"Big V" Promoted to Connecticut

SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco Giants promoted 17-year old prospect Angel Villalona to Double-A

Connecticut today from their Single-A San Jose club.

Villalona joined San Jose earlier this season out of extended spring training and performed well, hit-

ting .294 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI. He was moved from third base to first about a little over a

month ago, and raised his average over 20 points since making the transition.

Angel was signed by the Giants out of the Domincan Republic in 2006 and was given a $2.1 million

signing bonus. The right-handed slugger is by far the biggest position prospect to come out of the San

Francisco system in over 10 years, and is considered by many to be one of the top prospects in base-

ball. He is often compared to Miguel Cabrera and Adrian Beltre.

The young slugger will turn 18 on August 13.

Yankees standings actually kind of accurate to the '07 season...

It's good to see TB still hanging in there. Should be fun to see how that all plays out.

Bonds is probably going to the Angels or some big money AL team.

If you mean in this dynasty, he's a Cub and the trade deadline is over. So he's gonna be one until the season ends. Outside of this dynasty, no telling. We'll see what happens.

So... When Does the BIG V get his first start???? :) Great Job, still my favorite dynasty to follow by far!

Not soon enough if you're a Giants fan :D

At the very earliest, Villalona could push his way to San Francisco next season. Right now, we're going to see how he does in Connecticut, which is probably where he'll finish the season. Definitely the type of talent that could make a huge impact, but at 17 (soon to be 18), we don't want to overwhelm him too soon.

Glad you're still enjoying it sport - thanks for the compliments. And thanks to all three of you for checking in. :D

Three solo home runs down San Francisco

struck out three and walked one in his two innings of work.

zamhq8.jpg

Victor Zambrano was stellar in relief of Maholm, allowing just two hits over five scoreless innings of relief.

The night wasn't perfect for the right-hander, however, as he took a Pat Misch slider to the leg in the fifth

inning.

baywu8.jpg

Jason Bay hit the last of three Pirate solo home runs off Misch in the sixth inning, giving Pittsburgh a 3-0

lead.

With the tying run on first, Dan Ortmeier chased a breaking ball from Pirates closer Brad Lincoln to end the

game.

Late Error Buries Giants, 4-3

Bucs capitalize on rare miscue by Vizquel

gamefinalio2.jpg

cainrg9.jpg

Matt Cain left the game after seven innings with a 3-2 advantage, but settled for a no decision in the con-

test.

davisvk5.jpg

Rajai Davis went off against his former team, finishing the game four-for-five with three stolen bases. He

was caught stealing third in the seventh as part of a botched hit-and-run attempt.

molinafn3.jpg

Bengie Molina blasted a solo home run in the third inning to give the Giants a 3-0 lead. It was his second

of two RBI on the night.

duffyrb3.jpg

Chris Duffy led off the eighth with a solo home run off Jack Taschner, tying the game at three and prevent-

ing Cain from securing a victory.

delcarmengr3.jpg

Manny Delcarmen suffered his first loss as a Giant, surrendering a game-winning single to pinch-hitter Carl

Everett in the ninth. Delcarmen has yet to allow an earned run as a Giant, as McCutchen reached safely on

a two-out error by Omar Vizquel and then stole second to get into position to score on Everett's base hit.

Until McCutchen scored, all Pirates runs thus far in this series had come on solo home runs.

Scoring

T1: Molina single scores Davis

B8: Duffy solo HR

correiaij3.jpg

Kevin Correia, who recently moved to the bullpen after spending most of the season in the rotation, pitch-

ed two solid innings of relief, allowing just two hits while striking out two.

snellwd4.jpg

Ian Snell took a line drive from Bengie Molina off his arm in the ninth inning, but stayed in to finish off his

second complete game and first shutout of the season.

giantsjd0.jpg

The San Francisco Giants hope to use tomorrow's off-day to regroup as they head home for seven games
