Recommended Posts

I sent llcmac an email, he and I plan on working on some CAPs tomorrow, so expect an update Tuesday. Tonight I worked on all the suggestions made on this thread so far. If we post an update and the changes arent the way you like them, sorry, but its what I or llcmac decided. To new fans who are posting questions, PLEASE read through the whole thread--you'll notice quite a few repeats on questions and suggestions. Example: I've said a few times what our plans are and when we hope to release what. Wondering when we'll have minors? Read what I've already posted. Creating CAPs shouldn't be easy work, unless you want a bunch of crappy guys with the same looks and same ratings, so we're not going to create 2000 players (yes, to create a REAL minor league system for all 30 teams we'd be making around 2000 players) in a week. Or a month. Especially when we're still finding out players who are missing (like Dean Palmer, I thought he was way retired). All in all, the next update may not look impressive, but many things will have been tweaked and added.

Just to make this post way way long, (print it out and take it to the can, great bathroom reading!) I'm pasting the list of players I found missing between checking the ESPN rosters (they list like 30-35 players per team, not the full 40 man rosters) and comparing with MVP. And here's who I found missing and thus, llcmac and I are working on making these guys first...

My goal for the update after next is to have all of these players made. Then, I plan on simming about 5 seasons and really studying the stats it produces. I will then tweak ratings as I feel necessary, and then llcmac and I will more than likely leave the ratings alone for the rest of this project.

I second dkrause's comment. If the Giants had even a decent farm system I'd be all over suggestions and corrections on the minors. But our system might be the worst in the league and have no enthusiasm on researching our "draft duds.". (Except maybe Matt Cain, big maybe)

can't wait for 3.3

Some info on the Mets:

Your Starting 8 is just fine, I know your not into tinkering with the batting order yet, well, we dont really know what it will be either, so its fine.

IF backups will be Miguel Cairo (for 2B/3B), Andres Gallaraga (1B) and Chris Woodward (SS - formerly of Tornto, here's his page on mlb.com -> http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player....layer_id=218595

Jason Phillips should be the Backup C (he is no longer intended to play 1B on any kind of regular basis.

The OF backups will probably be Eric Valent and Victor Diaz.

Guys that should be on the Mets AAA team (IMO) are Ron Calloway (OF -formerly of Montreal/Washington), Kerry Robinson (OF -formerly of St. Louis), Gerald Williams (OF), Marlon Anderson (IF/OF), Danny Garcia (2B)

Now for pitching:

Steve Trachsel should be #5 in the rotaion with Zambrano #4.

The Pen will be (most liekly) Braden Looper (Closer), Mike Dejean (SU), Dae-Jonk Koo, Scott Strickland, Felix Heredia and Jae-Wong Seo (as the Long Relief)

Pitchers that should be on AAA, Bartulo Fortunato, MAtt Ginter, Roberto Hernandez.

Those are all the guys I can think of right now.

Also, the 2 Met entires in the Top 100 prospects are:

CF B. Tyner = Lastings Milledge

SP T. Tucker = Yusmeiro Petit

I hope the information is appreciated.

Hi, I sent the completed Anaheim rosters to billfitch@gmail.com over the weekend. Bootcheck, Nieves, and Mosely were included in those files. Only thing that definitely needs to be doublechecked in the files I sent are for the hitters, the "Homerun Percentage" field, which is "0" for most. Not sure if that has an effect on actual home runs hit...

i love the time you guys are putting in. great stuff. i love, like the rest of you, to mull over a sports page full of box scores. but as my posts suggest, i am also interested in the parts of the game "outside the numbers". i watch so many games and appreciate the subtleties. here are my suggestions to the top players in some categories not measured by numbers.

i haven't watched a royals game in years, but Brian Andrson was voted the best pickoff move by a coaches poll (given by Baseball America, who supllied EA with the player rankings). Here are some adjusted rating suggestions.

Pickoffs

B. Anderson____99

A. Pettitte______95

K. Rogers______95

T. Mulholland____95

Righties

J. Fogg____90

A. Osuna___90

R. Franklin___90

EA has J. Contreras as a 99. please... (maybe 75)

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1977698

Bunting

J. Castillo___95 (just below Pierre and Ichiro)

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=1964657

Baserunning ability

Jeter____99

R. Alomar____99

L. Walker____99

O. Vizquel ___95

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=1969362

Best Control Pitchers: Radke, Wells, Maddux and Lieber?

J. Lieber deserves better control numbers

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=1969362

Throwing strength (outfielders)

J. Guillen__95

R. Hildago___95

B. Abreu___95

T. Hunter___90

J. Edmonds___90

R. Mondesi___90

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1983180

A. Rios (nicknamed Vlad II)___95

Throwing strength (infielders)

Rolen___99 (he was voted a virtual tie with Furcal)

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=1988383

remember there are many player characteristics not based on numbers. Some of those proposed by EA programmers i buy, some i don't. the good thing about this game is you don't have to buy the whole batch (as some would want you to believe).

This is a call to all who want to help us fix some holes...Every day I'm finding players who are still playing and projected to be in the Majors or AAA around opening day and are not in MVP 2005 but ARE in MVP 2004. After we release the next update, we'd really appreciate it if you could help post players who fit that criteria as well as a link or something showing me that he is signed through this year.

Right now, if anyone has a solid CAP or a link for Chris Truby and Dean Palmer, PLEASE PLEASE send!

Thanks!

I guess I wanted to see if anyone had a CAP already made for either...I know Truby had a few CAPs posted online for MVP 2004, so there should be some floating around. Not sure if Palmer had any made last year though. Basically I just want to be stingy about their info/ratings since they have major league experience. Creating prospects isn't an exact science, they havent had much (if any experience) so rating them is kind of a crapshoot. But players like Truby and Palmer HAVE faced ML pitching and such.

For those of you getting antsy about an update, here's a teaser of the stuff I've done since the last update. (This does NOT include what llcmac has done for this update, and is NOT the official readme of the next update, just a preview)

IMPORTED FROM 2004

Jimmy Journall (Cards)

Mark Guthrie (DRays)

Danny Klassen (Cubs)

George Lombard (Red Sox)

Chris Singleton (DRays)

Kevin Tovar (DBacks)

Albie Lopez (Pirates)

Pablo Ozuna (White Sox)

Donaldo Mendez (Giants)

Matt Kinney (Giants)

PLAYER MOVEMENT

Valerio de los Santos, Vic Darensbourg, Lou Collier and Randall Simon are now free agents.

Sandy Martinez to the Tigers

Ricky Gutierrez to the Mariners

Aaron Small to the Yankees

C.J. Nitkowski to the Twins

Shawn Wooten to the Red Sox

Tony Alvarez to the White Sox

CREATED PLAYERS

Robinson Cano (Yankees)

John Koronka, Renyel Pinto, Will Ohman and Mike Fontenot (Cubs)

Yamid Haad, Jamie Athas and Frew Lewis (Giants)

EDITING

Lots of player tweaking (ratings, appearances)…Too many to mention

John Franco’s face changed to generic. This should fix any issues with crashing games.

Chris Singleton’s face changed to generic to prevent any Franco-like crashes.

I also began tweaking players' salaries when I noticed something...ALL salaries are incorrect. Now I dont know if some players are way outta whack (I heard someone mention that Ray King's was way low), but in general, every player is making $200,000 per year more than they really are. Example, if a player is making 4 million over 4 years, his salary in the game (when converted with MVPEdit) will be $4,800,000. So I stopped editing salaries, heh.
