Oy, that's gotta hurt.

Man, it was ridiculous. There were a couple of hard hit balls, but mainly just weak groundouts and flyballs. And he's not an overpowering pitcher. Our timing was just off all game.

First time I've ever been no-hit in any game. And I've never thrown one. So I'm down 0-1 now.

We gotta start getting this thing on track.

The Giants hoped to return home refreshed after an offday following a sweep in a three-game set by the

Pittsburgh Pirates; but instead dropped their fourth consecutive game and were no-hit by Jo-Jo Reyes. San

Francisco has been shutout in two straight games.

Reyes struck out nine and walked four in his no-hit performance.

The only close call came in the fifth inning when Mark Grudzielanek dropped a line drive from Omar Vizquel,

allowing him to reach safely. The play was ruled an error.

schiercq6.jpg

Nate Schierholtz walked in each of his three plate appearances, finishing the contest without a single off-

icial at bat.

Velez Sent to Fresno

SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco Giants sent second baseman Eugenio Velez down to its Triple-A

affiliate, the Fresno Grizzlies, today in an effort to get the 26-year old more playing time in preparation

for next season.

Velez has been in San Francisco all season, serving as a backup to second baseman Kevin Frandsen

and shortstop Omar Vizquel. He has seen limited action thus far, but general manager Brian Sabean

hopes to see more of him next season:

"He's shown a lot of promise, but we don't have the opportunity to give him more looks at this time,"

said Sabean on KNBR earlier this morning. "He probably isn't going to post many home runs, but he

has shown the ability to hit the gaps and get on base. And his speed is electrifying. He just needs

some fine tuning. We look for him to play the remainder of the season in Fresno, and hopefully in the

AFL (Arizona Fall League) this offseason. Then we'll take it from there."

Velez will likely battle 2006 draft pick Emmanuel Burris in spring training next season for the chance to

break into the Giants infield in 2009, as Vizquel has hinted at retirement. There is speculation that

Frandsen could move to short next season as both Velez and Burris seem to be a better fit at second.

William Bergolla has been called up to replace Velez. He will be available to pinch-hit tonight.

Foppert Solid as Giants Snap Skid

Offensive scoreless streak ends in third inning

gamefinalix0.jpg

vizsi7.jpg

Omar Viquel collected the first basehit for San Francisco in 11 innings when he singled in the third inning.

He later scored on a single by Randy Winn, posting the Giants first run in 26 innings of baseball. Their last

run came in the third inning of the August 9 game in Pittsburgh.

schxi8.jpg

Nate Schierholtz hit a rocket over the right field wall in the fourth inning, barely getting halfway to first be-

fore the wall was cleared. The home run gave the Giants a 2-1 lead, a mark that would stand as the final

score.

woodpq8.jpg

While Brandon Wood has struggled with his average in his rookie campaign, his defense has been stellar

as shown on this double play ball by Mark Grudzielanek in the fifth inning. Wood is a serious contender for

the gold glove this season.

lerewgh1.jpg

Anthony Lerew punched out 11 tonight, but took the loss after allowing two runs on six hits over seven

innings of work.

fopzd4.jpg

Jesse Foppert improved to 2-0 as a starter this season, allowing just one run on four hits over seven and

two-thirds innings. He has allowed just three runs on 10 hits over 14 and one-thirds innings in his two

starts this season.

They've had some injury problems this season. Teixeira suffered a season-ending injury in ST. Chuck James is out for the season. Chipper Jones is on the DL with a concussion and might return soon, depending on what the doctors decide in the next week or so.

With all the lineup shuffling, they haven't been able to get everyone on the same page.

Wilson picks up his 30th save of the season

Edgar Renteria lined out to first baseman Dan Ortmeier in the fifth inning, catching John Smotlz in no-man's

land off of first base for an easy double play.

Rajai Davis reached safely in the sixth inning on a throwing error by third baseman Martin Prado, and even-

tually scored the first run of the contest on a single by Brandon Wood.

mischri5.jpg

Pat Misch threw seven shutout innings for the Giants today, improving to 12-7 with the victory.

Brian Wilson became the first Giants closer since Tim Worrell in 2003 to save at least 30 games in a sea-

son with his save this afternoon. A Giants pitcher has saved at least 30 games in a season just 11 times

in the history of the franchise, with 48 saves by Rod Beck in 1993 the franchise record.
