate and ERA of 1.53 so far this year. But apparently Travis Hafner never saw those stats as he blasted a 2 run HR to straight away center and tie the game at 5. The Indians joy was short lived as Cordero recovered nicely to get the next 2 outs. The top of the 10th inning was just another nightmare for the Indians as Graves let up doubles to Hank Blalock and Phil Nevin and the Rangers knocked in 3 runs. Cordero recovered and pitched the 10th in 1-2-3 fashion to get the win. The Rangers took this Rubber Match from the Indians much in part to the heart of their order. There 3-6 batters each had an RBI in the game and Wilkerson and Teixeira had back to back blasts in the 3rd inning.

Adam Miller made his debut tonight and while it wasn't exactly what he was looking for it was exciting to see this kid pitch. Sure he let up 4 runs in 4 innings and 2 HR's, but it was against a good slugging team. Not to mention he did had 4 very nice looking strikeouts against Blalock, Young, Nix, and Mench. For the most part he had control over his fastball which was regularly clocked at 98-99 MPH and he complemented that with a changeup that was around 78. His slider was nice and hard and used it to get the K most of the time but he did let a few pitches get away from him and thats where he made his mistakes. Just a few mistakes here and there prevented him from having a good outing today.

Miller: "Well thats not the way I wanted to start out my MLB career, but the first games outta the way so I just have nowhere to go but up now."

Rainy Day Thoughts...

Lineup Overview...

#1 Grady Sizemore (CF): Sizemore is hitting just .270 after the first month of the season, but until just 5 games ago was hitting over .300. He has 10 extra base hits and 2 home runs which is added value from any lead off hitter. Grady is still learning to use his speed as he has put down a few nice drag bunts and has 5 steals so far. We like his aggresive style of play and as long as he keeps up his blue collar style of play he has a spot on this team anytime.

#2 Ron Belliard (2B): Ronnie has been one of the biggest surprises so far this year. He started in the #7 spot but has since moved up into the #2 spot which is a big responsibility. He has responded nicely with a .311 average, 10 two-baggers, and 4 HR. He is an added value in the field as well making his share of nice plays at 2B. Ron's only downside is his team high 18 strikeouts which is a no-no for any #2 hitter.

#3 Jhonny Peralta (SS): Peralta struggeled the first 2 weeks of the year but has come out of his slump nicely bringing his average over .306 and hitting 2 HR's in the past 4 games. He isn't hitting well with runners in scoring position with only 12 RBI's. We know he has more power than shown so far and will hopefully keep swinging away with confidence as we need some more power from our #3 spot.

#4 Travis Hafner (DH/1B): Travis has not only been leading our team to victory after victory, but his powerful swing has made him the league leader in HR's (13) and RBI's (29) while having a .349 average. We will ride Travis' hot streak while we can, but other people need to step up as we will need more than one guy down the road.

#5 Victor Martinez ©: Victor has been another disapointment so far this year. Hitting only .255 with only 16 RBI's. He has been showing some power lately (3 HR's in past 5 games and 5 total) but will need to step up and be more consistent as the season progresses.

#6 Ben Broussard (1B): Broussard is hitting a mere .224 with only 1 HR and 5 RBI's. He has been platooning with Eduardo Perez at first, but has been taking the bulk of the swings. With the highest strikeout rate of any starter and the worst average on the team, Ben needs to step it up or Indian fans will be seeing a change at 1st base this year.

#7 Jason Michaels (LF): Jason started out the season in the #2 spot but was hitting just .225 with no HR and only 5 RBI's. Since moving down to the #7 spot he has retaliated by bring his average up to .250 and hitting his first HR of the year. He has a high 17 strikeouts though and we are looking for more production from him in the future. On the bright side he has stolen his fair share of hits from people in the field.

#8 Andy Marte (3B): Marte has been solid for a rookie so far this year. He is hitting .261 with 1 HR and 7 RBI's with 1 SB. He has shown flashes of speed and good fielding, but has also made plenty of rookie mistakes. With Aaron Boone coming back from the DL he will stay in the lineup vs lefties and hopefully can iron out some of the kinks in his game. But this kid definatly has staying power.

#9 Casey Blake (RF): Blake has been one of the most productive (if not the most) #9 hitters in the league. He has kept his average hovering around .300 all year long and has 10 extra base hits including 2 HR's. He has shown a good eye with a team high 11 walks and team low 12 strikeouts. We like him in the #9 spot because it doesn't give pitchers a chance to relax, they know they have a very tough out in Casey Blake. And well why switch what is working so far?

Rainy Day Thoughts...

Pitching Overview...

C.C. Sabathia: Sabathia has struggeled to find his groove so far this season. While sporting a 2-0 record, he has an ERA of 4.91 and is averaging just 3.57 strikeouts per 9 innings. He has been throwing strikes though with only 1.12 walks per 9 innings, but has just let pitches drift over the plate. We are confident in his ability and we know he will find his groove soon enough.

Paul Byrd: The veteran Byrd has been a great addition to this Indians squad this year. Besides bring a 4-1 record and an ERA of 3.00, he has brought a great atmosphere to the pitching staff. He pitched the only complete game shutout on the team. People are buzzing about Byrd and we think he has quite a bit left in the tank.

