Nine-Run Eighth Propels Giants to Blowout Victory

Davis, Frandsen fall just short of cycles

april11he5.jpg

Rajai Davis got a rare start tonight and made the most of it against his former team as the speedy

outfielder fell a home run short of the cycle in San Francisco's 13-3 beating of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Davis went three-for-five in the contest. Teammate Kevin Frandsen flirted with a cycle of his own, also

going three-for-five while driving in four runs as he came up a triple short. His grand slam in the eighth

capped off the nine-run frame. Every Giants position player got a hit in the game.

Lost in the offensive outburst was a solid performance by rookie Pat Misch. The left-hander held the

Pirates to two runs on just five hits in eight innings, striking out 10 while walking none. He improved

to 2-0 on the season.

hits. Duke lasted seven and one-thirds innings, allowing just five hits while striking out four and walk-

Aurilia Singles Giants to Series Win in 10th

Wilson blows second save of the season

april13xt2.jpg

Brian Wilson blew his second save of the season tonight, but Rich Aurilia picked him up with a pinch-hit,

game-winning single to give the Giants the game and the series.

The Giants entered the ninth with a 2-1 lead after Randy Winn singled in Brandon Wood in the bottom

of the eighth. But Wilson couldn't shut the door, surrendering an RBI double to Jack Wilson to tie the

game at two.

Yoslan Herrera quickly got two outs in the bottom of the ninth before surrendering singles to Brandon

Wood and Randy Winn. Aurilia then pinch-hit for Wilson, who had moved into the sixth spot in the line-

up with a double switch earlier in the game. Aurilia singled to left, bringing home Wood and giving the

Giants the game and the series.

Wilson Rebounds with Four-Out Save in 4-3 Giants Win

Rookie Misch improves to 3-0 on the season

april15hp6.jpg

When it came down to it, Giants manager Bruce Bochy could have held Brian Wilson out of tonight's

contest, citing Wilson's appearance in three straight games - instead of his blown saves in two con-

secutive games. However, Bochy went to Wilson after the closer's insistence that he was ready to go

for a fourth straight night.

"My faith in him is as strong as it was in game one," said Bochy after the game. "I talked with both

him and the trainers before the game, and both parties indicated that he was 100%. So, naturally, I

went with my closer in a save situation."

Wilson didn't disappoint, allowing two baserunners over one and one-thirds shutout innings to pre-

serve the win for rooke Pat Misch. Misch allowed just two runs, one earned, on five hits in seven and

one-thirds innings while punching out six. His ERA this season fell to just 1.27.

After the game, Bochy hinted that Wilson will not be available for tomorrow's game in St. Louis. Matt

Cain is scheduled to start for San Francisco.

Cain Holds 'Birds to Five Hits in Shutout Victory

Vizquel drives in two in support of Giants ace

april16pg3.jpg

Fives were wild for Matt Cain tonight as he allowed five hits while striking out five and walking five;

but the right-hander put up a zero where it mattered as he threw a complete game shutout in the

Giants 4-0 victory.

The Giants gave Cain all the support he needed in the second inning, scoring four times to knock

Cardinals starter Mike Maroth out of the game with just two outs in the frame. A two-RBI single from

Omar Vizquel capped off the scoring.

Cain added a hit in his performance, going one-for-four on the night. The loss was the first for Maroth

this season.

Aurilia Comes Through Again in 7-6 Giants Win

Wilson picks up fifth save of the season

april17lb8.jpg

In a game that started out as a pitcher's duel and ended with an offensive explosion, it was veteran

Rich Aurilia's solo home run that proved too much for the St. Louis Cardinals as the San Francisco

Giants earned a sweep in the short two-game set, 7-6.

Barry Zito and Chris Carpenter battled for six innings before combining to give up five runs in the

seventh. The Giants got two to take a 3-2 lead before Josh Bard and Albert Pujols went back-to-back

to retake the lead, 6-3.

The Giants added three more in the eighth before Aurilia homered off Kip Wells in the ninth, his second

game-winning hit in as many pinch-hit appearances.

Two Cardinals reached off Brian Wilson in the bottom of the ninth on a walk and an error by Dan

Ortmeier, but Wilson induced a popout from Pujols and a groundout from Chris Duncan to end the

threat and secure his fifth save of the season.

april19hg1.jpg

Pat Misch and Max Scherzer faced off today in a battle of unbeaten rookies, but it was Misch who came

Twins Brass Confirms Santana Rumors

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Minnesota Twins front office has confirmed that they are listening to offers regarding ace pitcher Johan Santana.

Santana, 29, won his third Cy Young Award, second consecutive, last season and will be a free agent in the offseason. After the contract given to Barry Zito by the San Francisco Giants in 2006 (7 years at $126 million), it is assumed that Santana could become the first $200 million pitcher in baseball history.

The Dodgers, Mets and Red Sox seem to be the front runners in both money and tradeable talent; the Yankees have shown interest, but coming up with the valuable trade pieces could be tough.

Lincecum Set to Return Versus Dodgers

SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco Giants have confirmed that Tim Lincecum is scheduled to start

against the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight, his first start since leaving the game on April 7, his second

start of the season.

An MRI following that contest determined that Lincecum had developed inflammation in his right elbow,

better news than most in the organization expected. Manager Bruce Bochy touched on the subject

earlier today on his weekly radio interview:

"Tim will start tonight, but we're going to watch him carefully. Probably around 80-90 pitches. There's

no sign of inflammation anymore, but he's young and the season's young; no need to push either one."

First pitch for tonight's game is scheduled for 7:10 PT.
