Unless Joe's gonna suit up and hit .400 with 80 bombs, he's not going to help much :D

Gotta fight the urge to trade off everybody. Definitely going to be an eventful offseason though. But we still got a wild card chase to fight through.

Torre makes major league return as a Giant?

He Might Be Giant

SAN FRANSISCO- Today, former manager Joe Torre today announced that he had been signed by the Giants as a 2nd baseman, as an attempt to save the Giant ballclub. Torre, 67, is in the prime shape and many expect him to play his greatest years in Giant colors. Experts predict a batting average of .027, 2 RBIs, 1 home run (a mistake) and no stolen bases.

Is this what the Giant ballclub needs?

Very possibly. Time will tell if this new acquisition steps up to Giant needs.

The only run of the contest scored when Omar Vizquel flew out to Jeremy Hermida in foul territory. Ortmeier

tagged up on the play and scored standing up.

After Hermida led off the seventh with a single, Johnny Estrada lined out to Kevin Frandsen at second on a

hit-and-run play. Hermida was caught in no-man's land for an easy double play.

Jack Taschner came in with the bases loaded in the eighth inning and faced just one batter, inducing a

groundout from Mike Jacobs to end the inning and the Marlins best chance to score in the contest.

go get those bums! Maybe a sweep of those darn dodgers is all you need ;)

Heh...with the lead they have, we need to win 14 straight against them just to pull within striking distance. Unless a miracle happens, they are coasting into the playoffs. Pains me to say it, but they're just too powerful for our offense to keep up...

Standings?

Full standings, leaders, etc. are due to be posted after the Dodgers series. I do them the first of every month :D

Without looking, I believe the Bums are 15 games up on the Rockies (2nd place) and 17 up on us. They aren't worried about much right now.

How far back in the wildcard are you?

Dos game-o's.

Thanks for checking in guys - depending on what I do for dinner and where I watch the game, I might have the series recap and stats done tonight.

Aurilia Shipped to Boston

SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco Giants have announced that they have come to terms with the

Boston Red Sox for a trade that would send Rich Aurilia to Fenway in exchange for pitcher Manny

Delcarmen. The Giants will also send pitcher Chris Begg. San Francisco will pay the entire remaining

portion of Aurilia's salary. He will be a free agent after this season.

Aurilia, 36, joined the Giants prior to the 2007 season, returning to his former team after spending

time with the Cincinnati Reds. He was a member of the 2002 Giants team that reached the World

Series, eventually falling to the Anaheim Angels. The Red Sox will use him primarily as a bench player

who can play any infield position, although he could see time in a platoon role to give veterans Mike

Lowell, Julio Lugo and Kevin Youkilis a day off every week or so as the season winds down.

Begg, 28, has spent the last five seasons in the Giants organization after having his contract pur-

chased from the St. Paul Saints of the independent Northern League on July 9, 2003. He has pitched

well in the system, but has been continually passed over by homegrown hurlers such as Matt Cain

and Tim Lincecum.

Delcarmen, 26, started the season at Triple-A Pawtucket, striking out 19 batters while walking three

in 22 innings before being called up to Boston. In 10 games with the Red Sox, the right-hander has

punched out 14 and walked just two in 10 and two-thirds innings. The Giants look for him to shore up

a struggling bullpen.

Delcarmen will not be in uniform tonight against the Dodgers, but should arrive later this evening and

will be available tomorrow night.

Giants Notes: Outfielder Randy Walter has been sent down to Triple-A Fresno and Eddy Martinez-

Esteve has been called up. EME will be available to pinch-hit tonight. His first appearance will mark

his major league debut...pitcher Adam Carr has been sent down to Double-A Connecticut and short-

stop Aaron Hornostaj has been promoted to Fresno...pitcher Garrett Broshuis has been promoted

to Fresno.
