icon_la.gif Kent and Drew, the Dodgers' big two carried them to victory tonight. As the Dodgers had fish for dinner and beat the Marlins 2-1 in the first time they've faced each other this year. Jeff Weaver and Al Lieter were the pitchers of record tonight.

The Marlins were the first to score in tonight's game, as Miguel Cabrera hit a solo jack in the fourth to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead. But, the Dodger's quickly responded in the fifth on a solo homer by Jeff Kent, his fourth on the year. And in the seventh, Jayson Werth drove in J. D. Drew on an error by Juan Pierre.

Total Domination

navarrohomer8yh.pngconinehomer1wz.png

(Above: Navarro hits first homer of the year in the bigs, Right: Conine & the Marlins destroyed the Dodgers tonight.)

icon_la.gif Everyone in the Marlins' lineup (excluding the pitcher) had a hit in tonight's game, including homers by Miguel Cabrera, Mike Lowell, and Jeff Conine. Every Dodger pitcher, three in all, gave up at least two runs toinght. The Marlins just had their numbers tonight - and the Dodgers weren't able to come through.

A couple of plusses came from the game tonight, Dioner Navarro got his first major league hit this year - and it was a two run homer. And Jose Flores, the newly called-up shortstop to replace Cesar Izturis, showed promise as he hit a opposite field douple in his first at-bat and made a couple of good plays in the field.

Injury Report: Jeff Kent was injured during the game breaking up a double play and he will be out for 2 - 3 weeks.

Fish Take Series

drewrobs0pc.pngpierrehomer7jd.png

(Above: Drew robs a Marlin of an extra base hit, Right: Pierre hits homer in the 10th to give the Fish their second straight win.)

icon_la.gif Yet another extra inning loss for the Dodgers. And yet another loss without a single win for top 100 prospect Edwin Jackson. It seems as if the Dodgers were too quick in calling him up from the Las Vegas 51s. But, you can't dwell on the bad - Jackson did have two good innings, sitting the Marlins down in these two innings 1-2-3 both times. But in his third inning of relief he collapsed. Giving up a three run homer to Juan Pierre to give the Marlins a 3-0 lead over the Dodgers in the tenth.

In the tenth, the Dodgers tried to mount a comeback. With Pete Orr leading off the inning with his first major league hit, in his first major league at-bat. Then, he stole second and advanced to third on a ground out to second. And he scored on a throwing error by Damian Easley that put the score to 3-1. But, the next batter hit a line drive to first and Delgado was able to turn a unassited double play.

The Dodgers will now start inter-league play against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim who are 17-22 on the year. Hopefully the Dodgers can better how they played last year in inter-league play, going 10-8.

Another Heart-Breaker

werthrobs1ab.pngerstadtriple7mg.png

(Above: Werth robs homer to keep the game tied. Right: Erstad hits triple to drive in 2 in the 10th.)

icon_la.gif The Dodgers just can't score runs any more. They had bases load twice in tonight's game versus the Angels and they couldn't score one measly run. And the Angels were able to capitalize on that, scoring two runs in the bottom of the tenth off Elmer Dessens to hand the Dodgers their third straight loss (second straight extra inning loss).

Derek Lowe, who started the game, pitched exceptional too. Going nine innings and only allowing six hits and striking out five without giving up a single run. Paul Byrd didn't pitch too shabby himself, going nine innings also, but he only surrendered two hits while he struck out seven.

After the game, first baseman Hee-Seop Choi returned to the starting lineup. "Hopefully his bat can get our team back on track. He was hitting very well right before he was injured, and I have no reason to believe that he won't do just as well now." This came from manager Jim Tracy after Choi announced that he has fully recovered from his injury.

BTW how do you do that Code thing. My box scores are always uneven.

In the reply menu right under the Subject bar, you should see a button that says "Code". You select it and then you write what ever you want to and then you press the "Code" button again. Once you have the code box set-up you need to line up what you want to have in a column. It's mainly trial-&-error but you just preview the message and go from there.

