Ramirez leads M's over Rays.

The Rays slump continued as the M's belted 4 solo homers off starter Jason Blizzard in a 5-2 win.

Ichiro and Raul Ibanez put the Rays on the back foot early, hitting back-to-back solo homeruns in the first.

Kenji Johjima added an RBI single in the third, he hit a homer in the 6th and Ben Broussard also took one out in the same inning.

The Rays offense was subpar, managing only two runs on seven hits, the runs coming through Lambda Zeta's RBI single and Mickey Stedfunk's solo homer.

The Rays bullpen recieved a workout with Blizzard leaving early. Jai Waddell, Michael Johnson, Frank Duffy, Ben DeCoste and Mike Philsphan all made appearances and they were superb allowing only two hits combined.

W: Ramirez (4-0) L: Blizzard (4-2) S: Putz (8)

NOTABLE RAYS PERFORMERS:

L Zeta 1-4 RBI

M Stedfunk 1-4 HR (8)

Rays end slump with wild walk-off.

Just when it looked as though the Rays would slump to another loss, Michael Sandoval pulled out a clutch two-run triple to give the Rays a 3-2 victory in 12 innings.

Lambda Zeta connected for his first homer of 2007 in the first and Yuniesky Betantcourt tied it in the 3rd with a homer of his own.

Both starters pitched extremely well with Pridham allowing 1 run on 6 hits over 8 and King Felix allowing 1 run on 7 hits over 8.

Brendan Lago and Mark Lowe pitched well out of the bullpens for their respective teams, with Lago's only blemish being a homer to Adrian Beltre which gave the M's a 2-1 lead. Mike Philsjhan recorded the final two outs in relief of Lago.

Johnluke Chaparro singled to leadoff the bottom of the inning against JJ Putz, Chris Kelvarr singled behind him, and Michael Sandoval hit a walk-off two run triple to right center to end it on a positive note.

W: Philsphan (1-1) L: Putz (0-2)

NOTABLE RAYS PERFORMERS:

L Zeta 3-5 HR (1)

JL Chaparro 3-5

C Kelvarr 3-5

M Sandoval 2-5 2 RBIs

Ichiro's homers power Mariners to series win.

Tampa Bay continued its slump as Ichiro hit 2 homers, the 2nd of which was the game-winner as the Mariners defeated the Rays who slumped to their 8th loss in the last 12 with a 5-4 loss.

Ichiro homered in the 3rd to commence the scoring but Michael Sandoval scorched a 2-run laser which barely stayed fair to give the Rays the lead.

Dave Pudge added an RBI single, scoring Chris Kelvarr to extend the lead to two in the 6th.

Lucas Williams pitched well until the 7th, when Adrian Beltre and Jose Vidro hit longballs to give Seattle the 4-3 lead. Ichiro's second homer in the 8th, raised the gap but eventually proved to be the difference.

Hector HFLR continued his hot hitting, belting a solo shot off of Mark Lowe in the bottom of the 8th. It was the first earned run allowed by the flame-thrower Lowe this season.

The Rays put 2 on in the 9th, with Lambda Zeta and Johnluke Chaparro reaching base. Hector HFLR grounded out, and Tim Huss, who was pinch-hitting for Wright who ran for Kelvarr in the 8th, grounded into the forceout at third to end the game.

W: Washburn (3-6) L: Williams (2-3) S: Putz (9)

NOTABLE RAYS PERFORMERS

C Kelvarr 3-4

H HFLR 2-4 HR (3)

Series Preview Rays (24-23) @ White Sox (19-26)

Matchups:

Game 1: M Drogalis (5-3, 2.79) vs J Contreras (1-7, 4.89)

Game 2: Z Neal (4-3, 1.66) vs M Buehrle (2-4, 2.80)

The Rays still own second place, but sit 9 games back of the Yankees who are looking tough to beat so far this season.

Winning this series is a must for the Rays as they need some momentum heading into their series against the strong Tigers next week.

PLAYER TO WATCH:

C Kelvarr- Had one of the best individual series of the year against the Mariners as far as average goes. He will be an important cog in the offense in a hitters park.

Reyes' Grand Slam gives Rays victory.

The Rays put up a 5 spot in the 5th as they defeated the Chicago White Sox 5-1.

Chicago opened the scoring in the 4th when AJ Pierzynski walked with the bases loaded.