Jake Westbrook: The #2 starter in the rotation has had his share of knocks over the first few weeks of the year. Hitters are hitting .313 against him and his ERA of nearly 6.00 has gotten him only 1 win while loosing 4. Jake has mentioned that he is trying to throw the fastball too much and is trying to overpower hitters, which with a low 90's fastball, is something you can't do at this level. He has been talking with the Indians pitching coach and Paul Byrd about bringing his changeup to a better level, which will also help out his fastball.

Cliff Lee: Cliff Lee is looking to have yet another solid year with the Indians. Sporting a 2-1 record over 5 starts he has a team low 1.59 ERA and hitters are hitting a mere .188 against him. We like the way he is pitching and is mixing his pitches well. We know he won't keep the ERA at 1.59 for long, but we can count on Cliff for solid outings most of the time.

Bob Wickman: Wickman has the closers role for another season - for now at least. He is definatly being watched closely by the Indians staff and word has it that they are looking for a 'more dependable closer' to add to the pen. His 6.52 ERA is the worst on the team and he has only converted 7 out of 9 saves. And in 6 out of those 7 saves he has let up at least 1 hit, while in 3 of those 7 he has let up at least 1 run.

Danny Graves: Danny is the Indians #1 choice out of the pen. He has pitched 25.0 innings, almost as much as #3 pitcher Cliff Lee (28.1 IP). A nice 2.16 ERA has landed him at a 1-1 record. Graves is definatly a nice possibility of landing the closers role if Bob Wickman continues to struggle as he has.

We don't know how much longer the Indians are going to stick with closer Bob Wickman, who blew yet another save tonight (his 3rd of the year). Wickman blew a 3 run lead in the 9th thanks to a 3 run HR from Ross Gload. It's one thing to blow saves, but it is another when its the divison rival AND your playing them at home. Sabathia watched his quality start and potential 3rd win of the year go down the drains in the 9th.

But the Indians kept their composure and kept playing hard into extra innings. According to Ron Belliard after the game "What else can you do? You just gotta keep playing." Jason Johnson came out of the bullpen to throw 3 scoreless innings and kept giving the offense a chance to win it. That chance came in form of a Casey Blake single follow by 2 crucial at bats by Sizemore and Belliard in that while both were out they advanced Blake to 3rd. Up stepped the struggeling Jhonny Peralta who looked as cool as can be as he smacked the game winning RBI single into right field. The kinda game right here that can make or break a season.

Sorry about that April 31st game against the White Sox - That is the correct score and linescore, but for some odd reason didn't get the box score from it so I really have no idea what went on in the game. Sorry for the no stats and what not - But I kept it rolling with a nice 12 inning thriller for you guys that I hope you enjoyed. It was some game - But I'm gonna have to do something about Wickman.

PS - How many people are following this dynasty? Show yourself! Help me get it around if you enjoy it!

I just took a screen shot with the html file from the extractor up. I actually had to take 2 so I could see the pitching stats also. So then I just quickly edited it in photoshop, just cut the fielding stats out and pasted the pitching stats in underneath so it all fit in nicely.

You can take a SS of your desktop by 1) using something like Howies quick shot, or 2)pressing your 'Print Screen' key and then pasting it into paint or any other editor.

Blockbuster Trade Beefs up Indians Staff

Indians hope Haren and Street can bring some younger energy to their staff.

May 3rd, 2006 - The Indians worked out a deal with the Oakland A's that will send SP Cliff Lee and SP Aaron Davis (AAA Buffalo) to Oakland in exchange for SP Danny Haren and RP Huston Street.

While the deal didn't come as a surprise, the players the Indians traded away did. Lee was leading the team with an ERA under 2.00 and was the best starter to date. Haren is 3-1 and comes in with a 1.70 ERA but only has 1 start and has been working out of the pen as a long reliever. Street was the rookie of the year last year as the A's closer but was bumped to setup man earlier this year.

Haren was placed as the Indians 3rd starter and Huston Street is penciled in as the closer, which if both players perform to their potential, the Indians did get the better in this deal.

Yea I know Cliff Lee was having a good season so far, but our staff is really old, so adding 2 young but very good arms should do us well in the future. Plus Haren had like a 1.75 era at the time of the trade. It should do us well.

Indians Lose a Heartbreaker in 17

The Indians had another long night playing 17 innings against the Oakland A's. The game didn't get over until long into the morning hours. But if your a fan what more can you ask for? We saw home runs, robbed home runs, plays at the plate, and lots of baseball!

The A's started it up in the bottom of the 2nd when Frank Thomas hit a sac fly that scored Jason Kendall, followed by a solo shot by Nick Swisher. The Indians countered in the 5th with a solo home run courtesy of Casey Blake. They then tied it at 2 with another solo shot, this time by who else but Travis Hafner.

This is where both teams plunged into a very exciting extra inning affair. The excitement started in the 12th inning when it looked like Jhonny Peralta had hit the go ahead HR, but before the fans at McAfee Colliseum could groan Milton Bradley jumped up and came down with it. The Indians had another chance in the 15th when Martinez went for home after Andy Marte hit a double, but he Bradley again made a perfect throw to the plate and saved the A's once again.

Oakland finally got something started in the 17th with a 1 out double by Bobby Crosby, which was followed by a single by Marco Scutaro that ended the longest game of the season for any team.

Sizemore: "It's never fun to lose one like that, especially when your the one in the outfield watching the ball fly just out of reach."

Your staff might be old, but you have Fastuo Carmona, Jeremy Sowers, and Adam Miller, who could all be future Aces.

Yea I am giving Miller his chance now, and I am keeping a close eye on Carmona - Who is only 22!