Not Again...

erstadhomer5vl.pngdodgers9bw.png

(Above: Erstad hits two run homer in the 6th to tie the game, Right: The Dodgers are disgusted at their third straight extra inning loss.)

icon_la.gif You, guessed it. The Dodgers had another extra inning game, their third straight! And yet again, they lost it extra innings. They just can't score enough runs anymore, it looked promising in the first as they scored two runs on a RBI double by Hee-Seop Choi in his first game back from his stint on the DL.

But in the sixth, Odalis Perez made one bad pitch and Darren Erstad made him pay for it by hitting a two run job to tie the game at 2-2. And in the 12th inning, J. D. Drew misplayed a line drive by Orlando Cabrera badly allowing Cabrera to circle the bases for an inside-the-park home run to give the Angels a 3-2 lead and win.

This loss increased their losing streak to four games, and they risk being swept by their cross-town rival. "I don't know what's wrong with us. I guess we need to start making some changes in our bullpen. As our starting pitchers are pitching exceptionally well but our bullpen has blown the last few games for us. It's disgusting!" These harsh words are from manager Jim Tracy who seems to be very unpleased with the performance of the Dodger's bullpen.

Five Straight.....Losses

choihomer28yb.pngkrodsave7ll.png

(Above: Choi hits second homer of the year in the 1st, Right: K-Rod records the save as the Angels sweep the Dodgers.)

icon_la.gif Five straight losses and now the Dodgers are below .500 for the first time since May 2nd. And this time they didn't lose because they didn't score any runs, the starting pitching couldn't keep them in the game.

The first inning proved to be big for both clubs. With the Angels scoring two in the first on a two-run homer by Steve Finley. But the Dodgers were quick to respond, with three-run jack by first baseman Hee-Seop Choi who has showed no slowing down after being injured.

But, Orlando Cabrera drove in the run that tied the game up in the sixth on a triple that brought in Benji Molina. And they scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on a RBI single by Finley that gave the Angels the win over the Dodgers 4-3. Now the Dodgers will begin the series with their division rival, the San Fransico Giants.

July 4th, Already?

bondshomer6dm.pngfireworks9zd.png

(Above: Bonds hits one of 4 Giants' homers, Right: It seemed like an early July 4th celebration at SBC Park tonight.)

icon_la.gif Six straight losses - the Dodgers' longest losing streak this year. They didn't even lose with dignity either, as the Giants handed the Dodgers a 5-1 whoopin' and hit four home runs tonight. The four home runs were hit by: Barry Bonds, Moises Alou, Marquis Grissom, and Edgardo Alfonso.

Noah Lowry pitched an excellent game tonight for the Giants. Going seven strond innings, giving up only one run on seven hits, while striking out four. Brad Penny, on the other hand, continued to pitch horribly. Going only 6.1 innings, while giving up three runs (all homers) on nine hits, and only striking out one.

The lone run tonight for the Dodgers was scored by Pete Orr, who hit his first major league homer into McCovey Cove. Orr has showed great promise for the Dodgers this year. In three games for the Dodgers, he's 2-7, with one homer and one stolen base. Not too shabby if you ask me.

When we talked to Jim Tracy after the game, he had this to say, "Once everyone has recovered from their respective injuries, I think that our losing woes will be gone like a bad habit. But, our injured stars won't be back for a while, so I think we're going to have to make some changes around here. Maybe get a quality pitcher, or a younger third baseman, I don't know. But what I do know is, we have to stop losing NOW!"

Seven and Counting...

orrhr8ij.pnggwhomergiants7di.png

(Above: Orr hits his second homer in two games, Right: Grissom hits game-winning homer in the ninth.)

icon_la.gif Well, at least the trade for Pete Orr has been a plus for the Dodgers, it's seems as if he is the only Dodger doing anything good right now. In two games, he's had two home runs - each in a pinch hit situation. And in tonight's game it tied the game up so that the Dodgers would have a little glimpse of hope.