The Rays hit back in the 4th after Michael Haylock's two out single. Matthew Polites and Michael Sandoval walked to loaded the bases and Mickey Stedfunk singled to center to score one and leave them loaded for Reyes, who took a Contreras changeup out to right-center for the grand slam and the Rays 5-1 lead.

Mike Drogalis continued his superb start to the season, giving up just 1 run on 6 hits in 6 innings, earning his 6th victory.

W: Drogalis (6-3) L: Contreras (1-8)

NOTABLE RAYS PERFORMERS:

Hmmmm..... Either we blast them or they blast us! -- What sliders are you using rambo?

I'm using Hoop's sliders for all-star, but i played a few exhibition games with them and the power was too high, so I toned it down a little bit.

6-run 9th inning rally gives Rays improbable victory.

The Rays scored 6 runs in the top of the 9th to rally for a 6-4 victory against the Chicago White Sox.

The Rays trailed 4-0 after the White Sox scored 4 in the 2nd capped off by AJ Pierzynski's 3 run blast.

Rays starter Zac Neal had his shortest outing of the year, going just 5.1 innings, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits.

The Rays managed only 2 hits in the first 8 innings off of White Sox starter Mark Buehrle.

He allowed a leadoff double to Matthew Polites, retired Michael Haylock on a groundout before Lambda Zeta smacked an RBI double to prompt Buehrle's removal from the game.

Closer Bobby Jenks came in to try and close it out. He intentionally walked Mickey Stedfunk in front of Ronnie Reyes, who came in for the injured Johnluke Chaparro in the 3rd.

Jenks threw a fastball which Reyes took out to right-center field to knot it up at 4.

Next batter Hector HFLR put another Jenks fastball over the center-field wall to give the Rays the lead and after Kelvarr struck out, Sandoval made it a trio of 9th inning homers, blasting a no-doubter to left.

Mike Philsphan pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 10th save.

W: Waddell (1-0) L: Jenks (0-1) S: Philsphan (10)

NOTABLE RAYS PERFORMERS:

M Sandoval 2-4 HR (9)

R Reyes 1-3 HR (6) 3 RBI

H HFLR 1-4 HR (4)

Why should i? I was up and coming once, But it's all faded away with these injuries.

"Ronnie Reyes takes over the starting 2B job, from one aspiring Johnluke Chaparro, Chaparro will be designated for assignment later today".

I hope that NEVER happens, seems like a Wigginton, Ensberg thing. Where Wiggy comes in (Ronnie) and Ensberg goes out (Me) lol

Cintron's walk-off shot denies Rays sweep.

Alex Cintron hit a pinch-hit two-run homer with one out in the 9th off of Rays closer Mike Philsphan to give the White Sox an improbable 6-5 victory and deny the Rays the sweep at US Celullar Field.

The normally reliable Philsphan was called upon after Andrew Wright scored from second on an error in the top of the inning.

The Rays led 4-1 after 7 on the back of solo homers by Chris Kelvarr and Ronnie Reyes, and a two-run blast by Matthew Polites.

Polites left the game with an injured right elbow after sliding hard into 2nd trying to break up a double play in the 9th.

Scott Moore's struggles continued, serving up a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 8th to Joe Crede.

W: Jenks (1-1) L: Philsphan (1-3)

NOTABLE RAYS PERFORMERS:

M Polites 2-4 HR (5) 2 RBIs

A Wright 2-4

M Stedfunk 2-4

C Kelvarr 1-4 HR (8)

R Reyes 1-4 HR (7)

Series Preview Tigers (26-24) @ Rays (26-24)

Matchups:

Game 1: K Rogers (4-2, 5.23) vs A Pridham (4-4, 2.34)

Game 2: J Verlander (5-2, 2.91) vs L Williams (2-3, 3.07)

Game 3: N Robertson (6-2, 3.86) vs M Drogalis (6-3, 2.67)

The Rays are coming off a good series against the Chicago White Sox.

They still own second place, and clawed back 1 game on the Yankees, and sit 8 games out first place.

Winning this series will be a challenge, but it is certaintly not out of reach for the Rays who have displayed consistent hitting and steely resolve under pressure so far this season.

One of the best pitching battles could be waged in Game 3 with both pitchers in the top 5 in the American League in wins.

PLAYER TO WATCH:

R Reyes- Had an amazing series against the White Sox, came up with multiple clutch hits.
