a 2-out RBI double by Lambda Zeta tied the game.

I didn't get credit for a double on the boxscore, was it one of this doubles that the centerfielder bobbles and the computer gives you credit for a hit an an error?

Strong finish propels Rays to victory, series win.

A run in each of the final 4 innings, 3 of which were solo homers have helped the Rays defeat Oakland 4-1 in the finale at McAfee Coliseum.

Michael Sandoval's homer to right-center in the 6th opened the floodgates as the Rays hit homers in the 7th and 8th off the bats of Mickey Stedfunk and Dave Pudge. Another run was added in the 9th when Ronnie Reyes singled home JL Chaparro to make it 4-1.

The A's scored their only run in the 7th when Todd Walker singled home Nick Swisher.

Adam Pridham allowed only 1 run on 8 hits in 6 and 2/3 innings, a solid performance in a low scoring game.

Mike Philsphan, called upon in the 9th, continued to struggle, allowing 2 hits en route to his 6th save.

RAYS APRIL WRAPUP

The Rays end April in a 3 way tie for 2nd place in the AL East, a surprising start for most. They sit a half a game back of the Yankees who have struggled for the most part so far.

Standings at the end of April.

It will be interesting to see if the Rays can continue their solid start in May. With interleague commencing in the middle of the month and some series' against strong AL Central teams it will be a tough road-test for the Rays.

HITTER OF THE MONTH

C Kelvarr .273 5 HR 11 RBI

PITCHER OF THE MONTH

Series Preview Twins (18-8) @ Rays (14-12)

Matchups:

Game 1: R Ortiz (1-0, 2.01) vs L Williams (0-2, 4.45)

Game 2: B Bonser (3-1, 1.63) vs M Drogalis (3-1, 1.59)

Game 3: S Ponson (1-2, 7.29) vs Z Neal (3-2, 1.91)

The Rays start a six game homestand with a 3-game set against the Twins.

The hitters will face a stern test in the first two games as they face off against Ramon Ortiz and Boof Bonser, both of whom have pitched outstandingly this season. They will hopefully get a reprieve against Sidney Ponson and may score plenty of runs for April's best pitcher Zac Neal.

In a lucky break for the Rays, Mike Drogalis has recovered enough from his dislocated finger to make his scheduled start that it was first thought he would miss.

PLAYER TO WATCH:

M Stedfunk: His homer in Game 3 in Oakland could help him get on a hot streak.

Rays take it to the Twins

Lucas Williams finally got the run support he was after, and the Rays dominated in a 6-2 victory over the Twins at Tropicana Field.

After a perfect top of the first by Williams, leadoff catalyst Michael Haylock got the bottom of the inning started the right way, with a double to center. Just as it looked as though the Rays would leave him on, Johnluke Chaparro hit a 2-out, 2-run shot to left for a 2-0 lead. Chaparro would leave the game later, and an MRI revealed a PCL sprain which will sideline him for up to 2 weeks.

Michael Sandoval added to the lead with a solo shot in the 2nd. Dave Pudge hit solo shots in the 4th and 7th innings for his first multi-homer game and a 5-0 Rays lead.

Williams pitched extremely well, throwing 7 and 2/3 innings of shutout ball, allowing just 5 hits.

The Rays scored again in the 8th via Chris Kelvarr's RBI double and the lead was 6-0.

With one out in the 9th, Ben DeCoste was called on to shut it down, but instead loaded the bases, and lefty specialist Jai Waddell surrendered a 2-run single to bloat DeCoste's ERA to 2.19. Michael Johnson came in for the final out.

W: Williams (1-2) L: Ortiz (1-1)

NOTABLE RAYS PERFORMERS:

JL Chaparro 1-2 HR(5)

D Pudge 2-3 2 HRs (7)

M Sandoval 1-4 HR (5)

C Kelvarr 1-4 RBI