But that little glimpse was quickly shattered as Marquis Grissom hit yet another homer of Dodger pitching, this time to give the Giants a 4-2 win over the, to say the least, struggling Dodgers. The Giants scored their other two runs in the seventh and eighth innings on RBIs by J. T. Snow and Edgardo Alfonso.

Scott Erickson didn't pitch all that bad toinght, but rarely do the Dodgers' starting pitchers ever do bad in their outings. It's been the bullpen that's lost the games for the Dodgers. "That's it! We're going to make CHANGES! I'm fead up with how the bullpen has been pitching, we're going to call up some guys, and we're going to trade for some guys. We're got going to keep this same setup." - Jim Tracy.

*Today's Transactions*

The first action taken by manager Jim Tracy today was calling up Britt Reames from AAA and sending down Edwin Jackson who had been less than mediocre in his snint with the Dodgers. Reames has pitched well in with the Las Vegas 51s, going 4-3 with a 2.42 ERA. Jackson, on the other hand, was 0-3 with a 6.14 ERA.

But this wouldn't be all that Tracy would do today. Desiding that calling up Reames wasn't enough, he desided to make a trade.

Los Angeles Dodgers Received:

ph_132220.jpg

Jarrod Washburn from the Los Angeles Angels of Anahiem. Washburm has pitched ok for the Angels this year, going 3-3 with a 3.78 ERA. "We really needed another left handed pitcher in our starting rotation, and I feel that we've added a very, very good lefty in Washburn."

Los Angeles Angels of Anahiem Received:

ph_207267.jpg

Brad Penny from the Los Angels Dodgers. Penny has pithced well, if you were to look at his ERA - which is at a low 2.61, but his record doesn't relfect that, as he is 2-6 on the year.

Seems like you've hit a rough patch, hopefully these lineup changes will shake things up and give you that spark.

Good luck with that.

What Did You Expect, A Win?

bonds2rhomer3rp.pngtracypissed3az.png

(Above: Bonds hits yet another homer against the Dodgers, Right: Jim Tracy is becoming very discouraged with him team.)

icon_la.gif Another loss by the Dodgers, and yet another series that they've been swept in their eight game losing streak. The Dodgers couldn't even get a runner past first, considering they only had two players reach base, and only one hit tonight. Antonio Perez lead off the game with a single up the middle for the only hit tonight, and J. D. Drew was able to reach on an error by Moises Alou in the eighth.

The only runs that were scored tonight were driven in by slugger Barry Bonds in the sixth with a two-run homer to give the Giants the lead and eventual win 2-0. Jason Schmidt was nearly perfect tonight, going all nine innings while surrendering only one hit and striking out eleven batters.

More bad new came from the Dodgers tonight, as Jayson Werth suffered a bruised ankle and will be out of action for a few days. He will be replaced by Jason Grabowski for the time being. But, there was some good news - Britt Reames pitched two very good innings, only allowing one hit and he struck out one.

(Above: Valentin saves a run with diving stop and throw, Right: Hairston drives in the winning run for the D-Backs in the 16th.)

icon_la.gif Well, at least they hung around for sixteen innings tonight, giving the Diamondbacks pretty good fight. But in the dreadful sixteenth, Scott Hairston drove in pitcher Randy Choate who hit a double with one out in the inning.

The Dodgers had a few chances to score too, they just couldn't capitalize on the opportunities. They had a runner on second base with less than two outs three times tonight, but they couldn't produce in the clutch.

The Dodgers put four pitchers out on the bump tonight, which is pretty good considering not one went longer than six innings. Odalis Perez was only able to last six innings tonight, but he pitched very well - giving up only four hits while striking out four. Britt Reames was the first to releave him, and he continued to impress, going five strong innings, only allowing two hits while he struck out five.
